There is no doubt it undermines them. Every action the government has taken in response to the economic crisis since 2008 has rewarded those who made bad decisions and punished those who have made good decisions. Of course, you end up with more of what the government incentivizes, so now we have more poor dependent on government handouts and more 0.1% dependent on siphoning wealth from the middle. In the middle are the poor schlubs with jobs, who pay their mortgages, try to save some of their earnings and raise their families. Every program has helped the first two groups and hurt the middle group. If the goal was to make the middle class extinct, I can’t think of much else they would’ve done differently.
