Stucky’s Wonderful Adventure with MAGNESIUM

The just released article below is kind of dryly written …. all scientifical, and stuff. But, that gives it more credibility. Right?

I only recently became aware of Magnesium … its extreme importance to the human body …. how virtually all Americans are magnesium-depleted and the dangers thereof …. and, like Heinz ketchup, magnesium oil cures at least 57 human ailments. Let me briefly tell you my story.

For about the past year and a half I have had a CONSTANT tingling in my left foot. It must be genetic. My mother had the same thing happen to her at the same age. Now, 20 years later both her feet are always swollen and give her pain. I have zero pain. Yet. But the tingling is there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Extensive age spots also cover the foot … those same brown spots old people get.

About 10 days ago I started applying Magnesium oil, sprayed directly on Mr. Left Foot, and then massaged for about 5 minutes into the skin. I do this 3 times a day. The results? The tingling is almost totally gone. It’s there only in the morning, and it goes away later in the day once the magnesium oil is applied. The brown spots? 75% gone!! All in 10 days. Simply the most amazing thing my body has ever encountered. (Well, not counting the hooker I met while stationed in Greece.) Best purchase I ever made in my life.

MAGNESIUM SOURCES

My own extensive googling has narrowed my Magnesium Oil sources to the following two;

1)-  HTTPS://WWW.SWANSONVITAMINS.COM/LIFE-FLO-PURE-MAGNESIUM-OIL-8-FL-OZ-LIQUID

Brands other than Swanson supply this. The important data point is that the actual source of the oil comes from the ancient Zechstein seabed in the Netherlands, several thousand feet underground. It is a concentrated solution …. 100% pure …. nothing added and nothing removed.

2)-  http://www.magnesoothe.com/

They make the same claim as to purity as above. It comes from the Dead Sea. Where they may be different is that magnesoothe published lab analysis of their product contents, and it may contain more trace elements.

So, I bought both and alternate days.

===========================================================

ASTRONAUT RESEARCH POINTS TO THE ANTI-AGING PROPERTIES OF MAGNESIUM
(NaturalNews) For decades, we have had empirical evidence of pathological conditions associated with accelerated aging: from vibroacoustic disorder in train engine drivers to ‘burn-out syndrome’ and radiation exposure in aviation pilots. Over the past 5 years, however, the space medicine community has elucidated vital implications for preventing diseases and enhancing quality of life and longevity in the community as a whole.

Numerous studies researching processes associated with accelerated aging in space have pointed to magnesium for controlling damage done to the kidneys and heart by increased sympathetic nervous system activity. Magnesium is required to synthesize and release kidney atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP); in the extremities of space, a reduction of ANP is seen following elevation of norepinephrine, angiotensin, and aldosterone.

Applying magnesium protects the kidneys from the sympathetic nervous system as well as the heart from the associated hypertension or high blood pressure. Researchers are suggesting that spaceflight and gravity-induced conditions are not just convergent with aging research for normal individuals on Earth, but entirely parallel.

Mitochondria stressed by magnesium deficiency

NASA and ISS laboratories have observed evidence that cellular senescence is linked with stress-induced changes in blood pressure. This potentially circumvents the relaxation response by causing the stress hormone, epinephrine, to induce mobilization of magnesium and subsequently deplete its available stores. Magnesium is also shown to be significantly depleted after space flights.

Magnesium is the second most abundant cation in cells besides potassium. Serum magnesium deficiency occurs when levels go below 1.7 mg per deciliter. While some 60% of Americans do not consume enough magnesium to reach measurably healthy blood serum levels, the same percent may have unmeasurable magnesium deficiency inside of red blood cells.

Magnesium is shown to regulate over 300 enzymes as well as directly stabilizing DNA. Additionally, magnesium promotes a person’s ability to relax. Paradoxically, however, it takes energy to manually relax; this is achieved by magnesium providing the building block for the energy currency, ATP, in mitochondria of the cells. The relaxation response (RR) relies on having the energy to shut down several brain regions, such as the amygdala, anterior cingulate cortex, and lateral habenula, which would be activated from the stress, and to manually shift the energy to a part of the brainstem called the globus pallidus that projects to the lateral habenula and determines whether it allows the reward center, the nucleus accumbens, to receive its dopamine reward.

Calming down is a reward for mitochondria, because inside of the nucleus accumbens neurons are mitochondria trying to keep the region intact, and the reward chemicals reduce the friction on their cellular life cycles. All the brain regions rely on mitochondria for energy to function, so the magnesium content in the calming regions determines response to kidney and adrenal secretions that affect the heart, breathing, oxidation, and magnesium stores during stress.

Meditation harnesses and saves magnesium before it’s wasted

A systems biology analysis approach has identified 39 genes that can be regulated by relaxation response practitioners, which may become key knowledge in addition to magnesium treatments for both terrestrial and astronaut regimens.

The authors state, “Systems biology analysis identified histone (HIST1H2BC), calcium channel (CACNA1C) and cytochrome C (CYC1) among top focus hubs of the Long-term Upregulated pathways. These genes have been linked to pathways responsible for energy metabolism, electron transport chain, biological oxidation and insulin secretion. These pathways play central roles in mitochondrial energy mechanics, oxidative phosphorylation and cell aging. …In essence these adaptive responses become markers of what might be called mitochondrial resiliency or mitochondrial reserve capacity. Long-term RR downregulated genes revealed associations with pathways involved in immune response (e.g. IL6, IL10, CCR3, antigen processing and presentation, TCR signaling), apoptosis (e.g. Apoptosis, Ceramide, PML) and stress response (e.g. stress pathway, MTOR). …thus linking psychological stress to deregulated immune function and DNA repair that could be impacted by RR”

Radiation, leaky electrons, DNA deletions. Unnecessarily exhausted engines?

Finally, mitochondrial requirements for magnesium, when met, are one of the most under-recognized aspects of our defense against radiation. The DNA deletions in mitochondria that occur with aging simply occur more rapidly when subjected to radiation, and the result is a similar reduction in efficiency of the mitochondrial electron transport chain, which results in i’s over-activation and excess generation of free radicals.

@flash – I’ll have time tonight, I’m trying a new “recipe” for our product and it grows insanely fast.

Our primary product is an all-natural animal pro-biotic. 99% of my job revolves around the gut flora of ruminant and non-ruminant live stock.

The fact that this topic doesn’t draw more interest in internal medicine floors me.

But,doesn’t it all, which is the beauty and the curse of bacteria .

TPC, I think the fact that gut fauna draws so little interest in the medical research field is there’s no money in the prevention, only the cure.

I’ve been a reader of this site, and have never commented.

I jwanted to thank Stucky for the hat tip on mag. I ordered some Magnesium chloride oil and also some flakes. I’m impatiently waiting for the order to ship.

There was mention of gut fauna… I have a child that has autism and he has struggled with gut problems. I ferment milk keifer grains and water keifer grains. The resulting fermented milk and water are full of probiotics. The water if allowed a second fermentation becomes effervescent.

@TE You mentioned Deep Woods Off. The “good” stuff sold in the US is 100% DEET. That shit is shag nasty. It’s not even legal to sell it in Canada with levels above 25%. Dad found out working woods cases that when he would coat his hands, he would literally melt his fingerprints into the camera he was using. This changed his perception of it in two ways, first he stopped applying it to his skin directly. He would spray it on the outside of a heavy flannel shirt and jeans if he required HEAVY mosquito protection. Secondly, it has been added to our arsenal as a glue. Split remote battery door? No problem, just apply 100% DEET to the broken edges and press back together. It’s like welding, only for plastic. It fuses back together.

@flash DAMN. The comment about the Chlorine/Fluoride makes some serious sense now. I grew up on rural well water (Iron/Calcium heavy–hard water), for my first 25 years or so. Between my time in Los Angeles, and now here in Superior, I can only source treated city water (I’m not about to pay the exorbitant prices for bottled water). Have had regular intestinal problems that coincide with that almost exactly. I thought that by drinking 1-2L of water a day, I was being “healthy,” and apparently I am only hurting myself.

Had a couple of other things to mention, by after reading all the various replies, have slipped my mind.

Definitely going to consider getting some Mg oil (dad seems convinced too), but am going to try and get a hold of my old neighbor first. He lived too doors up from where I grew up (and lives there again now), works here in town at the local oil refinery. May have to get a stock of some glass beer growlers for him to fill with well water, and meet him at work to pickup/swap.

Also looking at dietary options for adding extra Mg. I hate avocodo, and it’s almost impossible for me to eat most seeds these days. Lake Superior sourced fish isn’t terribly hard to source (here), and regularly see it marked down in the local supermarket meat dept’s “must sell today” freezer. I started avoiding shrimp after the BP spill (still don’t trust it), and wouldn’t eat that glow in the dark Fukushima Tuna if you paid me to. Even Alaskan Salmon is suspect.

Oh, one of the other things I had wanted to mention. One of the Dr.s here in town (retired, Dr. Gary Kohls) writes a weekly column for the local free weekly paper. He did a series on Fluoride a month or so back. I will dig thru my back Issues I still have around to see if I still have them. There were 2 weeks dedicated to just the history of how the US muni water supplies came to be fluorinated. Was at least one more talking about effects (possibly 2?), all included references (mainly to printed texts).

Could be helpful to TPC if he wants to continue his research. I will look tomorrow. If I can find the issues, I may be able to find online copies.

TPC, that was a very entertaining read.Makes we wonder what else you’re cooking up there in your lab?

TPC–Ah, see I’m more concerned with growth rates. Lower innoculant volumes mean slower growth, which is money lost. A lot of my research lately has been centered around reducing time to harvest.

You’re still missing the point. The thread is not about “money lost”, it’s about health lost and the opportunity to recover some of it.

Slow food while to slow for corporate tastes has a strong following amongst the health conscious

@flash – When referring to innoculant volume, you could simply increase your starter volume.

As for corporatism….its a feed additive. We have taste/smell parameters we have to meet. Most of what I’m doing to increase yields and speed is simple stuff, its just nobody has thought to do it the entire life span of the company.

In our case the microbe isn’t being grown in idea circumstances. I’m slightly tweaking those circumstances in a direction better for the microbe.

As for the start of this little branch of conversation (starter vs natural cells), I was just providing a reason why individuals may want to add starter, and then backing it up with person experience.

I’ve got a couple guys here who make moonshine and home made wine, neither one of these guys routinely use starter culture. Sometime their stuff turns out alright, sometimes it takes a bit longer.

You can do either way. People have been using starter and people have been allowing things to naturally ferment for thousand of years. The starter is a bit more reliable in my experience, but that doesn’t mean natural isn’t as good, it just takes a bit longer.

You may be able to save back some of your own “starter” just by making your own from a “started” batch of fermenting carrots.

Its literally the same as making bread (ya know, starter dough and all that) except using a liquid.

Regarding the floride issue, there was more to it then these articles alone, there was at least one featured article (in the June 7, 2013 issue), which unfortunately, is not available online. These might have some interesting tidbits in them, its a good portion of what was published.

I thought these were more recent then this, my current collection only goes back to June 21, 2013. I have apparently already recycled the above issues (once the stack starts getting pretty thick, I take a chunk off the bottom).

That stuff is great. Thank you so much! I used it on my shoulder and it seemed like it worked in minutes. I told DH and he said it was placebo. I said just try it and he woke up the next morning and said, “That stuff really does work!” We’ve both taken oral mag for pain. It makes complete sense that transdermal delivery would be faster and more effective. We both use it all the time and DH even keeps a bottle in his truck. I will always have a bottle in my health cabinet, and be grateful to Stucky (and Teresa, and Jim!) for this post. I’ll stop back and let you know if/when I see any long term results on my carpal tunnel.

Thanks again!

Now I want to share something. DH has Morton’s neuroma which causes him constant pain in his feet. Many people have to resort to surgery, to remove the fibrous tissue that formed around the nerves and many times they remove the nerves altogether. I was dxed w/ uterine fibroids and read how castor oil packs will dissolve them, so it made sense that it would also help with MN. He’s been using Castor Oil Packs for about two months, and he’s starting to see results. I can see that he is walking with less pain now. If anyone here knows anyone with that horrible condition, urge them to try castor oil packs. He’s been doing it about two months now, five nights a week. He’ll go for a full three months, and more if he needs it. In order to prevent more from forming, he’ll always use the metatarsal pads in his shoes. HTH keeps any reader or anyone they might know who has it away from the MedIC, out of pain, and off of disability.

No, thank you! We are truly grateful, and have told a lot of people about it. My oldest kid works for my husband’s small biz as a laborer (ditch digger) and I rubbed into his back and shoulders and it worked for him too.

Just to be clear, DH was never on disability. People have gone on disability from Morton’s neuroma though. It’s that bad. Her also uses the mag oil on his feet in the morning. Could be that’s helping too!

. (Not sure why someone would thumbs down my post…)

MacGhil, so fabulous for you! Funny you brought up castor oil, I just read up on it and am going to try it on a fatty tumor on my black lab. The vet wants $400, plus they will put her under, she is already over 10 and I do not want to risk her life for a “maybe.” Castor oil was recommended by many. I’ll let y’all know how it goes, you can read tons of testimonials at earthclinic.com.

Quick update: My bro-in-law has been under doctor’s care for decades due to back injuries that have now nearly paralyzed his neck. His doctor told him that barring another surgery (2nd or 3rd), that he was out of options and that BiL would have to live with pain and narcotics (he is 50).

He called hub to have him ask me what I would do, I recommended mag oil, with mag supplements. Within an hour of rubbing his neck, he was able to turn it for the first time in months. He called me in tears to tell me how much relief the mag oil gave him.

There are literally hundreds of alternatives that can be tried for nearly every health issue under the sun. Humans did NOT live without medicine prior to the creation of the AMA and FDA, and many of the “folklore” and anecdotal “cures” work better – with few to none side effects – then any meds the chemical community can produce.

Bless everyone, here’s to better health.

Has onyone tried water kefir? You can make your own probiotics at home and even your own probiotic beer or sparkling water. It’s great!! I suffered from dysbiosis for a long time and I noticed a remarkable difference. I had tried probiotics, even hi potency ones, but they hardly compare to real cultures in strength.

Probiotics, both bacteria and fungus, produce a remarkable number of compounds. Some are vitamins, some just byproducts of their metabolism, some work to inhibit the growth of other less friendly bugs. Bacteria actually communicate with each other and are aware of how many other of their kind or enemies are around, through a chemical language. Quite remarkable!! The phenomenon is called quorum sensing if anyone is interested in finding out about it, there are YouTube bids, even a Ted talk, I think. Gut health and the role of bacteria is far, far reaching.

After reading this thread I started using epsom salt soaks on my recently re-built ankle. The ankle joint itself has felt just like brand new since the surgery but for more than ten years I walked on my heel and outside edge of the foot in an effort to minimize the pain. Because I had not used all of the fine muscles, tendons and ligaments in my foot, ankle and lower leg to walk or step normally, I am having a hell of a time learning to walk like a human again.

After Stucky posted this tread a few weeks back I started soaking it in hot epsom salt baths and the improvement is astonishing! Even with twice weekly physical therapy it seemed like I was always taking three steps backwards and half a step forward. I could only work about two hours without pain a stiffness. Since starting the epsom salt baths it’s been three steps forward and half a step backwards. Now I can work 10 hours before the pain and stiffness set in.

An interesting thing I’ve noticed since starting the epsom salt baths………One of the rooms I work in can get up to about 130 degrees. To protect the materials I work with I have to wear nitrile or latex gloves. As anyone who works in such gloves can attest, your hands sweat quite a bit. When I take off those gloves after being in that hot room all I can smell is magnesium.

Starting this week I’m stopping the epsom salt baths and switching to just mag oil to see if there is a difference. Thanks again to Stucky and the lovely TeresaE for edjumacting us!

IS.

I started using epsom salts to make my magnesium oil. The valence of the magnesium is the same (+2) as with magnesium chloride so it does the same thing. You also do not get any burning with epsom salts that you do with the mag chloride.

Many on the web swear by only using mag chloride but i do not think they understand chemistry, if the valence is the same the metal will do the same thing.

Magnesium oil will loosen your stool, so the test to determine how much you need to apply is to simply watch your bowel movements. If they turn too loose, then back off the magnesium a little.

And stay out of Walmart lest you end up on POWM with a ass stain. Heh.

BTW you can buy magnesium flakes and mix with water and make your own’oil’ though its not really oil, the magnesium makes it feel that way.

Jimski, we had a APE (A&P) whose name I will never forget (Didway) who was sent to grind the corrosion off a DC-8 cabinin pressure outflow valve, and he did grind on it for hours, he had magnesium dust all over his pants (he was using a die grinder on a waist high table) and well, the nutplates were metal, and when he hit one it sparked and set his birds nest on fire.
