NBC’s Brian Williams is Forced to Admit His Tale of Being on a Downed Helicopter in Iraq Was Pure Fantasy

Screen Shot 2015-02-04 at 3.45.27 PMNBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams admitted Wednesday he was not aboard a helicopter hit and forced down by RPG fire during the invasion of Iraq in 2003, a false claim that has been repeated by the network for years.

The admission came after crew members on the 159th Aviation Regiment’s Chinook that was hit by two rockets and small arms fire told Stars and Stripes that the NBC anchor was nowhere near that aircraft or two other Chinooks flying in the formation that took fire. Williams arrived in the area about an hour later on another helicopter after the other three had made an emergency landing, the crew members said.

– From Stars and Stripes article: NBC’s Brian Williams Recants Iraq Story After Soldiers Protest

Just in case you still harbor any doubt that mainstream media is nothing but a pathetic amalgamation of useless liars and propagandists…

Enter NBC’s star reporter Brian Williams. A man apparently so vain and attention starved that he actually invented a war story from 2003 to make himself look tougher. Then he continued to tell the false narrative until U.S. soldiers called him out on it.

What an complete and total embarrassment.

From Stars and Stripes:

WASHINGTON — NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams admitted Wednesday he was not aboard a helicopter hit and forced down by RPG fire during the invasion of Iraq in 2003, a false claim that has been repeated by the network for years.

Williams repeated the claim Friday during NBC’s coverage of a public tribute at a New York Rangers hockey game for a retired soldier that had provided ground security for the grounded helicopters, a game to which Williams accompanied him. In an interview with Stars and Stripes, he said he had misremembered the events and was sorry.

“I would not have chosen to make this mistake,” Williams said. “I don’t know what screwed up in my mind that caused me to conflate one aircraft with another.”

I don’t know what screwed up either, as it seems pretty hard to mistake having your helicopter hit with an RPG versus…not.

Remember, these are the people who shape the news for tens of millions of unsuspecting, ignorant Americans.

“The story actually started with a terrible moment a dozen years back during the invasion of Iraq when the helicopter we were traveling in was forced down after being hit by an RPG,” Williams said on the broadcast. “Our traveling NBC News team was rescued, surrounded and kept alive by an armor mechanized platoon from the U.S. Army 3rd Infantry.”

Williams and his camera crew were actually aboard a Chinook in a formation that was about an hour behind the three helicopters that came under fire, according to crew member interviews.

The claim rankled Miller as well as soldiers aboard the formation of 159th Aviation Regiment Chinooks that were flying far ahead and did come under attack during the March 24, 2003 mission.

“It was something personal for us that was kind of life-changing for me. I’ve know how lucky I was to survive it,” said Lance Reynolds, who was the flight engineer. “It felt like a personal experience that someone else wanted to participate in and didn’t deserve to participate in.”

Reynolds said Williams and the NBC cameramen arrived in a helicopter 30 to 60 minutes after his damaged Chinook made a rolling landing at an Iraqi airfield and skidded off the runway into the desert.

Miller, Reynolds and Mike O’Keeffe, who was a door gunner on the damaged Chinook, said they all recall NBC reporting that Williams was aboard the aircraft that was attacked, despite it being false. The NBC online archive shows the network broadcast a news story on March 26, 2003, with the headline “Target Iraq: Helicopter NBC’s Brian Williams Was Riding In Comes Under Fire.”

O’Keeffe said the incident has bothered him since he and others first saw the original report after returning to Kuwait.

“Over the years it faded,” he said, “and then to see it last week it was — I can’t believe he is still telling this false narrative.”

Next you’re going to tell me there were no WMDs in Iraq.

(CBS) Fox News correspondent Geraldo Rivera, who couldn’t bear being away from the action in Afghanistan, was hundreds of miles from the site of a friendly fire incident he reported on, the Baltimore Sun said in a Dec. 15 report.

Rivera reported in a Dec. 6 piece that he became emotional and choked up while standing on the “hallowed ground” in Afghanistan where “friendly fire took so many of our, our men and the mujahedeen yesterday.” Rivera said he had recited the Lord’s Prayer.

But, according to a report on the Baltimore Sun’s Internet site, Rivera admitted that he was several hundred miles from the site – outside Kandahar – where three Americans were killed on Dec. 5 by an errant U.S. bomb.

In an interview on Tuesday, Rivera said he had confused the Kandahar deaths with another “friendly fire” incident that cost several Afghan lives in Tora Bora. But, according to the Sun, Pentagon information shows the Tora Bora incident occurred at least three days after Rivera’s Dec. 6 report.

Rivera quit his talk show on CNBC to become a war correspondent for the Fox News Channel in November. He said at the time he couldn’t bear to stay on the sidelines during a big story.

He generated some controversy among fellow correspondents for boasting of carrying a gun while on the news beat in the war-torn country. One Associated Press correspondent said in a letter to the Poynter Institute that it was dangerous for journalists to brag about being armed in a war zone.

Three Army Green Berets were killed and 20 other Americans were wounded Wednesday, Dec. 5, when an Air Force B-52 dropped a one-ton bomb near them. The soldiers had called in the air strike to hit Taliban forces they were fighting near the militia’s southern stronghold of Kandahar. Five anti-Taliban Afghan fighters also were killed and another 18 were wounded.

Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld ordered an investigation into the mistaken bombing. The Pentagon identified those killed as Master Sgt. Jefferson Donald Davis, 39, of Watauga, Tenn.; Sgt. 1st Class Daniel Petithory, 32, of Cheshire, Mass.; and Staff Sgt. Brian Cody Prosser, 28, of Fraizer Park, Calif. All were members of the Army’s 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group, stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky.

A forward air controller among the U.S. troops involved in the incident called for close air support and an Air Force B-52 bomber responded by launching a bomb known as a Joint Direct Attack Munition. The bomb is guided by a satellite navigation system and is considered one of the most accurate weapons in the U.S. arsenal. It was used for the first time in combat in Kosovo in 1999.

Pentagon officials said investigators will try to determine whether the bomb missed the intended target because of mechanical or human error.

Bob Steele, director of the ethics program at the St. Petersburg, Fla.-based, Poynter Institute, said: “I believe that Geraldo Rivera and Fox News owe their viewers a substantive explanation of what this means, journalistically and ethically. If he did this in a way that violates journalistic standards, he is disrespectful not only to his profession, but to the families of those Americans who died.”

Fox News has offered no explanation, the Sun reported. Fox News spokesman Rob Zimmerman said he had “no information” on whether the network was reviewing the incident. On Thursday, Zimmerman told the Sun it had a vendetta against the channel and hung up the phone.

People are no different today than 700 (or 7000) years ago. What a bunch of easily conned marks.

We’re so rich today that just getting a small percentage of the dolts among us to pony up a few dollars yields vast riches. The TeeVee is wall-to-wall with such crap, starting with the Nooze and ending with all the Cultural Marxism from Holly-wierd(er, the better.)

We’re told that Boogey Men are all over the world trying to “get” us.
We’re told that it’s perfectly normal for males to think their actually females (and vice-versa) and for both men and women to use the end of their excretory canal for receptive intercourse. We’re told that stupid people and smart people are all the same, and that everyone aspires to be vaguely Asian and light brown in skin color (which is what a perfect multiracial, multicultural populace looks like.) We’re told we’re heating (or cooling) the entire planet, and must make sacrifices to Gaia, the heathen god of Earth, to atone, by ending the use of hydrocarbon-based fuels (except, of course, for those attending Davos and other Very Important Convocations of the Very Important People who RULE us.)

People are more stupid than a bag of sand. At least the bag of sand can’t be convinced of all sorts of distortions, fantasies and myths.

Naw, Cronkite spread his own lies, different ones, in the service of his masters.

As with the myths surrounding the founding of the USA, it is a myth that “The News” (papers or TV) ever reported the truth except by accident.

Everything you think you know is a lie, spun by those who controlled the narrative at the time. We have a hard time determining what actually happened yesterday. Funny how so many people are so sure what they read about Jefferson, Washington, Cronkite or anyone else is true.

An adroit enough liar can make you doubt your own eyes. Been there, done that, and now for me to be table-pounding certain about something I’d need video from three angles, the recordings of which never left my control, in addition to my own eyes witnessing it.

King Abdullah’s Crocodile Tears Over Burned Pilot

Yes, Abdullah had long been an ally of sorts to the kinds of radicals responsible for burning alive Jordanian pilot Moaz al-Kasasbeh. He provided space and cooperation to US and NATO’s rebel training programs on Jordanian soil, with many “graduates” of the program later joining ISIS and al-Qaeda.

In 2013, Syrian president Assad warned Jordan’s Abdullah that he was “playing with fire” by supporting the rebels fighting to overthrow the Syrian government. How right he was. Literally.

Burning prisoners alive is breathtakingly barbaric. Providing aid and comfort to the kinds of people would do such things is, in many respects, even worse.

Save the tears, Abdullah, you helped create this mess.

Not sure why men, in or out of the military service, have to make war stories up. It is really quite sad.

It is not fun being shot at. It fucks with your mind when done repeatedly. I’ve been there, done that and join millions of my comrades who have done so in the past.

I repeat. It is not fun. You don’t want to join the club.

Hold. The . Phone.

Are you inferring that one of the premiere American journalists has been saying something he knows is to be false in order to further his own aims?

That’s just wild conjecture.

I heard a psychologist on NPR today explain how this was normal behavior and that there’s no way he could have known that he wasn’t telling the truth as he knew it. The interviewer asked if it was possible that he had “made it up” and the psychologist said without missing a beat- “That’s highly unlikely.”

I haven’t LOL’ed in a while, but that one got me.

T4C, I can certainly understand why women, mothers and nurses in particular would be so put off by seeing such a sight. Really, I understand. For me, (and this is hard to explain) part of it is that if my fellow citizens can endure such brutality then surely I can endure seeing it. It really does turn my stomach though. I’ll admit that morbid curiosity does play a small part in it as well. For instance, I’ve seen actual footage of the kind of torture McCain endured in Vietnam. Although I can’t stand him as a politician, I’m fascinated that he and others can endure such things and come out the other side as functioning and productive human beings. In a sick way I’m envious because I cannot imagine myself being human again after experiencing such things.

Among my other failings in life I happen to believe that a good, healthy, visceral hate is just as important to life as a deep passionate love or overwhelming joy.

Seeing and experiencing the bad things are extremely powerful which is why I am of the opinion that every coffin of every dead US serviceman should be shown on every newscast each night. Our masters and owners know how powerful it is too and that is why the won’t let you see it. The producers of those abused animal “infomercials” know the power as well which is why they last 15 fucking minutes!

Commentary by Paul Craig Roberts

=========================

A journalist told a harmless story and has been roasted alive and forced to apologize to the troops for lying. In the middle of this brouhaha, the US Secretary of State, the President of the United States, innumerable senators, executive branch officials, and presstitutes have repeatedly reported month after month Russian tank columns and troops entering Ukraine. Yet, despite all these Russian forces, the civilians in the break-away provinces of eastern and southern Ukraine are still being slaughtered by Washington’s puppet state in Kiev.

If Russian tanks and troops are this ineffective, why are NATO commanders and neoconservative warmongers warning of the dire danger that Russia poses to the Baltics, Poland, and Eastern Europe?

It doesn’t make any sense, does it?

So the question is: Why are the presstitutes all over some hapless journalist rather than holding accountable the Great Liars, John Kerry and Barak Obama?

The answer is: It is costless to the presstitutes to try to destroy, for totally insignificant reasons — perhaps just for the pleasure of it, like “American Sniper” killing people for fun — one of their own, but they would be fired if they hold Kerry and Obama accountable, and they know it. But they have to get someone, so they eat their own.

A democracy without an honest media cannot exist. In America democracy is a facade behind which operates every evil inclination of mankind. During the past 14 years the American people have supported governments that have invaded, bombed, or droned seven countries, killing, maiming, and displacing millions of people for no reason other than profit and hegemonic power. There is scant sign that this has caused very many

My thoughts:

1) Why are the Long Knives coming out now? This has been known for a decade.

It is because and/or:

a) NBCs ratings are total Shiite and they need to fire Williams “for cause” and avoid a big payout on his contract (ain’t it great when the Left eats their own), OR

b) this is an indirect attack on Shillary, as she is on the hook for her “landing in Bosnia under sniper fire” gaffe (remember that NBC is basically an extension of the Obama WH and Obama HATES Old Lady Clinton Cankles).

It could be just that Liars ALWAYS out themselves, eventually. No matter how smart you are, you just can’t keep track of your lies, not in the gold fish bowl that is the modern electronic age.

Regardless, if I was a GUY, I would be having a schadenboner. (That is an, ahem, well, you know, a swelling of a body part at the misfortunate of others, I stole that from nicedoggie.net).

CNN has been faking news reports with green (or blue) screen technique for decades. All of the news networks fake the news, or just downright manufacture said news. So why are you surprised about this???

I would go so far as to say that CNN does most of their LIVE war reporting from their Atlanta studio. Take a few minutes to research this, go on you tube and watch CNN fake news. Mostly read the volumes out there about how news is manufactured. This is the MATRIX, deal with it.
