It took the PA state government and their union workers five years to add an extra lane in each direction on the Northeast Extension totaling 12 miles. If SEPTA was tasked to build a new railway station it would take a year of planning, a year in court over the lawsuit from environmentalists to protect the rare brown spotted rat, and another year to construct the station at a leisurely pace. And it would come in 50% over the original budget, which was already 40% higher due to union labor requirements and bribes to corrupt politicians.
