ARE YOU PREPARED?

I’ve had an unsettled feeling about what is going on in this country and around the world for the last month. More unsettled than normal. I know that is what has spurred me to write multiple short articles over the last couple weeks as my outlet for dealing with my increasing feeling of dread. But I’ve also begun to take some action steps to be better prepared for whatever is coming.

I’m not a true doomstead prepper. I would say I’m more prepped than the average person, less prepped than many of the people who read TBP, and certainly not prepped enough to survive what could be headed our way. During the time frame from 2009 through 2012 I bought a significant amount of equipment, firearms, and food for what I thought was an imminent SHTF moment coming our way. As usual, my timing was off by a mile. But still, the supplies are in my storage area, awaiting the day that will come.

My location isn’t ideal, but it isn’t terrible. It is basically a suburban community nestled among numerous farms, far from any urban ghetto shithole. Most of my neighborhood is occupied by liberals, Karens, and vaccine supporters. I know of three or four neighbors who I could count on as support, if things go sideways. Two of them are engineers who have skills I do not have. I would trust them in a crisis situation.

I had a backup natural gas generator installed a couple years ago, which came in handy a few weeks ago when a transformer blew up the road. Over the last few weeks I’ve been methodically taking small steps to get better prepared. I’ve been withdrawing cash from my credit union. My old propane grill has rusted away and ignition has been iffy for a while. I bought a new one last week. In the near future, I’ll be getting rid of our 13 year old Honda Insight with 250,000 miles and replacing it with a used Honda HRV with under 40,000 miles. Converting fiat into useful things seems like a good idea at this point.

Yesterday we bought a new firearm and ammo. What a fascinating process. It is pretty clear to me that all gun dealer employees and their customers are of the same mindset as TBPers. We got to know the gentleman helping us select the gun pretty well because the god foresaken state of PA makes it as difficult as possible to legally purchase a firearm. After filling out pages of paperwork and answering questions online, it took the state drones about an hour and half to approve the purchase, even though I’ve never had anything more than a speeding ticket in my entire life.

Not only did the guy selling us the gun have to triple check the paperwork, he had to get the owner’s wife to double check all of his work. I asked why they had to go through such a tedious process. They said the ATF is crawling up their butts and will shut them down in a split second if any paperwork is slightly off. He said they have been harassing every gun dealer in Bucks and Montgomery County with surprise audits, trying to put them out of business. So, Philly and every other urban shithole is experiencing massive gun violence from illegal guns used by black men, but the ATF harasses legal gun shops selling legal guns to white people for protection. This is how it rolls in Biden’s America.

I’m a little more prepared than I was a month ago, but surely not enough. Let’s open this up to everyone as a learning exercise. What preparations have you taken and what do you recommend? Especially for those not able to move to a totally rural homestead. My backup plan is to fuel up and make the seven hour trek to Hardscrabble’s Farm and learning to chop the heads off chickens.

It looks like you got your prepping advice from the Internet. Which is roughly as good an idea as getting medical advice from the Internet. In other words, if you don’t know already a fair bit, the advice you are going to find is bad and even potentially deadly. That’s how the Internet works: gives more to those that already have, takes away from those that don’t have much. In other words, pretty much like your average bank.

You should prep according to needs, not according to what’s fashionable: Water, warmth/cooling and food come first. Is your water supply safe? How well insulated is your home? If there is a power cut during bad weather, how would you cope? In terms of food, some stored food is good but even better is finding out if there is a local farmer’s market and strike a relationship with some farmers. There could be things they need that you could provide, and then if there are shortages of food, guess who is going to have preferential treatment.

Then safety, based on the principle that not being in a dangerous place is the safest, and the second safest is not attracting any undesirable attention and having decent protection (such as, what are your windows like? Not much good having a firearm if somebody can shoot you through the window easily while you aren’t paying attention), and only third having some weapon ready, ideally one that you can easily carry with you and nobody is going to argue it wasn’t self-defence. Because you know, the military industrial complex makes a lot more money selling you firearms than it does selling you far more useful ex-army supplies. Just saying. But I get it, you are American. There’s no saving you from yourselves. You’re going out in a blaze of glory.

It actually looks like that you are the one who has no idea or experience on how things work in this world and you probably read a few things here and there from people in the Google generation.
In regards to “finding out if there is a local farmer’s market and strike a relationship with some farmers. There could be things they need that you could provide, and then if there are shortages of food, guess who is going to have preferential treatment,” try finding a farm stand, when SHTF. Try getting “preferential treatment,” when SHTF. Try even having a farm, after SHTF!
Sorry, I don’t mean to be rude or mean, but it appears to me you have some growing up to do…

But, by not being totally specific and clear, Paul Walz, opened himself up to a funny interpretation and response.
I’d respectfully suggest we all lighten up a little bit and have a good laugh, including Paul Walz. People may just be kidding around a little bit. These current times are already, in many ways, quite difficult to many of us, especially with all those cuckoos governing our world. 😱

I live on the third story of an apartment in a very, very small town surrounded by desert. I don’t see riots occurring here at all.

Still, I have only one window which would be extremely difficult to enter, and one door. In a SHTF scenario, I can set up my place so that I will see anyone who enters the door before they see me. I won’t talk about my weapons and body armor.

Of course I have food and water stocked up. This is all that I have been able to afford to do.

On top of what little I have prepared, I must remember one thing.

Psalms 20:7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.
8 They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright.
9 Save, Lord: let the king hear us when we call.

Psalms 44:6 For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.
7 But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us.
8 In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.

Psalm 147:10 He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man.
11 The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.

THE most important thing when SHTF is clean water.
Bad water and bad sanitation will kill almost everybody in a few months.
The next is a good shelter especially in a cold climate. So get a high quality
water filter and a very good tent and sleeping bag. You can last about a month
without food. An auto loading rifle and plenty of ammo will allow you
to keep your water filter and tent, and you can eat the animals that try to take any of those from you.

I never miss reading TBP. I’m sure you will get tons of advice on prepping. I’ve been a prepper for most of my 80 years but not a wacko or advice troll. I live off-grid on a mountain surrounded by national forest. You don’t. Many preppers don’t realize that folks like you can’t just grab a go-bag and live with mosquitoes in the woods. As you know the chaos from Ukraine and Israel is the fuse that will spread fire and never be extinguished. Yes, you should relocate if you can. If not just keep trading inflated cash for useful commodities like guns, ammo, food, water, tools, power equipment, etc. Replace natural gas with propane if possible since it will be shut off early in a crisis. Good luck and keep writing your excellent platform and don’t be home when they knock on your door someday.

Going 7 hours may take all week when SHTF! Your head has to be on a swivel and ears/eyes wide open, finding ways to blend in with your terrain, so clothes that blend, boots that are waterproof with a must have extra pair of socks, wool may be better as it tends to keep moisture out if I am not mistaken. Ways to cook food in the wilderness without smoke showing, a way to light that fire, especially in rain or if gotten wet/moisture wet. Finding a very old yet running vehicle that does not require computers (EMP will take out) and runs on carburetors with a way to drain fuel out of non-running vehicles (books on end of days, even though fiction, do give many ideas of what the scenarios may look like and what the characters did to survive).

Old Boy Scout knowledge: two pairs of socks inside waterproof hiking boots, the inner ones are COTTON to wick moisture away from the skin while the outer ones are WOOL to insulate against the cold. You can make a tent out of black plastic sheeting from the Home Depot that will hold you (with a down sleeping bag) to -10 or -20 F. Be able to make a fire small enough to have minimal light / smoke while still enough to heat water for dehydrated food / coffee. If you can’t do it today, practice until you can. And realize that it’s always better to be on defense than offense – can you reinforce / defend your house? If not, figure out where to make a stand that YOU can walk out of when it’s over, across the bodies of those foolish enough to attach a fortified position.

What’s to learn? Grab chicken. Hold chicken over stump by the head, neck stetched. Use other hand to drop the axe/hatchet. You can put chicken in a barrel or a box while it runs around for a while. It can’t see where it’s going, so it will not find its way out…

Way, way too complex with the chicken … my paternal grandparents were farmers … grandma used to go out to one of the chicken coops when family was around to get food for the clan … she’d grab one in each hand, vigorously shake in a circular motion … presto-bingo, chickens with broken necks.

Then all of us cousins had to remove the feathers …

We were in Ollie’s the other day and they had a close out on a Coleman one burner propane stove. Very simple to use and only requires a small propane canister. These are the kinds of practical items we look for and even buy extra for future bartering. Years ago I bought literally gallons of Tupelo honey and have it stored. It’s low glycemic and lasts forever… just another bartering tool. Think out of the box and stack stuff to the ceiling!

Everyone, don’t forget to prefilter those precocious gravity water filters with some sort of cloth like a towel, shirt, whatever will keep sediment out of that good Big Berkey water filter or equivalent like Alexapure. You may even want to do that twice first. Having a water filter that clogs with sediment quickly (and it will) turns into a problem.

With 15+ millions of illegals with nothing, the farms will be ravished and homes overtaken for food etc. By calculations, the Rapture is in 5 to 6 years. Daniel 12:12 – day 1335 from the 1st trumpet. Jesus said people won’t know the day. He did not say you can’t know the day. So say 6 years. Equals 2190 gallons of water/. Bury septic tanks. 1 for food.

If you leave now, how will God be glorified by that? I’m waiting for the chance to be beheaded for my Testimony. And that’ll work out, since there is no pre-trib rapture. Jesus tells you when it happens in relation to events, right there in Matthew 24. We have 2,000 years worth of Martyrs behind us, many of whom have died deaths as bad or worse than Jesus Himself. Why are you more “worthy” of escape from suffering than any of them? Just something to consider, sister. Then get into Proverbs, where you will find the wisdom to prep a little while you still can, and perhaps turn away from teachers that scratch your itching ears. The Truth is often hard to bear.

Many thanks for your insightful articles. They are very much appreciated!

I agree with the anonymous comment of the necessity of the gravity water filter.
Highly recommended are the Berkey filter systems. They are quite pricey but worth every penny.
You can safely filter river or pond water to obtain water that is potable.

Also essential are ways to make fire. Anything from simple BBQ lighters to ferro rods would be useful.
I don’t think one could store too many of these.

Two words: Faraday Cage
If an EMP were to be used, everything with an electrical circuit will be fried. My prep is to protect my 3600w solar generator in a faraday cage; also a couple of appliances and electronics (what good is a generator if all appliance circuits are fried?) I used my fiat money to buy a few solar generators and the extra appliances (microwave oven, air fryer toaster oven and conduction hot plate, flash lights) I even bought an extra freezer that I left in the box and double wrapped it with aluminum foil and sealed with aluminum tape – hoping this will protect it. Worth a try. Research how to make your own faraday cage.

THE WORDS OF JESUS ARE VERY APPROPRIATE AT THIS MOMENT IN TIME. Space does not allow the full scripture, but here is the significant verse:
“For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him, they will ask more.”
The complete reading is found in LUKE 12 v. 32 – 53.
May the LORD GOD Himself bless and strengthen those who are willing to commit themselves, as did Jesus.

if this guy knows you plan, do you have supplies there already ? and do you have 2-5 different ways/routes to get there ? how about comms ? any way you can contact him besides the phone/email ?
di you have fuel dumps along the routes ?
have you made plans as what you going to do to help out there besides killing his chickens ?
like maybe get a good sized propane tank installed there now with a backup generator ?
do you have clothing there that fits everyone in your group at his place ?
how about food supplies and pet food ?
find a old survey map of the area, find out different routes to get there. old rail lines ?
hiking trails ? power lines ? anything besides the main roads will be safer when things go south.
how quiet is your ride ? one thing about those E-bikes is that they are very quiet.
that is a good thing when things go south. sneaking around bad people would be a good idea instead of fighting them to get by. unless you planning on leaving all of the stuff you have now at the old place, you might want to start shifting some gear/stuff now before things get bad.
so, get some hard copies of maps of the area you at and where you want to go to. and any in between.
plan your routes now. away from people if you can. back roads, power lines, old rail lines/tracks, whatever.
have a good compass or 3 ? you going to want them.
above all. think about it now so you have some sort of a plan to get there besides the main road.

My parents went through the depression in the 30’s. Both came from farming families. Although they have passed on, I am drawing on what I learned from them growing up. I have a small house with a decent size yard with an apple tree, peach tree, grapes, and 5 kinds of berries. I grow a big garden, can a lot of it, and trade with my neighbors. I live I a very red area of a very blue state. We know dairy farmers, goat farmers, and we raise chickens. We trade eggs and produce for elk roasts and bison that neighbors hunt. Most of all — we look out for each other and help each other.

Yes. I’m living with my mother now, and she has spent the last 50 years prepping here since she moved here in 1972 – in the most important ways.

She lives in a nearly 100% White community of just over 3,000. Many of her neighbors have been her neighbors since 1972, and all have sightlines of her house. She has done favors and has built up such credit through her good works, generous donations, and favors that her credit in the community is better than gold. Everywhere you go people know my mother and what she has done.

We have two grandfather clocks in the house, which require no electricity, and their warm tones and bright brass will remind us continually of our mission to protect what remains of the West and its heritage, the fine things that White men created, and how the passage of time only cements those Truths in our minds. My father’s wood-working equipment is still in the three-bay garage, and we have plenty of tools, screws, nails, and fifty years of a man’s equipment, including a John Deere tractor in perfect condition.

We have neighbors who have gardened organically for decades and produce tons of veggies. We have a massive safe full of guns – enough to supply the neighbors. Her house has five bedrooms, meaning we could take in others to help protect the house. My father installed a whole house generator years ago that can power the house. The basement has back up freezers and refrigerators. The area around the house has been completely cleared of trees for sightlines for approaching miscreants.

Best of all, we live far from the Mexican border so there is no MS-13 or cartel raiders – in fact the Mexican restaurants here are owned and staffed by – drumroll please – White people! We will have no need for extra spices and “ethnic food” after the collapse since we will be feasting on wonderful locally-raised food from the local farms.

Like Admin said, Marc’s is a six hour drive away, which is close enough to be able to drive there and steal some of his cows, if mom drives the big Ford truck and I drive the Lexus to distract his dogs. We have a boat trailer and enough plywood so that we can form a base upon which we can lash down his cows we steal for transporting them back. She lives on a large lot with acreage surrounded by lawns that if we let grow will sustain the stolen cows far better than the thin, sandy soil of New Hampshire. I already envision myself surrounded by happy cows, as grateful as any rescued animal, licking my outstretched hand for the salty taste, their big eyes and long lashes looking at my like I’m Prince Charming as they stand stunned to be in the midst of so much grass.

Furthermore, there are farms all around us with cattle, dairy, and produce, all owned by locals. The farms have daughters who contain fertile eggs which I will employ to create what are commonly known as “more children”. The rural farm families are quite needy, and finding one with an extra daughter should not be hard to do. Bonds between families will be formed and nurtured, and I will become a warlord requiring oaths of support and fealty. Everyone is armed here, and it will be easy to spot the roving bands of formerly urban teens and scholars by their dusky color, which will stand out as brightly as a lit sign saying “not us”.

And most importantly, even more important than Marc’s former cows, we will be guarding the holiest of the holy Grails, which we will bring forwards into the future – an encyclopedia and dictionary that I used as a child that does not contain the word “Holocaust” – thus proving to the children that I will be producing from my loins that they do not need to bear the psychological guilt of something that did not happen. They will naturally then gravitate towards Mein Kampf, which we will read every night by the fire until they can recite by heart all the passages within it. We will embody the well-known (and by then well-loved phrase) “My spirit will rise from the grave and the world will see i was right.”

Good times ahead. Good times. The seismic shift in my living circumstances will certainly be seen as the best move I’ve ever made. [Note to self – begin visiting farms and scouting for appropriate female companionship.]
