“The next Fourth Turning is due to begin shortly after the new millennium, midway through the Oh-Oh decade. Around the year 2005, a sudden spark will catalyze a Crisis mood. Remnants of the old social order will disintegrate. Political and economic trust will implode. Real hardship will beset the land, with severe distress that could involve questions of class, race, nation and empire. The very survival of the nation will feel at stake. Sometime before the year 2025, America will pass through a great gate in history, commensurate with the American Revolution, Civil War, and twin emergencies of the Great Depression and World War II.” – Strauss & Howe The Fourth Turning

The chart below was posted by Jesse a few weeks ago. It accompanied a post titled Gathering Storm. He doesn’t specifically refer to the chart, but his words reflect the ominous view of the future depicted in the chart.

“When gold and silver finally are able, through price action, to have their say about the state of Western fiscal and monetary policy actions, it may break a few ear drums and shatter a more than a few illusions about the wisdom and honesty of the money masters. Slowly, but surely, a reckoning is coming. And what has been hidden will be revealed.”

The title of the post and the chart both grabbed my attention and provide a glimpse into the reality of our present situation. The Gathering Storm was the title of Winston Churchill’s volume one history of World War II. Churchill documents the tumultuous twenty years leading up to World War II in The Gathering Storm. The years following World War I, through the Great Depression and the rise of Hitler were abysmal, but only a prelude to the approaching horror of 65 million deaths over the next six years. What appeared to be dark days in the 1930’s were only storm clouds gathering before a once in a lifetime tempest. In my view we stand at an equally perilous point in history today.

The graph represents the standard progress of a three act drama in literature. In the three-act structure, act one has the least tension, since it is only establishing the characters and the settings. The catalyst triggers an increase in tension with the revelation dramatically escalating the pressure as you approach the climax. The intensity remains high in act three as the final confrontation and resolution play out. Every Shakespearean tragedy follows this general pathway to a final denouement. It peculiarly parallels the path of a Fourth Turning.

A Fourth Turning’s three acts are the catalyst phase, regeneracy stage, and climax. The plot of this Fourth Turning crisis revolves around the core elements of debt, civic decay and global disorder. The 2008 global financial crisis, manufactured by the Fed and their Wall Street puppeteers, was catalyzed by hundreds of billions in bad debt issued as part of the largest control fraud scheme in world history. The brunt of this banker formulated disaster has been borne by the former working middle class and senior citizens dependent upon interest income to survive in an inflationary world. The initial threat of full-fledged collapse was deferred through extreme monetary and fiscal actions by the establishment vassals, as they created trillions in new debt to fill the vortex produced by the trillions in bad debt.

We are only in the early stages of Act 2 of this tragedy we call The Fall of the American Empire. The tension triggered in 2008/2009 by the Federal Reserve/Wall Street created subprime debacle subsided, as the ruling class was able to expand their wealth (rigging the financial markets), while crushing dissent (OWS, Tea Party), expanding their surveillance state (as revealed by Snowden), waging undeclared wars around the globe (Syria, Libya, Iraq, Yemen), adding $10 trillion to the national debt, while distracting the masses through propaganda, electronic bread and circuses, and trivial societal diversions. While the public is busy arguing about gay marriage, wedding cakes, transgender bathrooms, safe spaces, triggers, SJWs, Bruce Jenner becoming Caitlyn Jenner, and apes rights, the ruling class pillages the remaining wealth of the nation and forges ahead with their plans to control our lives.

Despite knowing a Fourth Turning generally ebbs and flows over a two decade time frame, it can be frustrating watching the corrupt crony capitalist pigs running this shitshow continue to flagrantly disregard the rule of law, the Constitution, and abusing the citizens of this country. But the temporary lull in intensity is coming to an end. We are now eight years into this Fourth Turning with at least a decade to go before the climax. The regeneracy has been slow in coming, but it appears the mood of the country has been catalyzed by the anti-establishment campaigns of Trump and Sanders. They have begun the process of regeneracy against the ingrained, corrupt, immoral establishment.

The people are collectively revolting against the existing social order as they are finally realizing they have been used and abused by the ruling oligarchy as pawns in their game of world domination. The obscene wealth of the .1% has been absconded from the working class through abuse of the tax laws, trade deals, regulations, monetary policy, public school indoctrination, peddling of debt to the masses, and relentless propaganda. The systematic manipulation of the financial, monetary, political and commercial markets by the money masters has left the country like a mighty diseased, hollowed out, rotting oak tree – one storm away from collapsing and splintering into a thousand pieces. A gathering storm approaches.

The mood of the country has turned dark. The political parties are splintering. The elites in NYC, DC, and LA are appalled the peasants in flyover country are not following orders and voting for the hand-picked lackey candidates. If Clinton can avoid indictment, she’ll represent the establishment versus the anti-establishment Trump in the upcoming election. The establishment is using the power of the press to try and discredit Trump and Sanders. It’s failing. The mainstream media is now trusted and respected on par with Congress – lower than whale shit.

The establishment is now resorting to paying thugs to violently disrupt Trump campaign events. This ploy is backfiring, as the white silent majority gravitates toward Trump every time an illegal immigrant burns an American flag or a young woman is assaulted by Black Thugs Matter paid rioters. With the economy in freefall, rigged financial markets immensely overvalued, debt levels at extremes, global tensions rising, and an increasingly angry American populace desperate for change, it appears the stars are aligning for a Trump presidency. He is a flawed human being, with a huge ego, no filter, and no experience governing. But none of that matters. He has captured the zeitgeist of this moment in history.

At this juncture in a Fourth Turning the public is ready to dump leaders who have downplayed the vast problems facing the country (unfunded liabilities, illegal immigration, entitlements, debt, wars, jobs, bankers) in favor of leaders who are willing to amplify and tackle those problems head on. A new civic ethos of addressing and responding to threats is taking hold. The generational configuration is aligned and the mood of the country is ripe for a prophet generation Boomer, like Trump, to be the Grey Champion who will lead the country through the darkest most perilous portion of this Fourth Turning.

As this Fourth Turning careens towards its climax, the intensity will escalate. Bold decisions will need to be made requiring a leader who displays tremendous confidence and strong leadership. Political correctness will be cast aside. The previous two Grey Champion leaders – Lincoln and Roosevelt – are despised on many levels by many people, as they both ignored the Constitution on many occasions while attempting to do what they thought best in leading the country through desperate times. Their policies and executive actions during those dark days of the Civil War, Great Depression, and World War II left a long lasting impact on the country and play a major role in our current crisis. As Strauss and Howe predicted almost 20 years ago, the regeneracy is solidly under way.

“Soon after the catalyst, a national election will produce a sweeping political realignment, as one faction or coalition capitalizes on a new public demand for decisive action. Republicans, Democrats, or perhaps a new party will decisively win the long partisan tug of war. This new regime will enthrone itself for the duration of the Crisis. Regardless of its ideology, that new leadership will assert public authority and demand private sacrifice. Where leaders had once been inclined to alleviate societal pressures, they will now aggravate them to command the nation’s attention. The regeneracy will be solidly under way.” Strauss & Howe The Fourth Turning

It is difficult for the vast majority of people to comprehend the likely chaos, pain, bloodshed and war which will overspread the nation and the world during the final two acts of this tragic play. The discomfort most people are feeling is just their cognitive dissonance telling them everything will be fine as they experience a steady decline in their standard of living. Harkening back to Jesse’s original chart, the Fourth Turning regeneracy is aligning with the Revelation in Act 2.

The day of reckoning will arrive when Trump is elected and that which has been hidden is revealed. Anyone who doesn’t grasp the increasing intensity of the rhetoric, opponent interactions, and media responses will be blind-sided by the coming storm. The days of delusion, denial and debt are going to revert to dismay, depression and death.

There is no more room to increase leverage. Americans are up to their eyeballs in mortgage, credit card, auto loan, and student loan debt ($17.4 trillion). Corporations are stuffed with record levels of debt ($14 trillion) they used to buy back their stock at all-time high prices. State and local governments are drowning in trillions of debt and unfunded pension liabilities. The Federal government is $19.3 trillion in debt, with unfunded entitlement liabilities exceeding $200 trillion.

It is mathematically impossible for this debt to be repaid with a rapidly aging developed world and a debt saturated developing world. With financial markets as overvalued as they have ever been, the next crash will leave all the heavily indebted parties with no assets to repay the debt. The losses will make the 2008 financial crisis look like a stroll in the park. And the Fed shot their load years ago, without having the guts to reload. Their credibility is shot and their $4 trillion balance sheet is insolvent. The Wall Street banks are zombies sustained by 0% interest rates and accounting fraud.

I know the last few years have been frustrating for the “doom and gloomers” who actually have critical thinking skills and understand the nature of our dire economic situation. Much like Michael Burry, as described so well by Michael Lewis in The Big Short, your facts may be 100% correct but markets and people can remain irrational for longer than you think possible. By having the courage of your convictions, you must be prepared for scorn, ridicule, and mocking.

As the unpayable debt has expanded to ever greater heights and monetary authorities across the globe implement wildly desperate measure like negative interest rates and buying financial assets to prop up stock markets, the public has become more unquestioning of reality and deluded by the seeming stability of financial markets. Record low interest rates and rising stock prices reinforce the normalcy bias of most people.

Many smart, normally skeptical, people have thrown in the towel. Because the gathering storm has not struck as predicted, they begin to believe it will never strike. This same mindset existed in 1860, 1929, 1940, 1999, and 2007. It easy to be lulled to sleep by the propaganda media machines, lying politicians, and extreme monetary schemes portrayed as normal by the money men. Things are not getting better. We are not at the end of this crisis.

We are in the midst of a Greater Depression, with the most trying times still ahead. Fourth Turnings never de-intensify. They intensify into a chaotic whirlwind, where the future of our civilization hangs in the balance. The climax of this play is a long way off. The election of Trump in November will trigger the transformational change that always happens during a Fourth Turning. An ill wind is beginning to blow. You can’t avoid the coming storm, but you can mentally and physically prepare. Our choices will make a difference.

“The seasons of time offer no guarantees. For modern societies, no less than for all forms of life, transformative change is discontinuous. For what seems an eternity, history goes nowhere – and then it suddenly flings us forward across some vast chaos that defies any mortal effort to plan our way there. The Fourth Turning will try our souls – and the saecular rhythm tells us that much will depend on how we face up to that trial. The saeculum does not reveal whether the story will have a happy ending, but it does tell us how and when our choices will make a difference.”  – Strauss & Howe – The Fourth Turning

Uh, oh! Gee, the “Gathering Storm” seems to have begun under George W. Bush, otherwise known as “Jesus in the White House.” Remember him? He ignored terrorist warnings, started a tragic war that ruined the nation and is still going on, and he wrecked the economy. It has taken Obama nearly all eight years of his presidency to clean up the mess Republican jerk-offs left behind. Don’t you people ever learn? Your SHEER STUPIDITY is at fault.

As much as I despise the Clintons, they may win. I say They because Hillary is only half the package. Bill will take the place of Hillary in the 90’s as an unelected co-conspirator. I will vote for Trump, but I’m not sure his brand will overcome the elitist shadow rulers backing Clinton in the Media, Government and Wall St. The election will be rigged to insure she win. That may be necessary to provide the status quo with one final defeat. A Clinton administration will be 4 years of scandal, corruption and special prosecutors as she sells out the country for personal gain like a third word dictatorship.

Josh-Thanks for the response, and the Lincoln quotes are well done. Would you agree that Lincoln pushed the Constitutional boundary by declaring war on the Confederacy and completely eviscerating the 10th? This was probably Admin’s foundation for his statement, not Lincolns resistance to the international Banksters that probably killed him.
Are you familiar with the 4th Turning material, generation theory, or cycles? It doesn’t seem so, otherwise you would have added some value to the discussion by highlighting a particular fault you found in their work.
Rather than showing up like an uninvited cur and shitting all over well thought out work with a fuckin infantile statement such as “This turning stuff is bs”. We are all richer now with your sound refutation of turnings.

The election will be rigged, in many ways but culminating in this. Sorors, Styer, etc. will pay Black and Hispanic thugs to go to Red state cities the beat to a pulp any white people at the polling places. They will burn the American flag while waving the Mexican flag. They will put their fists in the air and wear handkerchief’s over their faces. The Police will do nothing, they don’t want to be accused of “racism”. Any white who fights back will be called bigots and thrown in jail. Such is the state of Democracy in America in 2016. Mob rule. Hillary’s mob. Hillary will say she never saw anything wrong or condoned it, of course.

The way I see it, if Trump gets elected, the end result will probably look like the Depression and World War II. But if Clinton gets elected, the whole country, and perhaps the world, will look like the South during and after the War of Northern Aggression (I’m a Southerner, South Carolina). Not a pretty thought either way, but I would prefer the Trump version to the Hillary version.

Prepping is a great idea, but also learn skills, such as gardening, preserving food, building a fire. Have the ability to do things the old fashioned way, especially anything using electricity or gas today, such as having lights, clothes washing, cooking, etc. One thing I suggest is you learn plants so if you are left with nothing, you can still eat. Know which wild foods are edible. Know how to make shelter, learn how to use a rock as a tool. In other words, know how to survive when you have nothing.

Example, during the War of Northern Aggression, when the Yanks took Atlanta, the entire city’s residents were taken out of their homes and expelled from the city with only the clothes on their backs. The Yanks took their food, animals, silver, extra clothing, curtains, sheets, blankets, everything. And they were expelled from the city right before a rain storm in February, the coldest month in the South. Many got sick and died. If that happened to you, would you be able to survive, build shelter, build a fire for warmth, find food, know which plants will help you heal, etc? (Just knowing a few herbal remedies would be a help, for colds, flu and things like that.: And this happened throughout South Carolina as well. And the good ‘ol U.S. Government was behind it all, along with the bankers.

Having a cache buried with some things to help you would be ideal. Once whoever has taken your stuff and burned your home have left the area, if you’re still alive, you can dig up your cache and have a firearm, ammunition, food, extra clothes, money, gold and silver, knives, cookware, etc. Several caches would be ideal.

I think this is going to be a long slow descent into poverty for many of us, and then everything will fall apart rapidly. Start learning how to do things now, so when you can’t buy food, you have a garden or you know how to forage for wild plants so you can eat. Learn how to do things without electricity so when you can’t pay your bills and your utilities are cut off, you can still get by. Think of what you’ll do if you lose your job and can’t buy anything. What work can you do or trade? If you own your own house outright, have silver and gold so you can pay your taxes and you don’t end up homeless (unless they burn your house).

I wish everyone luck. Let’s hope this 4th turning directs us towards more freedom and decentralization, rather than what happened after the previous 4th turnings, increased centralization, loss of more and more of our freedoms, and the mess we have now.

Lol I guess I’m right on target judging by your responses. Anyway, yes I feel Lincoln stepped beyond what the US constitution allows from the executive, however if he hadn’t, the Confederacy was already sold out to the banksters and with several European nations under bankster power already having troops in Mexico and Canada ready to assist the south, I feel any patriotic president would have done the same as Lincoln. If the Czar hadn’t said he would go to war with anyone who stepped into the US civil war we might be living in an entirely different kind of country, one where the banksters would have had power since the 1860s. But please, keep on with the astrological prognostications, it’s fun! I mean, it doesn’t have any bearing on when the banksters collapse an economy, but if it makes you feel better I’m all for it as you seem very angry.

By the way, for any newbies out there, here are two good books to buy to learn how to survive when you have nothing.

“Participating in Nature: Wilderness Survival and Primitive Living Skills” by Thomas J. Elpel

“Can You Survive: Basic Primitive, Survival and Wilderness Living Skills” by Benjamin ‘Raven’ Pressley.

Hope that helps you out, if interested.

For foraging, I suggest the YouTube Videos by Green Dean.

For making up caches, there are a lot of videos on YouTube.

Josh, have you read the book “The Fourth Turning” or even “Generations?” If not, I suggest you do, and you’ll see why we think it is a good representation of history and an outline for the future. It’s not wishful thinking, or a belief in myths. It simply outlines the patterns through history that repeat, and history shows, at certain periods, the four turnings recur regularly. And therefore, if the pattern continues, if can give you an idea of what to expect in the future.

The way I look at it, time is linear but also runs in spirals, and those spirals are the “turnings,” the repeating patterns. I discussed this book with my teenage son. He described it as a curly fry that shows the spirals (turnings), but you stretch it out straight and it shows the time is actually linear, continually moving forward even with the spirals. 🙂

Josh-
Is the Greatest Generation gone? Are we living in the America they put together? Do generations have observable stereotypes? Why are generations around 20 years? Is the average human life about 80 years, four generations? Are there observable cycles that correspond to these 20 and 80 year periods?

Do you have the ability to intelligently discuss any of these particulars? Or are you so one dimensional that discussions unrelated to international banking conspiracies cause a short circuit? Because for all of your pomp and bloviation you have utterly failed to offer a single cogent refutation to any of Strause and Howes points. Akin to that kid in class that didn’t really do any of the reading but so egotistically self important chooses to ramble on in embarrassing fashion about material that is tangentially related in self congratulating style.

Hate to tell you, but Lincoln was a monetary idiot. Why do you think he wanted the government to decide what money was, how much should be printed and circulated, and have complete control of the money? It’s called Power and Greed.
At the founding of this country, many different currencies circulated. The Continental, a fiat currency, went bust, as would be expected. Prior to the Constitution, private mints issued money. You could trade something for the gold and silver money, turn in gold or silver you mined to have coins minted, work for coins others had received, use the currency of others countries. There is no reason for government to issue money or regulate it or print it. The only control their should have is outlined in the Constitution, yet they ignore that and we’re in a mess.
For more information on this subject, I suggest going to the Mises Institute at mises.org.

Kelly Hamilton,
The “gathering storm” of really bad monetary policy actually started under Franklin Roosevelt when he took Americans off the gold standard. It accelerated under Nixon when he ended Bretton woods, not allowing other countries to take gold for trade debt. Fiat currency always ends in disaster. I suggest you read “The Creature from Jekyll Island” by G. Edward Griffin, for a full understanding of banking history.

Kelly, you clueless ” I see Red and I see Blue” programed drone.

The nation has been in decline for a long time at least since 1913 and began to accelerate rapidly under the criminal LBJ. The treasonous Bush tighten up the nuts and installed the remaining components of the police state and set the foundation for the tyranny of Obama and his batch of cretins to build on have set the stage for the next Puppets of Evil and Treachery to administration further and even greater authority, deprivation and oppression.

It’s not a president or a party that will ever change the course of the nation. It’s the universe of evil they work in and perpetuate that must be changed or rather destroyed to permit any change. This universe of evil or demonic system is called Corporatism or Fascism… the wicked rule of nations by the combination of Government, Corporations and Banks.

I had to start a fire this morning. I looked at the box of kitchen matches with the striker all gouged out and grabbed my firesteel (from firesteel.com I’m not related to them in any way but I really like their products) and tore a chunk off the piece of cotton that came in my last vitamin bottle. I strategically placed the cotton ball and had a fire going with one strike on the firesteel. Fire with less effort than fighting with the matches!

@Anonymous, Vic and Annie: Anon, you’re right on the nose. Nothing anyone can DO will solve the problem as it is now like the “Galactic Empire” of Asimov’s Foundation series. This one is negative in form as well and will happen no matter what or when. It is built into the cards already dealt!

Vic: Come back and comment more often. Just remember that both the currencies you mention were “printed” to fight wars. That’s what governments have done since “governments” were invented and it should not surprise anyone when our own does exactly the same thing. Different reason, perhaps, but the same bloody sorry ending.. Also, since you mentioned Mises, I’m sure you’ve read “Human Action”, right? If not, why not? It’s a LOT of work, that book. I moved to Texas from Alaska in 2005. Literally moved here with a 1997 F250, a few boxes, some guns, and a dog. Didn’t know a soul but had a job (reason for the move). Flat broke and the idiot bankers gave me a house on my word that I’d pay for it over 30 years – $60,000 – 850 sq ft – 1/2 acre at what at the time was the woods.

Closed on the house on 9/22/05

Hurricane Rita (eye passed right over the top of the town I live in) hit on 9/24/05

No power or water for 8 weeks.

Actually, I think on the chart were are just below the revelation. This election has a strong current that the people know that status quo no longer works. The traditional political parties no longer work. The Hillary presidency of scandal and corruption will provide the end of the status quo. I don’t see Bernie or Trump as the white knight. Hillary will win because she is the last candidate of the elite. Then her administration will be crippled by her war, graft and ineptness. Though the neo-cons will find a new home with her.

I also figured out how this election is going to play out and have described it from the beginning. My only regret is that I will not get to see a Trump/Bernie match up because, shit, that stuff is only available on pay-per-view.

Instead, we will see some lame ass trump vs Hillary. The bitch’s game plan is the same shit sugar ray and that other dude played, the rope a dope game. Trump being the great white dope.

Ol’ Hillary will float like a butterball and sting like a B. Maybe if we had Andres Cantor shouting ‘scooooooooooooooooore’ after every time she connected, it could make the debate pretty interesting.

Trump will wear himself out punching air trying to insult Hillary but that’s the thing about her, she has no moral sensibilities to offend and no male ego to shatter. Fuck!

I haven’t tackled “Human Action” yet because I’ve heard it’s a difficult read so I’ve put it off. I know Tom Woods has a book that is kind of a prerequisite for anyone wishing to tackle it. I’m hoping to get that one first to see what I’m in for. I’m currently putting my son through college and extra money isn’t always available, and although it would be nice to have, it’s not a priority at the moment. But I do read a lot on Mises.org and LewRockwell.com, which is actually how I found the Burning Platform, from one of the articles that he posted from this site. Sure glad he posted that article. because I love this site. Lots of like-minded people. 🙂

By the way, Annie, by son is going out with a girl similar to you. She can shoot, use a bow and arrow, fish, cook, and a she;s a good cook at that, according to my son, and she says she’s “wife material.” By the way, that’s a compliment to you. It’s also a complement to the girl. I’ve met her, they go to college together, and I think she’s great. And believe me, that’s a big complement to a girl coming from the guy’s mother.

IndenturedServant, that was so funny. That’s one thing I like about this site, everybody can laugh at things.
I’ve actually been a “lurker” for while. I seem to comment the most on religious issues because I’m what you would call a “Christian Libertarian,” God’s law with very little man-made law, and that law based on God’s law. 🙂

Very busy with a sick dog. We got hit in the face with the fact that we are incredibly attached to these Pyrs and when one almost died, we couldn’t bear to lose him.

So, since the vet said he could live but would have to be babied for a while, I have a new baby.

He’s walking again after a week.

I. Am. Here.

I’m not a big believer in sky spirits myself although I do acknowledge they may in fact exist and I don’t fault anyone for believing. I do know for damn certain that you will not find a path to your favorite sky spirit via organized religion. Organized religion is simply mankind’s original attempt at controlling and fleecing the masses prior to govt getting into the control and fleecing business.

Libertarianism is good but only meant for people who can govern themselves first and foremost. That is probably less than 1% of the population though. For better or worse we are always going to have da goobermint administering colonoscopies to us which might not be so bad if we can eradicate the scourge of central banking. Without them we have a fighting chance.

Welcome to the simian exhibit! Don’t be afraid to fling a little feces while you’re here and don’t run off if a little gets flung your way. It’s what we do!

Maggie, good luck with the pup! We’ve been going through hell keeping our little one going but so far so good. Admin and others offered a prayer so that may be the reason for her turn around but either way it’s a ton of work!

Today was breakthrough day with the J-dawg. After having held the Erlichnea tick bacterial infection at bay for a week with a series of seizures we mistakenly treated with Phenobarbitol and Valium for an emergency animal clinic’s diagnosis of epilepsy, the poor dog simply could not hold his head up any longer. He crawled to the corner of my recently tiled floor against my Mennonite custom-designed kitchen cabinets next to the log wall and collapsed, not moving for the rest of the day. He continued to sleep in the corner all afternoon and we decided to check on him through the night. My son, who was supposed to be packing for his summer internship near Mordor on the Potomac, panicked. He set his alarm for every thirty minutes and got up through the night to give the dog a few drops of water from a syringe and to swipe the lake of drool up with a towel. At about four a.m., the next morning he woke us up and asked us to take over. He had moved Jason away from the cabinets so that he could be surrounded by blankets and towels. The dog was semi-awake, reaching for the syringe of water with his tongue when Joey offered it. When I realized what he’d done to keep the dog alive, I knew that his father and I would be taking the dog to the animal hospital for whatever care he needed. We probably would have done so anyway, but Joey’s obvious devotion to the dog coupled with the fact he was going to his last summer job before leaving our home as a man forever next year cemented the action.

At 7:20 a.m., the receptionist at the County Vet where we take the dogs answered the phone and by 8:15, the vet was putting an IV into the puppy and settling him onto a table. She suggested we leave while they get him rehydrated and he began to come around. My son needed to go by the bank to get traveling cash (he’d already postponed the trip two days) so while he was there I snuck back over to the vet’s office and told her that I wanted her to know that we all knew the dog was critical. I told her that if the dog needed to be euthanized, we would do that. But, I told her that we would need her to tell our son she had done everything she could do for the dog. She called later that day and asked permission to run some tests. The next morning, she called to say that the Erlichnea tick disease that she’d seen traces of in his visit a month ago (and treated with a mild antibiotic) had returned with a vengeance and that she was stopping the treatment for epilepsy and putting him on a massive antibiotic to fight the bacteria.

The next day, he was better, but she didn’t want him excited. I played peeping tom at the back window of the hospital kennel and could see the dog laying on his stomach with his head in the air, drooling away, and was thrilled after having seen him prostrate in a puddle of his own saliva on my kitchen floor. The following day, she called and said she was concerned that the side he had been laying on might be getting bedsores, so he might have trouble walking. Our hearts really started hurting for that dog who practically did somersaults every time Nick would sneak out the door with his leash behind his back and pop it out as if he were a magician on Sesame Street… “Ta Da!!” Not walk? What would life be like for the J-dawg if he couldn’t walk or run figure 8s around our legs in the back yard with Jacob the other J-dawg. We refused to accept that, since everything about the dog screamed SURVIVOR to us since the day we met him. A scrawny malnourished Pyrenese who’d been rejected as a goat guardian at the ripe old age of 10 months and left to fend for himself in the wild. Taken in by friends whose tiny postage stamp back yard was too small for a Gentle Giant, our immediate response to their query was for them to bring him by our place to meet Jacob. After five minutes of posturing and fighting, the two J-dawgs started licking one another (dogs are disgusting, but it does seem to resolve a lot of fighting) and ran off to play. I turned to Bob and said “It looks like a match made in heaven” and in fact, I’ve quite often said that it was a Jerry McGuire You Complete Me moment. We named him the name Nick’s father mistakenly called our dog, Jacob, all the time and since my Pop-in-law’s short term memory loss was just another endearing feature we came to adore, Poppa G’s misnomer became the rescue dog’s name, Jason.

Everything was all packed for my son to go as soon as we returned from the vet. We had prepared ourselves as a family for the possibility that Jason might have to be put down. Nick and I privately agreed that we would, if necessary, tell Joey he was getting better when we were really just asking the vet to keep him stable until Joey got on the road. In the waiting room, they asked us to sit while they got the dog situated.

We were the only ones in the room. I looked at Nick, whom I could tell was worried.

“Situated doesn’t sound good, does it?” Nick said.

It wasn’t really a question. We were nervous about what we would see. After all, the last animal we’d seen was a dog licking drops of water off the end of my son’s earwax removal syringe. His thick fur had been soaked in saliva and other fluids we’ll just bleach away from our minds and hope we never have to clean up again. We had heard his weak whimpers when carried to the truck on a folded blanket as a stretcher. So, during the ride there, we had agreed that if it looked like there was no hope for the dog, we would not prolong his misery.

When they called us back and led us down the hallway to a room we hadn’t seen before (it turns out the veterinarians have certain rooms they just prefer to use. Kind of like a spare bedroom.) When the door opened and Jason was standing there and took two steps toward us before wobbling and settling onto the floor, I knew there was probably no way that dog was going to die. We told the vet that if the dog showed a will to fight, we wanted to give him the chance.

So, that’s what we have done. We brought him home last Thursday, the same day my son left for his job. He started in the kitchen on a mat so that he could see us all the time and we could hear him at night. We had a syringe to inject food into his stomach, if necessary. We did that once. I boiled him a free range chicken and started giving him the cooled broth as a supplement to water. By the end of the day, I added pureed meat and rice (which included his meds). The next day, he moved into the basement where he could go in and out the door to outside. We discovered Nick has a talent for making antibiotic laden meatballs. Today, I took him outside for his meatball and cereal (Nick calls the dry dog food their cereal in the morning… one of the husband-wife endearments that seem really silly until they aren’t) and he stayed outside. He followed me to the barn to feed and water the rabbits. Then, while I was in the barn, he went to the back yard and while I watched in awe, he slowly staggered across the yard to watch the chickens and rabbit cages from his favorite self-made crater in the shade of the trailer that sits inside the back yard fence just for that purpose.

I took him his own pan of cool water there in the shade. You gotta admire that.

I’ve been waiting for the collapse of leviathan for years now, but things just sort of chug along in a dystopian, meaningless way. It’s like the soul is literally being carved out of our being. Much as I’d love to finally be able say we told ya so, I worry we could just muddle along far longer than most think. Like a LOT longer. Maybe this thing keeps sucking on our souls for 50 to 100 yrs until we are all just fucking matrix drones. If TPTB can create 10s of trillions out of thin air to keep things afloat, why not 100s next time? To say it couldn’t be done seems arbitrary. Being sort of an anti-establishment revolutionary at heart, these have been hard times to live through without losing hope. Meanwhile I am the fool in my family for speaking of such things. It’s OK…I can handle the mockery. I read the book years ago and everything in it SEEMS to fit, but I worry there may be some curve fitting going on, i.e. confirmation bias. Is it possible the authors and readers are seeing what they WANT to see so as to validate their feelings / agenda (mine included)? At it’s core the book alleges to predict the future. As I’ve grown older I’ve become more and more skeptical of any such claim (but as well more and more aware of my own acute desire for the claims to be true). Don’t get me wrong, I’m on board that we are living in an insane world with imbalances that cannot go on forever. I’d love for the curve to fit. I DO hope that generationally this is the time for truth, justice, and all that jazz. But every day since 9-11 I open the browser look for truly real, the-jig-is-up news. There hasn’t been much. I regard the 2008 crisis then passage of TARP against the explicit will of 90% of the population to be a huge tell that exposed the behind the scenes game. Since then not much until the Trump candidacy which seems to reflect a sea change shift in sentiment. Just my 2 cents.

@Full Retard:

You’ve hit upon the single most-asked question in TBP’s history, and then you walk away from it, as if it were nothing?

If you’ve figured out who BW is, please, by all means, share it with the rest of here.

I think BW’s posts are ghostwritten by the same guy who writes as Fabulous. I suspect one guy in particular, but it ain’t time to decide for sure.

I could only make it thru like uh paragraph and uh half of that very long and tedious cry fer help. What was already dumb enough ter qualify as the most retarded interweb commentary in the history of TBP just dropped off uh cliff thanks ter yer way too long comment. Yer no Hardscramble Maggie, and good gawd, yer son sounds like uh total wuss. Hardscramble’s kids er out shovelin snow off roofs in the dead uh winter, and yer son is crying over uh dog with uh stomach ache? Maybe the dog purposefully ate rat poison just tryin ter git out of what sounds like uh fairly unhealthy living situation

PS did the dog die, cuz I would feel terrible pokin fun if he did, but I ain’t readin yer whole comment ter find out fer all the reasons listed above.
