QUOTES OF THE DAY

“Whoever commits a fraud is guilty not only of the particular injury to him who he deceives, but of the diminution of that confidence which constitutes not only the ease but the existence of society.”

Samuel Johnson

“When once the forms of civility are violated, there remains little hope of return to kindness or decency.”

Samuel Johnson

“…in the gross and scope of mine opinion
This bodes some strange eruption to our state.”

William Shakespeare, Hamlet

“She closed this observation with a common and trite moral reflection; which, indeed, is very ill-founded, and does great injustice to animals: ‘I wonder what pleasure men can take in making beasts of themselves.’ ‘I wonder, Madam,’ replied the Doctor, ‘that you have not penetration to see the strong inducement to this excess; for he who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man.'”

COMPLETE LACK OF CIVILITY

This observation may seem too broad to some, but I think it is another example of societal decline and disregard for standard community behavior.  My son’s plane was arriving back in Philadelphia from Denver at 12:15 am. I had the pleasure of sitting in the cell phone lot in 20 degree weather from 11:45 until he called me at 12:45. Southwest Airlines (SSS’ and Billy Joe Armstrong’s favorite airline) had already screwed up the baggage carousel info.

The arrival area at the Phila airport has three driving lanes and a pickup lane on the far right where you can pull over and pick up your arriving passenger. The left and middle lanes are for free flowing traffic to exit the airport. The right lane is for maneuvering into a pickup zone. This is common sense and keeps the pickup process moving in an orderly manner.

I pulled out of the cell phone lot, made a left at the light and proceeded to enter the terminal area. It was almost 1:00 am on a Friday night. I figured I’d cruise up to Terminal E, pull over and get Jimmy in the car and proceed home. It was already 3 hours past my normal bedtime.
