Well, if that’s a real question to us STM’s …… I don’t have a computer!

Saturday morning I went to click it out of “hibernation” mode …. nuthin but a black screen. Won’t power up, won’t do nuthin. (I’m typing this on Ms Freud’s office computer … a no no.)

I know my battery is pretty much shot. Now I suspect (and hope) it’s the AC Adapter cuz it’s not even warm when I touch it. Went to Best Buy. They don’t sell laptop batteries, period. They do sell universal adapters …. BUT, it comes with 5 plugs, none of them for a Toshiba. Cocksuckers. So, today I’ll have to order them online, and hope they arrive in the next few days.

Stucky,

Use a voltmeter to check you adapter power to see if it’s working and putting out the right voltage before you buy anything.

I’m not a big laptop user, but mine (a backup machine used if my main computer needs maintenance) will run with a fully dead and nonchargeable battery on the AC adapter alone.

Thanks. But I don’t have a meter.

I’m fairly certain the thing is shot. When plugged in, an AC adapter should put forth some heat. Mine has ZERO heat. Not only that, in the past month the screen would flicker on and off, sometimes with colored lines across the top, and other strange behaviors. Trust me on this, it’s the adapter.

@Stucky: If you can read this I have one bit of advise: Get a Mac.

“But I don’t have a meter.”

How can anyone possibly live without even a simple voltmeter?

Screen flickering on and off with colored lines – this is not a problem with the power. It is most likely a problem with the cable running to the screen getting scrunched by the hinge on the laptop. So if you have NO lights at all on the laptop when you try to start it (not just no image on the screen) you have at least two problems.

Even out here in the hinterlands there’s an independently run computer repair store. You should be able to find something similar in the heights of civilization where you live. A lot of these places will give you a diagnosis for free, the others will only charge a few dollars. It would save you a lot of time and angst.

If you need a repair, you might check YouTube, lots and lots of stuff on repairing most laptops there, often far easier than you might think.

MA: Macs rule and PC’s drool!!!

I’m just busy as heck. Wife bought an ice cream store, so now I have two jobs until we sell the other business.

PC’s are computers.

Macintosh is a religion.
