Question of the Day, Sep 21

Outside of bombing other countries, is there anything the government can do better than private citizens? Alternatively, what should be privatized?

Any government agency or office that delivers a good or service (think health, education, human b/s and welfare for example) should be powered down to the lowest level and reduce the number of staffs that touch said good or service for starters. Send the mission to the states along with funding required by law for the states to execute said legislation. Give the nuclear mission back to defense and close energy. Its gas and oil mission as imagined by Mr Peanut is a failure. Shrink it down and repeal Kennedy’s executive order allowing Federal Employees to unionize and take away the job for life entitlement…….Finally…end all the race, culture, gender, environment and all b/s pandering programs and get more work out of the staff……Restart the Fed CIv Serv test to weed out all the wizards too……..

Easy question. The federal government should run the federal courts to deal with disputes between private parties, not to make their own laws outside the Constitution. The feds should also maintain a defense force to protect us. But that defense force should not allowed to leave our country & territorial waters. In other words, they are for DEFENSE.

That would improve things a bit.

Mike, nothing should be privatized right now. Privatization is incompatible with QE. When the fed counterfeits that much money, the people with access to that unearned money can buy (privatize) everything availible. Ports, airports, highways, mineral and timber rights on public lands, parks, whatever the government chooses to sell, it won’t end up anywhere except owned by the banks who can borrow from the fed’s discount window at zero per cent. How does that help us? It might be hard to accept, but for the next few years, government has to be our friend, if anything is to be fixed.

Star,
you are correct but most people do not realize that privatization
confers ownership.

“…is there anything the government can do better than private citizens?”

I was gong to say: waste resources, whether it’s time, money, goods, etc.

Then, I thought of my ex.

Before government existed…….
Who built the roads?
Who built the schools?
Who fought the fires?
Who looked after the poor?
The people did!!

If you ever want to start some fun with a progressive just make a statement like “The government produces nothing of value.”

Oh yeah.

There is a wide gap between saying that something should be privatized but controlled by state funding and that something should be left to consenting, private individuals. You can ‘privatize’ just about anything the government does. Sometimes all it means is less accountability and more corruption. Think the prison system in the US.

In that sense nothing should be “privatized” but almost everything outside of defense and justice should be left in the realm of the private.

Francis, i agree with you, trust me, there is no guy wanting a tiny government than me. But look where we are. Corruption (money printing and suspension of the rule of law) has allowed a small group of criminals to take massive amounts of our wealth unjustly. Nothing can be fixed until they are smashed. Only a powerful government that aims to restore our constitutional republic can do that. It goes against small government, but it’s the only way back.

We will only need that “powerful” gov for a few months,
then we are back to defense. Do we need special Fed. judges?

When on earth has government ever scaled back its power and control? Be careful what you wish for. The truth is that government cannot be limited, especially with words on paper. It is a parasite and it feed until it kills the host. People who think it can be limited and controlled are delusional utopians.

To quote the immutable Walter Block – “If it moves, privatize it. If it doesn’t move, privatize it”. The fact is that anything that isn’t privately owned is collectively owned, aka socialism. The military, the police, the courts, even the Constitution itself, are all socialist in nature and are funded and implemented through theft and violence. Secondly, anything that is collectively owned and controlled will always be terrible and wasteful because they have a captured market and are only accountable only so far as to not get the controllers lynched, not to the mechanism of profit and loss. Fuck collectivism even when, especially when, it’s masquerading as patriotism.

Slayer, don’t be stupid. So you would rather Goldman sachs own a national park, instead of we the people? Now is not a good time for dogma.

Without government, Goldman Sachs wouldn’t even exist (well, at least in their current form). And I’d still much rather Goldman Sachs owned it than the government. By the way, “we” are not the government. That is an absurd claim used to delude gullible people into not realizing that they are slaves to the government and those who control it.

“We” are not the government. In fact, where government exists, you don’t own anything because you are actually the property of the government. If you weren’t, how else would they be able to lay claim to the fruits of your labor? The truth is the government owns everything and merely allows you to posses property. The belief that “we” are the government is a socialist claptrap used to delude people into thinking they are free when they most certainly aren’t. Why are you defending socialism?
