I took the minivan to the Jiffy Lube at the 5 Points intersection in Montgomeryville for an oil change this morning. I arrived at 8:01. It opened at 8:00. They completed the entire service by 8:15. I used my $10 coupon and ended up paying $31. The staff was courteous, efficient, friendly and quick.
I’ve been taking my vehicles to this Jiffy Lube for 15 years. I know all you grease monkeys prefer to do it yourself, but I have no interest or inclination to do any work on my cars. Over the years the staff has changed dramatically at this Jiffy Lube. It probably isn’t a fun job. They have three bays and a staff of about 8 guys. They were all hustling and busting their humps to service my van and the other car that was there. There were five young white guys and three young Asian guys.
This is my observation. Having gone there for 15 years, I’ve seen the demographics of the Jiffy Lube staff change dramatically. Back when the economy was booming in the early to mid 2000’s the staff was mostly African American. In the last few years the staff has been solely white and Asian. I find myself wondering why the shift. I don’t think Jiffy Lube is practicing racial discrimination. I can only think of three possible reasons:
Is the economy so bad that suburban Asians and whites, who would normally get office jobs, had to accept lower paying low skill jobs that would normally go to the less skilled people from urban areas?
Has the level of welfare benefits (SNAP, Section 8 housing, SSDI, subsidized phones, cable, utilities) become high enough that low income people no longer choose to work?
Jiffy Lube is racist and Obama will be putting Eric Holder on the case as soon as he’s done investigating Tea Party members and AP reporters.
Any other ideas on this demographic shift?
Your ideas sound about right to me. Maybe a combination of both; or they can’t find black people with the right skills for the job?

Obama has increased welfare spending by 45% his first term to over $1 trillion a year, and is increasing welfare spending every year. There are 100 million people on welfare. You do the math. Do they need to work? fuck no.
White kids are taking whatever jobs they can get, end of story. Waiters, jiffy lube, McShits. There simply aren’t enough jobs. The U.S. unemployment rate in the U.S. for 18-24 y.o. is almost 30%. The boomers are still warming their desks at “office jobs” since they didn’t bother to save for retirement. Those grease monkeys are glad to have a job servicing cheapskates like Admin.

May I offer a 4th possibility, in combination with the welfare benefits (Door #2 in Admin’s choices). Public education for EVERYONE sucks. The end.

I think that management when given a large number of potential workers choose white and asian people because they are more comfortable with them. Unless it is a black neighborhood. Birds of a feather.
Some time this afternoon Ms Freud and I will be going to Sonoma & Williams … a store specializing in kitchen items.
We use Almond Milk often. I just yesterday discovered how damn easy it is to make Almond Milk … almonds, water, and salt …… which is about 15 ingredients LESS than on the carton we just threw away. I’m trying to reduce to zero my intake of crap chemicals, so I’m going to be make my own.
One of the things I need is a type of cloth similar to cheesecloth … to squeeze the liquid from the nuts … only this item is specifically made for producing “milk” from raw nuts. Unfortunately, it is called a nut bag.
Now I am in the most unfortunate position of having to ask for help, to locate the item.
“Sir, do have nut bags?”
“Of course I do. Don’t you?”
“Sir, where could I find your nut bags?”
“Hopefully in the same place you find yours!”
And if the clerk is a woman … I’m just walking outta the fuckin’ store.

Of course it has, but those people are still working with jiffy lube, but now it’s called K-Y jelly and it is being applied to the asses of the taxpayers.

Being a minority I know from experience you can’t beat the good old white boy network unless:
1. sometimes if you can clearly prove you are a far better candidate
2. no good old white boys happen to show up for an interview and they are forced to scrape the bottom of the
barrel and hire people like me
On a positive note if you do a good job you will be the last one out the door when pink slips are dispersed
