I’ll give your mom my prayers, Stucky. My late father had 9, yes N-I-N-E, hip replacement operations over the course of 40 years, beginning in the late 60’s when the technology and materials weren’t perfected. And being so active as he was (horseback riding, mostly), he tended to wear them out about every 5 years.

My thoughts and prayers are with you Stucky. You’ve done your research so I don’t need to tell you outcomes for hip replacements are very good. She”ll need Rehab, I don’t know how much help she will have in the home. So Ask for PT/OT eval in hospital to see if she qualifies for inpatient Rehab rather than home health rehab. If you have questions ask to speak to an RN Case Manager or Social Worker, one or the other or both will be assigned to her case.
Be thankful the surgery is available to her at her age, in the not to distant future it won’t be so.

Good Luck

Stucky, I don’t pray but please give your mom (and dad) my bet wishes. Your parents are some tough old farts and I enjoy hearing your stories of their lives.

Find a physical therapy place for her that has a pool. Based on my personal experience it will both speed and ease her recovery. Tasks that are difficult or painful on land become easy and comfortable in a warm pool which will help her attitude tremendously.

My wife had surgery today. Surgeon was pleased and all looks well.

Stucky – your Mom will be fine, but I’ll be praying for her, anyway. Just tell her NOT to drink anything – and I mean nothing – when she is coming out of anesthesia. She’ll be up and around in no time and lapping you.

Stucky-

I’ll be deep in the woods at 1 pm, closer to God. This prayer is top on the list.

Travel safe- best to your mom.

That is fantastic news. Has she yelled at you yet? Then you know she is back to normal 🙂

A round of applause for her surgeon and her being a tough old gal.

Tell your momma that this afternoon the kids and I will be making laser guided blow dart guns in her honor. I even got some hello kitty duct tape for the occasion.

Wind chill right now is -22. Not planning on going back out for love or money.

Hey Hardscrabble,

I found that foam ear plugs fit perfectly and make a great, in the house, ‘nerf’ blow gun projectile.

I’m sorry I didn’t read this thread until this morning, two days late. It sounds like your mom is experiencing a successful outcome, even without my prayers! 🙂 She will undoubtedly need a few more as she recovers, and I will be on the job.

You are a good son. Blessings.
