I went to Oakland on business middle of last year. Talked to a number of middle aged locals. FWIW two who were Latino, born and raised in the bay area, told me they refuse to take their families over to SF. They complained their car would be broken it to, and the drugs and feces were terrible. They also said when family comes to visit from out of state, they will not take them to SF.
It is sad the crazies ruined it all, of course I was told to get a hotel in Walnut Creek, not Oakland for my own safety!
I stayed in Walnut Creek when I visited there in March/April of 2022. It was quiet and nothing happened to my Jeep

Wow , Oakland was basically the tenderloin district back in the day , i went to the AFEES station there when I went in the Navy , had to stay at a hotel there , it was a two day affair ( got laid , some gal goin in the army ,cant remember her name , but I digress , I always got laid back in the day )
