The Burke-Wadsworth Act is passed by Congress on September 16, 1940, by wide margins in both houses, and the first peacetime draft in the history of the United States is imposed. Selective Service was born.

Is the Draft Coming Back?

During recent increased US-Iran confrontation, so many people viewed the Selective Service website to find out about the draft that the website crashed. People were right to be concerned about a return of the draft.

With the ongoing military conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan unlikely to end any time soon, and the possibly of the US being neoconned into war with Iran and possibly even Russia or China, the demand for troops is likely to rise. At the same time, soldiers return home with lifelong medical problems, including psychological problems, causing a horrifying number of veterans to commit suicide.

Drafting Women Means Equality in Slavery

Last week the House Armed Services Committee approved an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act requiring women to register with Selective Service. This means that if Congress ever brings back the draft, women will be forcibly sent to war.

The amendment is a response to the Pentagon’s decision to allow women to serve in combat. Supporters of drafting women point out that the ban on women in combat was the reason the Supreme Court upheld a male-only draft. Therefore, they argue, it is only logical to now force women to register for Selective Service. Besides, supporters of extending the draft point out, not all draftees are sent into combat.

The State Of Military Conscription Around The World

Russia already has conscription. If the neo-cons keep pushing for a war against Russia, do you think the feminized millennials will accept conscription and be a match for the Russians?

Britain ended conscription back in 1957 but many countries across the world still have some form of compulsory military service. The practice is controversial for many reasons including opposition on religious grounds or conscientious objection to military engagements. Many democracies including Brazil, Norway, Israel, South Korea and Switzerland still have some form of mandatory military service. Many states that have abolished conscription still have the power to bring it back into force during wartime.
