SOMETHING IS HAPPENING HERE & THERE

Scotland. Ukraine. Catalonia. Texas?

Anyone who can’t see or refuses to see the worldwide mood change since 2008 is either brain dead, entrapped in a bubble of normalcy bias wrapped in cognitive dissonance, or they are part of or dependent upon the Deep State.

Something is happening here, what it is ain’t exactly clear.

And, oh, YEAH, the farmers pay far-under-market rates for their water.

What if they had to pay market rates?

We should let that happen and meanwhile stop paying agribusiness concerns to NOT GROW things in wet Mississippi and Louisiana, that we are giving southwestern agriculture subsidized water to grow.

It would be interesting to see what would transpire.

“@ I_S …. Nasty is my middle name. And your rants about the Colorado River ring hollow coming from a person that lives in a semi-arid climate with the fucking Columbia River running through it. How’s the entire Pacific Northwest doing without that river? Eh, mate? Not very well, right?”

Ok dumbass……….where exactly is the Columbia river going to go? It still flows to the ocean in such an enormous and powerful way that licensed sea captains are not even allowed to cross the bar on their own.

WHERE THE FUCK ARE WE LIVING BEYOND OUR MEANS HERE SSS? Electricity generated off of the Columbia is mostly EXCESS and is exported to your equally retarded cousins in California and other points south who are living beyond their means JUST LIKE YOU! I’d bet that more than a few Columbia river electrons find their way to AZ.

WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENS TO TUCSON AND PHOENIX WITHOUT THE COLORADO?

ANSWER THE QUESTION OR SHUT THE FUCK UP DUMB ASS!!!

I’d actually have a higher opinion of you if you were honest but instead you obfuscate and attempt to divert the topic to something that suits your needs. You embarrass yourself.

I_S weighs in with another stupid comment @ 5:16 pm and makes a fool out of himself. He does seem a bit peeved this time (“ANSWER THE QUESTION OR SHUT THE FUCK UP DUMB ASS!!!”). Heh.

I don’t know how many times I’ve commented on the triple-reactor Palo Verde nuclear plant west of Phoenix. A lot. It cranks out 3,900 megawatts of power and is the largest single power plant in the entire country. Palo Verde is NOT subject to weather. 4 million customers from California to west Texas.

#2 is the Grand Coulee Dam in Washington at 3,600 megawatts when the flow from the Columbia River permits, less when it doesn’t during droughts or lessened rainfall in the Pacific Northwest. Which occurred in the 1999-2001 time frame, and power exports to California were cut. Hence, the rolling brownouts and blackouts which ended Gov. Gray Davis’ political career.

Then there’s the Navajo Generating Station in Page, Arizona which cranks out 2,300 megawatts of power from a fucking 200 yr supply coal deposit less than 10 miles away. Along with the Glen Canyon Dam about 20 miles away, it supplies the power for the entire northern part of Arizona, northwestern New Mexico, southeastern Utah, all of the water pumping stations of the Central Arizona Project, and still sends power to California.

Got that, Servant? Coal and nuclear from two plants that would pretty much power most of the entire state if we kept it all here. And we have dozens more – coal, hydro, and natural gas.

Now then, there’s the Salt River Project for Phoenix metro and the aquifer for Tucson metro where the water issue is concerned. Sure, the Colorado River is critical to the Southwest, but it isn’t a life or death situation here in Arizona. But it sure as shit is for Vegas and SoCal.

You have just been obliterated.

SSS – I do not know about how long the aquifier will last, but pouring water onto sand in order to water 120 acres so people can play golf in a desert does not make sense to me. Deserts are not the appropriate places for golf courses. In my opinion.

Huge amounts of water is wasted – growing the wrong produce in the wrong areas. Eventually, that needs to be addressed. Starting with the absurdity of growing high water need crops in deserts of California.

What’s your solution, genius? I come to this site with facts and figures. 80% of the winter lettuce consumed in this country is grown around Yuma. Irrigated fields from the Colorado River, right next door. Fact.

I don’t make shit up or say “I think” with zero supporting evidence. Not my style. If anyone has evidence that Arizona, or the Southwest in general, is living in an unsustainable water model, I’m all ears. Otherwise, I say you’re full of shit.

@ Stucky …. fuck you. You’ve NEVER ruled in my favor as your self-appointed title “Da Judge.” Never.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident” – SSS, some things are self-evident and do not need facts and figures. One such thing is the absurdity of using water in a fucking desert for golf courses, when there is a US water shortage. AZ MAY have enough – for how long may be the question – but there are other places that do not/will not have enough.

You are the one talking about Arizona and the SW. I am speaking generally. Plus, what projections would I use – if AZ is going to grow to 100 million people because CA falls into the ocean, there would be one water outcome. If AZ population drops, there would be another.

My point is this – using a precious resource (water) to create golf courses in the desert is absurd. Especially when there are parts of the US – AZ is still in the US last time I looked – that need water. The water used on AZ golf courses could be 1) exported to other areas, or 2) used for agriculture in order to minimize the need for water in the other areas.

I would want that those places in need of water to start using what they have wisely, but that is never going to happen : “It is my water and I will do what I want with it” is still the view, and still the law of the land, by and large. So it will be wasted and the resource will be destroyed.

“I may not be able to define pornography, but I know it when I see it.” I may not be able to define stupid use of water, but I know it when I see it. And golf courses in the desert is stupid.

And with respect to the ground water – it seems it is going down, and drastically – despite your claims to the contrary. Further, the use of that water is having destructive effects on the ecosystem:

“Desert Southwest – Increased groundwater pumping to support population growth in south-central Arizona (including the Tucson and Phoenix areas) has resulted in water-level declines of between 300 and 500 feet in much of the area. Land subsidence was first noticed in the 1940s and subsequently as much as 12.5 feet of subsidence has been measured. Additionally, lowering of the water table has resulted in the loss of streamside vegetation.

A 1942 photograph of a reach of the Santa Cruz River south of Tucson, Arizona, shows stands of mesquite and cottonwood trees along the river. The same site in 1989 shows that the riparian trees have largely disappeared, as a result of lowered groundwater levels.

These pictures show a reach of the Santa Cruz River south of Tucson, Arizona. In the 1942 picture vegetation is growing in the riparian (river bank) area the river, indicating that sufficient water in the soil existsed at a level that plant roots could access it. The same site in 1989 shows that the riparian trees have largely disappeared as a result of lowered groundwater levels”.

Water is just vodka without the zip, however you do need water to make vodka so I will chime in on this topic.

With all this talk of agricultural and golf course uses, river systems and dams, electrical power plants, aquifers and sewage recycling the only thing that remains to be considered is HOW FAR IS IT TO DRINKABLE WATER AND IS IT CLOSE ENOUGH FOR ME TO CARRY TWO FIVE GALLON BUCKETS OF IT TO MY FORT EVERY DAY.

The bribe money I offered you will be delivered to your home by two guys named Vinnie and Guido. They both favor dark glasses and wear wife-beater T-shirts usually stained with pasta sauce. Vinnie has a long scar on his right cheek, and Guido is missing his left ear.

Hint: I wouldn’t make any jokes about Italians if I were you.
