BREAD, CIRCUSES & BOMBS – DECLINE OF THE AMERICAN EMPIRE – PART TWO

In Part One of this article I discussed the similarities between the Roman Empire and the American Empire at a high level. In this article I’ll delve into some specific similarities and rhymes between the fall of the Roman Empire and our modern day empire of debt, decay and decline. I’ll address our expansive level of bread and circuses and how defects in our human nature lead to people willingly sacrificing their liberty for promises of safety and security. All empires decline due to the same human failings and ours is no exception. If anything, ours will be far more spectacular and rapid due to our extreme level of hubris, arrogance, willful ignorance and warlike preference for dealing with foreign powers.

It seems there were a few visionary thinkers in the late 1950s who foresaw the dire course our former Republic was setting. Their writings were a prophecy and a warning. There was still time to change course and avoid the pitfalls that led to the Roman Empire collapse. In Brave New World Revisited, Aldous Huxley warned against allowing a few amoral men using propaganda, scientific advancements, technology, brainwashing, and economics to control and manipulate a willfully ignorant populace into a dystopian dictatorship. The Soviet and Chinese dictatorships of the late 1950s are long gone, but Huxley foresaw how modern propaganda techniques would be used by the state to drown the masses in a sea of triviality, irrelevance, and consumerism.

“In their propaganda today’s dictators rely for the most part on repetition, suppression and rationalization — the repetition of catchwords which they wish to be accepted as true, the suppression of facts which they wish to be ignored, the arousal and rationalization of passions which may be used in the interests of the Party or the State. As the art and science of manipulation come to be better understood, the dictators of the future will doubtless learn to combine these techniques with the non-stop distractions which, in the West, are now threatening to drown in a sea of irrelevance the rational propaganda essential to the maintenance of individual liberty and the survival of democratic institutions.”

Another man of vision was President Dwight D. Eisenhower. As someone who understood the military industrial complex and the world of politics and power, he knew the danger of allowing the arms industry to dictate the foreign policy of the country. Maintaining a military empire bankrupted Rome and it is bankrupting the American empire. Eisenhower’s warning was unheeded.

“We have been compelled to create a permanent armaments industry of vast proportions. Added to this, three and a half million men and women are directly engaged in the defense establishment. We annually spend on military security more than the net income of all United States corporations. This conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. The total influence — economic, political, even spiritual — is felt in every city, every State house, every office of the Federal government. We recognize the imperative need for this development. Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. Our toil, resources and livelihood are all involved; so is the very structure of our society.

In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. The prospect of domination of the nation’s scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present and is gravely to be regarded.”

When I was researching the similarities between the fall of the Roman Empire and our American Empire fall in progress, I stumbled across an essay written in 1956 by Ben Moreell called Of Bread and Circuses

Toxic Bread, iGadgets, Circuses, & Zoloft

“The evil was not in bread and circuses, per se, but in the willingness of the people to sell their rights as free men for full bellies and the excitement of the games which would serve to distract them from the other human hungers which bread and circuses can never appease. The moral decay of the people was not caused by the doles and the games. These merely provided a measure of their degradation. Things that were originally good had become perverted and, as Shakespeare reminds us, ‘Lilies that fester smell far worse than weeds.'”Ben Moreell – 1956 – Of Bread and Circuses

There is nothing inherently evil about food, iPhones, professional sports, television, computers, music or medicine. Human beings need food to sustain them, entertainment to provide relaxation and diversion from their daily labors, and medicine to alleviate illness and prolong their lives. Only when the people allow themselves to be lured into servitude by malevolent purveyors of bread and circuses does the perversion of seemingly harmless things begin to fester and overwhelm a nation with the fetid stench of decay and decadence. The moral degeneration of the American populace, like the Roman people before them, happened slowly over time as they sold their liberty, freedom, and self-respect for full bellies, an endless array of modern day distractions, and promises from their highly educated rulers they would be taken care of and protected from all threats to their well-being, whether foreign, domestic, physical, mental, or social.

It did not happen all at once. It happened gradually over time. We allowed the weaker facets of our human nature to succumb to the pleasurable promises of a minority of power seeking manipulative men who always attempt to control and influence the majority because they believe they are wiser and deserving of riches, glory and supremacy. The greediest, most arrogant, ambitious and well educated amongst us tend to rise to the top in all societies. As Ben Franklin stated, only a virtuous people can keep sociopaths from gaining control of our political, economic and financial systems and perverting a republic built upon a foundation of free markets, liberty, and self-sufficiency.

“Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become more corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters.”Benjamin Franklin

Historian Tacitus noted, as Rome became more and more corrupt, the number of laws grew rapidly. The Roman aristocracy, through corruption and thievery achieved lofty status in Roman society. Senators and wealthy knights engaged in extensive practices of conspicuous consumption, creating palatial town houses and monumental “art villas” to demonstrate their high rank in society. The peasants sank into poverty, while being satiated with bread and circuses. And it was all done legally, just as it is being done legally today by our beloved aristocracy and their minions.

“The more corrupt the state, the more numerous the laws.” – Tacitus – The Annals of Imperial Rome

Has the proliferation of laws, rules, and regulations over the last century made us freer, safer and less corrupt?

The virtue of the American people has dissipated rapidly over the last century through their willful ignorance, laziness, apathy, vanity, greed and covetousness, while the true ruling power has consciously and intelligently manipulated the masses without them being aware they were being molded, controlled, dominated and influenced by Ivy League educated men of no conscious, empathy, or sense of decency. The paragraph below, written in 1928 by Edward Bernays, reveals the true nature of our “democracy” and our real masters:

“The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. …We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of. This is a logical result of the way in which our democratic society is organized. Vast numbers of human beings must cooperate in this manner if they are to live together as a smoothly functioning society. …In almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons…who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind.” – Edward Bernays – Propaganda

Bernays and his disciples believed the American citizenry nothing more than a herd of irrational animals that needed to be led by enlightened despots like him and other highly educated wealthy men who knew what was best in a democratic society. The term propaganda developed negative connotations after some Germans used it so effectively during the 1930s, so modern American despots changed the term to public relations. It’s all about the message. As media tools have become more technologically advanced and the study of human psychology perfected, the members of the invisible government have achieved their goal of governing, molding, and pulling the wires that control the public mind in a way that enriches them and their benefactors while satisfying the base needs of the masses and keeping them distracted with trivialities, technological wonders, and a myriad of bogeyman threats. These men have contempt for the common man. They have contempt for the U.S. Constitution. They have contempt for free markets. And they have control of our country.

Needs, Wants & Desires

The concept of bread and circuses ties closely to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs theory. The ruling class realizes the masses must be kept fed, clothed and housed or revolution would ensue. The human needs documented by Maslow were satisfied or not satisfied by humans prior to the 20th century. Once the ruling class gained control of the monetary system through their jurisdiction over the Federal Reserve and the fiscal system through their manipulation of taxes and spending, they were able to bribe the masses with their own money. The rise of the welfare state has not reduced poverty or boosted the standard of living of the poor. It has enslaved tens of millions at the basic human needs level. Once those in power had successfully bribed the masses with bread (SNAP), shelter (subsidized housing), subsistence (unemployment compensation & welfare), security (Social Security) and safety (Medicare, Medicaid), it was only necessary to keep them distracted with circuses to efficiently teach them to love their servitude.

“A really efficient totalitarian state would be one in which the all-powerful executive of political bosses and their army of managers control a population of slaves who do not have to be coerced, because they love their servitude.” – Aldous Huxley – Brave New World

abraham-maslows-hierarchy-of-needs1.preview.jpg

The invisible governing authorities don’t want the masses to actually satisfy their psychological and self-fulfillment needs. The last thing they want is an educated, aware, critical thinking, independent, courageous, self-reliant, civic minded populace questioning the motivations of their keepers. This is where the corporate fascists who control the mass media propaganda machine and the sickcare industrial complex have combined forces to create a painless concentration camp of prisoners enjoying their servitude and happy to sacrifice their liberty for perceived safety. An uneducated, obese, sickly, depressed, overly-medicated populace is not a threat to the ruling class. They have been conditioned and pharmacologically sedated to such an extent the governing class feels indestructible, displaying arrogance and hubris in dangerous doses.

“There will be in the next generation or so a pharmacological method of making people love their servitude and producing dictatorship without tears, so to speak, producing a kind of painless concentration camp for entire societies so that people will in fact have their liberties taken away from them but will rather enjoy it.” – Aldous Huxley

The concept of voluntary servitude has been a constant theme across the ages as most people want to be led, told what to do, and will not question or contest those in authority. Liberty and freedom require effort, sacrifice, honor and a people with a strong moral character. The Roman people succumbed to tyranny by abandoning their liberty to despots for a full belly and grand spectacles. The American people have succumbed to modern day banker, billionaire and politician oligarchs for a belly full of toxic corporate processed food, cable HDTV with 600 stations, iGadgets, a never ending supply of cheap Chinese produced crap at big box retail stores, Facebook, Twitter, 24 hour drive thru Dunkin Donuts joints, and an endless array of professional sporting events, all paid for with an infinite supply of cheap consumer debt from the Wall Street fraud machine. We live in a warfare/welfare surveillance state built on a foundation of debt, consumerism, and delusion, with no tears. We’ve learned to love our servitude.

French philosopher Etienne de La Boetie captured the degradation of the once noble Roman people five centuries ago, and his words ring true today as the American people have foolishly relinquished their liberty to a corporate aristocracy that has bankrupted the nation, debased the currency, pillaged the middle class and set in motion an irreversible decline of the empire.

“Plays, farces, spectacles, gladiators, strange beasts, medals, pictures, and other such opiates, these were for ancient peoples the bait toward slavery, the price of their liberty, the instruments of tyranny. By these practices and enticements the ancient dictators so successfully lulled their subjects under the yoke, that the stupefied peoples, fascinated by the pastimes and vain pleasures flashed before their eyes, learned subservience as naively, but not so creditably, as little children learn to read by looking at bright picture books. Roman tyrants invented a further refinement. They often provided the city wards with feasts to cajole the rabble, always more readily tempted by the pleasure of eating than by anything else.

The most intelligent and understanding amongst them would not have quit his soup bowl to recover the liberty of the Republic of Plato. Tyrants would distribute largess, a bushel of wheat, a gallon of wine, and a sesterce: and then everybody would shamelessly cry, ‘Long live the King!’ The fools did not realize that they were merely recovering a portion of their own property, and that their ruler could not have given them what they were receiving without having first taken it from them.” – Etienne de La Boétie – Discourse on Voluntary Servitude – 1548

We are fools to not realize the governing authorities who benevolently distribute bread and entitlements to the masses have already taken the money at gunpoint from the people, while syphoning off their cut, favoring their courtesans and taking away our liberties and freedoms. H.L. Mencken, who could match de La Boetie in contempt for the ignorant masses and corrupt politicians, understood our democracy was destined for the trash heap of history.

Democracy is a pathetic belief in the collective wisdom of individual ignorance. No one in this world, so far as I know—and I have researched the records for years, and employed agents to help me—has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people. Nor has anyone ever lost public office thereby.” – H.L. Mencken – Notes on Democracy

In Part Three of this article I will address how the creation of the Federal Reserve has led to a century of currency debasement, mindless consumption and endless warfare, while impoverishing the masses and setting in motion the dynamics of empire collapse.

You need to read Lily Ross Taylor’s “Party Politics in the Age of Caesar” and Ernst Badian’s “Roman Imperialism in the Late Republic” to better understand then’s comparison with now. The American similarities with Rome are that our State is the patron replacement for Rome’s great brigand, Julius Caesar. Our poor, dependants, and other beneficiaries of government largesse are clients of our great patron State. They’re comparable to Caesar’s soldier, worker, and small farmer clientelae. Most telling is that Caesar, seeing himself as the arch-patron, sought to make all Romans his clients. That power dynamic is compable to the relationship the US government is trying to establish between itself and Americans.
Patron-client relationship is the key to the leader/state power relationship. Bread and circuses are only a method of obtaining and maintaining that relationship.

If you go to popular media sites. People believe the lies. The unemployment numbers are low. We are getting out of war’s and everything is great. Really disturbing is the people who think president Obama is doing a great job.
It must be nice to exist in bliss, with all that ignorance.
It will be a shock when the house of cards falls apart. I see it coming and im not ready. Imagine all those people who havent prepared in any way. And there are lots of them.

Greetings,

The power dynamic has not shifted just yet. Everything has its limits and the government and its corporate puppet masters must, at some level, realize that what they wish to do just isn’t happening. Look, if they wanted us living like 12th century peasants then I can guarantee you that that would be exactly how we would be living. That we are not means that they can not pull it off.

See, the police state can only grow so big before it just chokes on itself. You can only tax people so far. You can not print forever. The people still have their guns.

Good job admin.I have given up trying to wake people up to the train wreck coming our way.Its not worth the frustration . Most people don’t want to hear the truth or they done care.Every where I go it amazes me how detached people are from current events .An economic collapse will wake people up but then only GOD knows who will be voted into office. That’s what is really scary. Americans may elect a Fascist type government or leader into power.Jonah Goldberg calls it Liberal Fascism.
Keep up the good work . I do believe in miracles.

America on the march, iTard phone in hand, towards world government will cheapen and debase everything in the name of equality. Equal to the base culture of the American wasteland. When the whole world is wearing saggy pants and a Tshirt that says ‘I am Mike Brown’, when people around the world mindlessly sing god bless the USA and call our president ‘the leader of the free world’ without a hint of irony, that is the time to fall on your sword, gorge on McFreedom fries, indulge in unprotected anal sex with the nearest tranny and vote a straight Democratic or Republican ticket.

On a different subject, someone sneered at LLPOH calling him the Leader of Quality or some such phrase. That he demands quality is the sign of a leader, Americans have settled for fancy names substituting for quality while the .01% buy shit whose labels we have never heard of. Ofra had to remind the clerk that she is worthy of looking at a quality handbag. Quality is not on sale at Walmarts. An American auto maker declared that quality is job one then skipped it to save money.

This resignation with shoddy goods and food has the world laughing at us but they will eat their scorn when we ram Mcsandwiches and rap music down their throats. Fucking sub-humans.

Not much of a sports fan myself, so I probably notice it more than others.

The people around my neck of the woods have absolutely nothing on their minds but sports.

Took my grandchildren out for dinner tonight and the restaurants were jammed, went to three different places before settling on a pizza joint. What’s going on I asked at each establishment. ” No Patriots Game Today” was the reply at each place. Same thing while we were waiting 10 minutes to be seated. The folks waiting for tables with us were weeping that there was No Game today as well.

Talk about circuses, they have nothing on their minds but this stuff, and their lives and habits now evolve around it.

Go to the local pub it’s the same thing. No talking about politics, the economy, stocks, middle east situation, nothing but sports. They have the big flat panel TV’s hanging from every possible space and they are all glued to whatever the game du jour is, as if hypnotized into a group trance. Some jump up and hug and kiss one another with joy if something favorable happens to their team.

Fucking scary watching them if you are not into it.

@RE – Not in a mood to watch an entire rerun of the Twilight Zone, is that the one where Burgess Meredith as the loner librarian breaks his glasses in the apocalypse? Best.Episode.Ever.

@Admin – Of course I can’t disagree with any of it, but I do think that the Puppetmasters can stretch this game that they are definitely winning, into a very long term decline. Even with all the crazy people currently running the world armed with supersonic weapons of mass destruction and near complete control of wealth, I do think they can keep playing for quite a long time yet. The merry-go-round will become more and more deeply unpleasant, but it will continue to turn. And we will continue to ride it because there are no other rational choices.

Many people in my milieu have died lately. Even though I miss them terribly, my thoughts often tend toward ~ Well at least now they are free of all the vexing problems and pain the rest of us are still have to endure.

Albert Einstein quote:
“I do not know how the Third World War will be fought, but I can tell you what they will use in the Fourth — rocks!”

Excellent aricle on the rise and fall of empires. One contention I have is the warning by Eisenhower. Every time I read about Ike’s warning in the alternative media it makes me gag. Truman started the cold war but no one, and I mean no one excellerated, particulary by the proliferation of nuclear bombs like Eisenhower. The nuclear arsenal in the USA literally went from around 100 nuclear bombs to thousand and thousands of war heads under Eisenhower. You can look it up. When he turned the keys to the office over to JFK the country was on the brink of nuclear war. Eisnehower might have given the speech pehaps because he alowed and facilitated the massive arms buildup. His infamous speech should be called the greatest “do as I say, not as I do,” speech of all time. What a hypocrit! And no I am not a democrat and I was alive during his administration.

As you say; It is the same in the US now. The sheeple don’t give a shit about NSA spying, militarized police, loss of freedoms like that fucking Patriot Act.

As long as they can watch the next game, and the supermarket is full of chips, beer and soda they are happy. The young citizens that have brains and move on to our famed Ivy League colleges, are indoctrinated with so much moon bat shit, they become fond of Big Brother and his tactics, Lefty dick heads for life. Nickel thrower is correct. The US is still one of the freest Countries on the planet. TPTB have a long way to go and many complicated problems to solve to enslave the American people.

There is an ongoing debate whether economic freedom supports economic prosperity and happiness. The presentation “The Rise and Decline of Economic Freedom in the United States” provided an overview of the Economic Freedom of the World 2013 Annual Report.

The report discusses the authors’ Economic Freedom of the World (EFW) Index. The EFW Index is a weighted average of 42 distinct variables that are in the following five categories: 1. Size of government, 2. Legal system and property rights, 3. Sound money, 4. Freedom to Trade Internationally, and 5. Regulation.

By measuring these variables on a 0 to 10 scale, with 0 being the least free and 10 being the most free, the authors compare the economic freedom of 152 countries and territories.

The following figure shows how free each country is by quartile.

Well, in defense of the people who lived during Roman times … and even during Huxley’s …. they had extremely limited access to information.

We have the internet. Billions of web sites. Available literally to every single American … even if you can’t afford an internet connection there are plenty of free hot spots, and then you have Obama phones.

Every fuckin thing you fuckin need to know about this fuckin EVIL government and the fuckin evil masters of Amerika is fuckin available FOR FUCKIN FREE 24 hours a day, every day. Yet, this may be the fuckin dumbest generation in history.

I wish Huxley were alive today to write about this phenomena. He would probable shoot himself in the head.

And that’s why I am with bb — LORD STRIKE ME DEAD! …. in that I just don’t give as motherfuckin flying fuck about convincing anyone, about anything, ever. Fuck ’em, the info is out there … free. The only reason I comment here …. and NOWHERE else … is because I like you curs.

A people that have accepted their servitude wouldn’t be able to understand, let alone debate, the aspects and merits of their masters or the life that is provided by them. The reason that I and others posting here have noted that the friends and families only discuss sports and pop-culture is because that is that they will only do that which they are conditioned to do. The conditioned mind will not challenge orthodoxy. All that we can do is revel in our state of unorthodoxy and keep a low profile. The time may arise when the free thinkers will become a threat to the masters. It will be the duty of “good citizens” to report those that do not think as the masses do.

Good job, Admin.
I’d just point out one thing with reference to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. The State doesn’t just aim to control the masses with bread and circuses for the physiological and safet needs, but also through the Belongingness & Love Needs (gov’t daycare & preschool has replaced time with mom & grandparents, government schools provide companionship over neighborhoods and family, many find a sense of belonging by joining the military) and Esteem Needs (gov’t diplomas, veterans who are now ‘heroes’, etc..

All these manipulations are meant to undermine the individual to the service of the collective and move allegience from the self, family, and friends to the State.

Why take care of the kids when you have WIC, Head Start, free lunches and gov’t schools? Why help your neighbor? That’s what SNAP is for. Why help mom and dad and the grandparents? That’s whay Socialist Security and Medicare are for?

They fucked everyone real good and are not done yet by any means.

They are now buying up all the property, all the water, all the farmland, the utilities, the choice black angus livestock, forming food monopolies, you name it, their doing it.

They priced everyone out of good GMO free food, first class neighborhoods, top notch colleges, top notch medical care, the works.

They are moving fast now to wipe out all the small family owned mom and pop businesses with their fucking monopolies.

No stopping them now. it is all over but the crying and realization.

Fabulous post! Oh so true, and utterly appalling at the same time. What’s sad is that there are so many in this country who go along to get along. When the next storm arrives, perhaps they will have their awakening.

Only Admin could write an article that would create a love fest between bb and Stuckey. I don’t always agree but most of Mr Quinns stuff is really good. I picked up on one of his articles on Marketoracle several years ago and have been hooked since then. Interesting and thought provoking posters on this site as well. The pissing matches are pretty good.

I’ve learned to like a lot of people I’ve never met even though we disagree sometimes. Damn this is a good site. I’m from St louis and will be visiting Harleysville over Thanksgiving, it would make my day to meet Mr. Quinn at Walmart on Sunday morning.

Maintaining a military empire bankrupted Rome …

No, it didn’t, although things came close. Restoring sound finances was one of Constantine the Great’s achievements, though it took a few more decades to bed down.

They want Pena Nieto’s head on a pike. He promised to find the students just a few days ago. Some parents claim those are animal bones in the ashes. They also question where he got the money to build his private white mansion.

I notice in your illustration the pyramid, signifying America, is complete and the all-seeing eye is part of the structure. The pyramid itself is a symbol of a larcenous scheme and a cover for a gravesite. The sight of an ambulant structure inverts the whole meaning of the verse from the Battle Hymn of the Republic:
Mine eyes have seen the glory
of the coming of the Lord;
he is trampling out the vintage
where the grapes of wrath are stored;
he hath loosed the fateful lightning
of his terrible swift sword;
his truth is marching on.

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is another pyramid shape. I’m reminded of Mr. Prof’s statement that few people achieve self-actualization. The USA seems stuck on the lower levels by design (as you explain). Can’t have the world looking up to us or they’d want to be free also.

Sensetti , thanks for the info. The scenery is very appealing. and I’ve read the eastern parts of OK often get 50 inches of rainfall a year…a definite plus. The Ozark area definitely seems to be good choice to ride out the coming shitstorm.

Japan is an awesome country with fascinating people and culture and it’s one of the most peaceful countries on Earth. The country managed to avoid conflicts even during the Second World War. Japanese people are renowned for their sweet temper, diligence and rich inner world. In Japan people are more honest, polite and friendly than elsewhere. They are also extremely disciplined and organized; they often place the society over the individual. Perhaps, these traits helped them to build so progressive and developed society with the best technology and the world’s strongest economy. Japan also attracts millions of tourists to admire its breathtaking nature, ancient temples and historical sites.” –

profoundlogic– don’t underestimate the human capacity not to learn from their mistakes. When SHTF the average person will not have learned anything. He will continue to want free shit at the expense of his neighbor. Romans accepted free shit in exchange for their freedom. After the collapse they descended into serfdom in exchange for protection some strongman for another thousand years or so.

Increasing technology freed some of us up for a short period but we still wanted free shit from our neighbors. Then some people with guns gave us what we want for a price…..and so the cycle of history continues.

The only thing you can change about the time you live in is your own behavior. I found myself so wrought with anxiety over so many of these issues that the only solutions were a) join them b) die of a stroke or a hear attack c) self immolate myself as a protest or d) stop being a part of the system.

It doesn’t care about us as individuals, only as collective voting blocks, as consumers with dollars to spend, as playthings or wage slaves, as targets for their propaganda, etc.

What if you chose none of the above?

When you put in a really hard day of work- and I mean actual work involving the combined disciplines of body/mind/spirit- the result is manifold. You sleep soundly and your dreams are trouble free. You work up a well deserved hunger that you can feed from the products of your labor. You are too busy doing a good job in a safe manner with a satisfactory end product to be concerned with distractions (like MSM drivel/pro-sports/celebritivity). You look at the long term results of your labor with the kind of soul satisfying contentedness that rarely occurs in the modern world and feel a justifiable pride in it, not only for your role, but for recognizing that you are doing your part in some greater good that depends on your efforts.

I like coming here because you don’t need to hand hold and re-teach each one about the folly of willful ignorance, of the oppressive weight of a fraudulent system rife with corruption and degeneracy from top to bottom. You save yourself the kinds of blank stares or outright hostilities most posters here bitch about from their families, neighbors and co-workers. Pretty much everyone here is already aware of the doomy reality of the end-times of Western Civilization. The trick is what do you do about it?

I do not subscribe to the scenario where nobody gets out alive. Sure they do, somebody always does. The trick is to think that you’ll be one of those guys, or at least that you’ll be able to give support and succor to one of them so that some little part lives on to the next stage of human history. Nothing lasts forever, everyone knows that, not even an extremely well oiled and highly functioning totalitarian globalist elite and they don’t appear to be all that anyway. As powerful as they may appear at this very moment, does anyone really think that a Jamie Dimon or Nancy Pelosi has a snowballs chance in hell of surviving something like a Night of the Long Knives? You think they’re somehow smarter, stronger or more moral? People like that, those on the top at the moment are opportunistic, like pneumonia, but without a host to feed off of they are what they are- weak, effeminate, soft, utterly spoiled and without a future.
If all of the hard working, decent, capable stopped feeding them and supporting their system, how long do you think they’d manage to keep it running themselves.

Ayn Rand may have had some odd perspectives, but she nailed it with Atlas Shrugged. It no crime for a parasite to parasitize, but it is for the host to make himself the vessel for that kind of activity. Stop eating crap. Stop buying crap. Stop being crappy. If you want to have the perks of a corrupt system than you can’t complain about the corruption. Chose to feed it or chose to starve it. Work for it or work for the ones you love. Reject the distractions and luxuries in favor of necessities and discipline.

When I see someone like a Kim Kardashian, I don’t envy them their wealth, I pity them their vapidity. Their like Pavlov’s dogs responding to the cues of their era, but at what cost? And if that’s what people are envious of, what does that say about them?

The future belongs to the strong, to those who choose not to live in fear, who soldier on in spite of the hardships rather than cave in the face of what can only be described as Neo-Barbarism.

Humans have learned to respond to things that are sweet because once upon a time it meant calories when those were hard to come by, now they’ve confused what is healthy for what isn’t and in more ways than just our eating habits. Sloth has replaced well earned rest, gluttony our daily bread- we are the end product of our own misplaced desires and wants.

“There will be in the next generation or so a pharmacological method of making people love their servitude ……”
—-Aldous Huxley, as quoted in the article

Bingo. He hit the nail on the head with that one.

The SSRI anti-depressant Prozac (generic fluoxetine) was developed by Eli Lilly in 1974, approved by the FDA in 1988, and brought to market in 1989. In 2010, there were 24 MILLION prescriptions written for fluoxetine.

And that’s only the THIRD most popular anti-depressant on the market. #1 is Zoloft, and #2 is Celexa.

Just trying to add a little more gloom to the doom, folks. Please don’t shoot the messenger.

Admin – I have finally had a chance to thoroughly read and think about this fine article. I must say, it deserves a far greater number of responses than it has gotten. I can only assume it is because you have presented a pretty deep set of thoughts, and a proper response takes a bit of work.

Some of the things you present are beyond my knowledge. However, your basic premise is absolutely correct in my opinion. What you say is happening is what is actually happening.

You show Maslow’s hierarchy. I have studied it many times. It is generally useful, but my opinion is that the vast majority of humans are simple not smart enough/self-aware enough to move through the levels. The first two – food and security are understood by even the dullest of humans, and the next – love and family and friends is also mostly understood, albeit that a great many people do not know how to manage personal relationships well.

The next two levels are where it really falls apart – re esteem and self-actualization. Many folks want to have prestige and esteem. They just do not know how to earn prestige/respect, or create a feeling of accomplishment. Those things require hard-work, and integrity. Very few folks are going to do the hard-work, and integrity is generally lost. People that are accustomed to taking whatever they can and believe that society “owes” them are never going to have integrity, by and large.

And self-actualization, including creativity? The vast majority of folks cannot even form the concept in their heads.

What is happening is natural. The strong prey on the weak. It has always been thus. And that is what is happening. And when this natural tendency is combined with a total lack of integrity or compassion for others, a total disregard for law, etc., they entire system is destined to implode. And implode it will.

What I fear is that after the implosion it will be worse rather than better. The dark ages consumed centuries before the Renaissance. I worry that a new Dark Ages may form. There is a lot of anger out there, but there are literally billions and billions of people who have no understanding whatsoever as to what system should be in place, and what guiding principles should exist. A perfect starting point is the US Constitution, but lo and behold, that set of principles and ideals is no longer adhered to, and the governments are destroying it letter by letter, word by word, and the people sit idly by doing nothing – because they do not know what is in it, and do not value the principles it espouses.

So when the crash comes, there will be no guiding set of ideals nor principles. It will be anarchy, followed by a resurrection of some form of authoritarian system. And it could last for a very long time indeed.

There are very few people capable of influencing the direction of the nation. And those folks are either not having an effect, or do not want to be involved as it would be a tortuous life indeed.

It really is not going to end well.

Thanks again.

Hardscrabble – I rarely have responded to your posts. Your last post above is very astute, and I applaud it.

You have in your way made a similar point re Ayn Rand/ parasites. I do not tend to blame those that are preying on the weak, as it is in their nature. It is akin to blaming a lion for killing the gazelle. But humans are not gazelle, and they are perfectly capable of avoiding, for the most part, being prey. If they sit idly back and allow themselves to be preyed upon, that is a choice they are making. I generally blame the host. There are predators/parasites out there, and humans do not have to be prey. They can change the situation. Starve the beast.
