I had a radio shack clear plastic thingy roughly the size of a cassette with a couple of gears and a small handle.
You stuck the thingy on the cassette and turned the handle – the larger drive gear turned the small driven gear super fast – so fast that often the cassette would fly off and tape would spool out.
So you take the pencil and hand wind it back, chuck the thingy on it and turn a little slower.
But, sometimes the tape would kink and do a 180, and then … well, you know 😀
Always gingerly unravel the tape and make a big flat loop before rolling back up…
