Despite the Vote, the Odds Are Against Britain Leaving the EU

Guest Post by Paul Craig Roberts

The Brexit vote shows that a majority of the British voters understand that the UK government represents interests other than the interests of the British people. As difficult as the British know it is to hold their own government to account, they understand they have no prospect whatsoever of holding the EU government to account. During their time under the EU, the British have been reminded of historical times when law was the word of the sovereign.

The propagandists who comprise the Western political and media establishments succeeded in keeping the real issues out of public discussion and presenting the leave vote as racism. However, enough of the British people resisted the brainwashing and controlled debate to grasp the real issues: sovereignty, accountable government, financial independence, freedom from involvement in Washington’s wars and conflict with Russia.

The British people should not be so naive as to think that their vote settles the matter. The fight has only begun. Expect:

— The British government to come back to the people and say, look, the EU has given us a better deal. We can now afford to stay in.

— The Fed, ECB, BOJ, and NY hedge funds to pound the pound and to short British stocks in order to convince the British voters that their vote is sinking the economy.

— More emphasis on the vote’s weakening of Europe, leaving all to the mercy of “Russian aggression.”

— Hard to resist bribes (and threats) to prominent members of the leave majority and pressure on such leave leaders as Boris Johnson to be reasonable, concillatory and to maintain good relations with Washington and Europe, and to reach a compromise on remaining in the EU.

— Expect the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) to attribute the loss of British jobs and investment opportunities to the leave vote.

Once you learn to think about how things really are and not as the presstitutes present them,
you will be able to add to the list all by yourself.

Remember, the Irish voted against the EU and pressure was kept on them until they reversed their vote. This is the likely fate of the British.

Like I have said, the pound will be devalued and the Brits will be hammered until they yell uncle. The exit vote will mean nothing in the end except a vehicle for the usual suspect to make a killing.

My biggest fear is this will send Deutsche Bank over the cliff as it has been gasping last breaths for weeks and is on deathwatch.

Yes indeed. The usual suspects killed it. The pound will be and is being hammered. Easy money to be made doing it also. Though I won’t wager on it, deutschbank will be ‘preserved’. Tbtf.

It would take years to divest Britain from the eu. Years. During that process there will be ample opportunity to reverse the vote. They will beg to stay before it is over. You can’t imagine the financial pressure that will be heaped upon them. And winners will take profit all along the way. Real players do not lose.

The Brits are allowed out of the EU? No way, no how, never happen. Hell, they won’t let the Greeks leave! Watch for the Pound to go next. They will flood Britain with Euros and that will be that. As soon as all the immigrants and their little stores amp up the Euro cash and get people used to the colors, it will all be over. Game, set, match. Rue Brittania!

PCR just can’t stand it when there’s even a little bit of good news!! His cockmeter has to be pointing up at Full Doom 100% of the time. That’s intellectually dishonest.

Although I still enjoy some of his articles, I’m liking him less and less with each half-witted article he writes.

I totally agree stuck. You and muck are correct. Greece doesn’t have an economy
Britain does. Big difference. Also CPR is wrong. The Brits didn’t ignore the real issues when being called rascists. They embraced it. Okay, we’re rascists. So what? If i never see another african or muslim in my town, i’m good with that. And that’s how i’m going to vote. And they did.

I disagree and think the Brits will Briexit. If not, the House of Commons will have a large turnover in the next elections. The people have spoken and the damned EU has nothing to say about it. It will be easier for Brexit simply because they never used the euro — they still have the pound and all it takes is a recession and renegotiation of trade deals, pacts etc.

We’ll see if the politicos try and overturn the choice of the people. I think not..

PCR is no half wit.

You have to be realistic and accept the real world pressures that the Fed and Soros and thier ilk can put on this situation. The Brits will be hurting in the wallet when the heat is turned up.

If PCR tells you the truth from his lifetime of experience in politics and economics, it is rather lame to condemn him for being a downer. He has been a high level economist active in government.

The Fed and Soros may not have sufficient resources to bring to bear on the Brits and still have enough left to force the rest of the EU to stay together. It would be like dedicating your entire army to a single battle and having nothing left to fight the rest of the war.

The resolve of the British people in favor of the exit will determine the outcome now and there may not be enough of them to carry it through. The rest of EU powers and almost half of the British people will be working against them. Britain is now a house divided against itself.

Many things will be changing in the near future, both in the EU and in the rest of the world.

Sure, he has good “street cred”. He’s NOT a stupid man. Far from it. But, again, when one is “married” to a doom-and-gloom perspective — even when it is NOT warranted — then you lose credibility.

PCR article if Jeebus comes back a second time; — “Sure, Jesus is back. But, he’s just gonna get himself killed again.”

But it is you Stucky that declares it is not warranted, even as you are unable to grasp what is unfolding. In the weeks ahead you may feel different about this article. Are you the official hose man?

I wonder how much more Germany is going to need to cough up in tribute to the burEUROcrats in Brussels – to fund the various insolvent remaining members – now that the UK has bailed out?

I’ll bet it’s not a small number.

I think Germany is not going to have much of anything to cough up as they face the full costs of their immigration situation.

Col. Boyd’s ‘OODA Loop’ may be operative here. The elites’ response to events may be so sluggish that they ‘observe, orient, decide and act’ to events that are already past because the tempo has increased to the point where, like a boxer trying to react to a rain of punches and jabs that come so fast they seem like chaos, the ‘masters of the universe’ will not be able to react in time to avoid the knockout blow.

Our history books are littered with people would’ve been solid leaders in normal times become bywords for failure or irrelevance and the brilliant, unorthodox outsiders get their mugs on paper money and have statues commemorating them after the dust settles.

This comes to mind as I listen to the audiobook of Boris Johnson’s ‘The Churchill Factor.’ The likely next PM not only connects with Winston’s memory and with the times that thrust an old has-bin into the role of indispensable man, but, as I have been listening, I almost get the sense that he had Trump in mind in how he presents his protagonist. He almost certainly didn’t, but the feeling that Trump is in the subtext rarely leaves me.

Let the elites try to stop this. It’s like letting the ‘social justice warriors’ rear their ugle heads. It only helps us to know who the bad guys are as we get deeper into the fight.

If the Brits were the only ones trying to leave an otherwise strong and happy union, maybe the EU could screw with them like PCR suggests. But they’ve opened the floodgates – now that they’ve seen a successful vote, you can expect France, Italy, the Netherlands, and lots of others (maybe even parts of Spain) to do the same. The EU could deal with one dissenter, not several.
