I gotta be honest, nothing makes me cringe more than comparisons between Ron Paul and Bernie Sanders. While Bernie Sanders likes to talk a good game about the problems with our wars, Ron Paul has talked the talk and walked the walk. Not only did Ron Paul talk about these issues with our interventionist foreign policy, but he fundamentally understood it and the problems that were created because of such actions.
Bernie Sanders recently displayed his ignorance on these subjects when he endorsed the controversial presidential “kill list” and openly supported sending troops to Syria, additional troops to Afghanistan, as well as continuing Obama’s drone policy in the Middle East while on the air with MSNBC’s Chris Hayes.
The Presidential “Kill List”
The New York Times revealed in 2012 that President Obama hosts a meeting every Tuesday at the White House where he decides which suspected terrorists will be added to a so-called “kill list.” Those on the list can then be targeted for killing, typically with an unmanned drone.
“Do you think what’s being done now is constitutional and legal?” Hayes asked Sanders, noting the existence of “a list of people that the U.S. government wants to kill.”
“In general I do, yes,” Sanders replied.
Next in the interview with Hayes, Sanders lent his support to sending troops to Syria to aid in the fight against ISIS.
“Here’s the bottom line,” said Sanders. “ISIS has got to be destroyed, and the way that ISIS must be destroyed is not through American troops fighting on the ground.” However, “I think what the president is talking about is having American troops training Muslim troops, helping to supply the military equipment the need, and I do support that effort.”
It’s that time of year again. It’s open enrollment for health plans at my employer. They are biggest employer in Philly and have the most leverage possible with the insurance companies. They have such good leverage that my premiums are going up “only” 9.8% this year for a basic HMO plan. Based on what I hear from others, I should be thankful for just a 9.8% increase.
This isn’t a new development. Since I’ve been tracking all my expenditures using Quicken since 1991, I know exactly what my annual health insurance costs have been every year. Obamacare was passed in 2009 and began to be implemented in 2010. Obama declared that families could expect $2,500 of savings per year. I know for a fact my annual medical expenses were $2,000 higher in 2015 than they were in 2010.

The Civil War, as it’s known in the north, or the War of Northern Aggression, as it’s known in the south, supposedly “settled” an issue for time and all eternity: that the smaller political units known as states could not leave the larger political unit known as the United States, at least not without the larger unit’s consent. Unless they emigrate, 320 million people are bound to a political arrangement from which there is no other escape hatch, and the 50 states don’t have the option to leave. Similar strictures are in effect around the world. Why?
Centralization, command, and control—the tendencies that defined the twentieth centuries—are in their death throes, done in by their failures and the residual progress they’ve failed to kill. The signs are everywhere. If war is the health of the state, then states are sickly indeed. The most militaristic government on the planet, that of the United States, has not cleanly won a war since 1945, unless one wants to call Grenada a war. What has stymied the US has not been superior military force—the US has the world’s biggest arsenal and most technologically advanced military—but the force that is stymying centralization at every turn: decentralization.
In March of 2005, 52,000 new homes were sold at prices of less than $200,000. At the bottom of the crash in March 2009 that number had dropped to 14,000. The Fed instituted ZIRP and QE around that time. Sales of homes under $200,000 totaled 9,000 units in March. With sharp price rises builders have found it more profitable to build fewer but more expensive homes than selling more lower priced homes where profit margins have all but disappeared.
The Fed has promoted this distortion by enabling builders to finance their construction and holding costs of inventories at zero in real terms.

Since our model turned up in March for activity around the Ring of Fire in the Pacific, there have been near simultaneous earthquakes opposite of each other of the Ring of Fire. An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.8+ hit the Kumamoto prefecture in southern Japan on April 18th, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. Then a near 7.0 earthquake hit Ecuador April 20th. A major earthquake 7.0-7.3 hit the Pacific nation of Vanuatu early on Friday April 29th (their time), briefly prompting a tsunami warning that was cancelled after locals reported no significant damage. There was also a M6.6 earthquake on the Northern East Pacific Rise in the ocean about 800 km from Mexico. We are starting to get activity within a day or two on opposite side of the plate from each other. Our preliminary computer models are showing an uptrend now in activity for earthquakes and volcanoes from March of 2016. Something seems to be brewing.
We monitor such events because they can be very profound economically – at least the big ones. The 1906 San Francisco earthquake led to the Panic of 1907 and ultimately the formation of the Federal Reserve in 1913.
The 1923 earthquake which devastated Tokyo was a monumental event. The Japanese stock market peaked with that event and collapsed never participating in the rally we saw in the USA into 1929.
Such events are part of the system. They have produced the wildcard in the financial game of monitoring the world economy.
The hypocrisy of the Obama administration and their left wing lunatic minions is breathtaking to behold. They call Trump a demagogue for suggesting that we keep illegals from pouring over our border and swamping our social safety net system by building a wall. But they think it makes total sense to build up the wall around the White House to keep the riff raff out.
Tear down that wall Mr. Obama. Give the citizens of this country free access to your house like you give them free access to my taxes. You fancy yourself as a modern day Lincoln. Americans could enter the White House during his presidency with ease.
The U.S. Secret Service plans to raise the height of the White House security fence by 5 feet and add a new concrete foundation to reduce the risk of fence-jumpers, according to a copy of an agency report obtained by the News4 I-Team.
The agency, along with the National Park Service, said it intends to begin building a “taller, stronger” fence to protect the White House grounds by 2018.
Details of the plan were included in an audio recording of a briefing made by federal officials, which was released to the I-Team Wednesday. The same briefing is expected to be presented May 5 at a meeting of the National Capital Planning Commission, which must first approve any changes to White House fencing.
“The current fence simply is not adequate for a modern era. We’ve said that before. It is becoming more and more acutely clear that that is in fact the case,” Secret Service official Tom Dougherty said in the briefing to federal officials.
“(The fence) is entirely scale-able, depending upon the circumstances. And we have now a society that tends to want to jump over the fence and onto the 18 acres,” Daugherty said in the briefing.

Police clashed with hundreds of protesters outside Donald Trump’s rally in Southern California on Thursday night.
At least one police car was smashed up as hundreds of demonstrators – many of them waving Mexican flags – took to the streets outside the Pacific Amphitheater in Costa Mesa, Orange County where Trump was speaking.
The protesters flooded the street outside the amphitheater with some stomping on cars, hurling rocks at motorists and forcefully declaring their opposition to Trump – bringing traffic to a halt and creating a tense standoff with authorities.
One Trump supporter was pictured with a bloody face after clashing with the anti-Trump activists, many of whom appeared to be young Hispanic people.
The violence in Southern California where Latinos make up a large segment of the population suggests Trump may face more of this in the days to come, as he campaigns ahead of the state’s June 7 primary.
