2023 represents the Super Shemitah in the Hebrew tradition which is the Jubilee or 50th year after 7 X 7 Shemitah consecutive celebrations. The last Super Shemitah was defined by the 1973 Oil Crisis that rocked the whole world. As follows:
In October 1973, the members of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC), led by King Faisal of Saudi Arabia, proclaimed an oil embargo targeted at nations that had supported Israel during the Yom Kippur War. Both the Great Recession of 2008 and Stock Market Crash of 2001 fall into this timing pattern as does Black Monday of 1987 which saw the steepest one-day stock market decline in history.
Black Monday (also known as Black Tuesday in some parts of the world due to timezone differences) was the global, severe and largely unexpected stock market crash on Monday, October 19, 1987. Worldwide losses were estimated at US$1.71 trillion. The severity of the crash sparked fears of extended economic instability or even a reprise of the Great Depression.
Of course, the repeated stock market crashes during the Fall of 2008 began with the controlled demolition of Lehman Brothers on Monday, September 15, 2008. Those crashes continued for 45 straight days until the markets worldwide was brought to a standstill.

I think Jesus Christ makes it quite clear that The Great Tribulation spoken of in the Olivet Discourse will happen to that generation of Judeans and Pharisees who rejected him and murdered him. He outright says that in the preceding chapter (Matthew 23:29-39):
29 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
30 And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
31 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.
32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.

Christ quite explicitly states this generation shall not pass from the earth till it occurs: “Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled” (Matthew 24:34 KJV).
The word generation appears 30 times in the Gospels, once in relation to Jesus, the other 27 times as a direct reference to the faithless, adulterous, wicked, evil, childish, sinful, perverse, and viperous generation of Pharisees and Judeans who rejected their Messiah in the flesh (these are all descriptions John the Baptist or Jesus Christ use in conversation with or about the Pharisees).
Luke 11:50-51 quite explicitly states that this generation will be judged for the shedding of the blood of ALL the prophets, of which Jesus Christ was the culmination.
They then go on to take His blood upon them as a fulfillment of this prophecy: “Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.” (Matthew 27:25 KJV).

When the sun goes dark, it’s not coming back. There will be no need of it’s light. If the sun is still shining, something else happened in 70 AD.

The most likely scenario may be the third interpretation that connects the generation Jesus has in mind with those experiencing the signs of the end of the age.

Could be:
“Truly I say, to you~THIS generation will not pass away, until all these things take place. “
THIS GENERATION, means just that, this generation, PRESENT TENSE. Had he been referring to a future generation, he would have said THAT generation. It makes absolutely no sense for him to tell his apostles that the Kingdom was AT HAND, and then send them to announce its arrival, if it were to be an event thousands of years in the future. He even told them that some of them would STILL BE ALIVE TO SEE IT! Only someone who’s not interested in the truth would want to give it a different interpretation.
