YGTBSM

This just in. George Washington University (GWU) has changed its course requirements for obtaining a history major to no longer include U.S. history. The university’s history department recently introduced new requirements with the stated aim of giving students greater flexibility to pursue their interests, and to “better reflect a globalizing world,” whatever that means. (In case you were interested, the annual tuition to this private Snowflake U. is $51,800. Great, Mommy and Daddy spend over $207,000 for their precious son or daughter to get a history degree that may completely exclude any deep historical knowledge of the country in which they live.)

In a case of stupendous irony, the namesake university of America’s greatest historical figure no longer requires its history students to learn about America’s greatest historical figure. And you simply cannot understand U.S. history, or even recent world history, without a sound knowledge of George Washington’s indispensable contributions to the founding of our Republic. So let me take you in a hopefully interesting direction to explain just how stupid, shallow and vapid the history department of GWU is.

And that direction starts and ends at Washington’s home at Mount Vernon, Virginia. The date is Tuesday, July 11, 1961. For the first and only time in U.S. history, a state dinner for a visiting foreign head of state is held outside of our nation’s capital, Washington D.C. (please take a guess for whom this city was named). The location of the state dinner is Mount Vernon. The guest is the President of Pakistan, Ayub Khan. The host is President John F. Kennedy, a man of soaring intellect and strong sense of history.

And whose idea was this totally unique state dinner? Some lady named Jackie, or more properly, Jacqueline. Like her husband, she too was very intelligent and had a love of history. And here comes the supreme irony. Drum roll, please. Jackie transferred from Vassar to George Washington University (!!!!!) and graduated from there with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1951. Now call up the kettle drums. During the early years of her marriage to then Senator Kennedy, she took continuing education classes in U.S. history (!!!!) at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

Does it get more ironic than that? Two of the most adored, lionized, well educated and respected members of America’s progressive political class clearly understood and paid respect to Washington and his legacy. Now, GWU wants its history students to skip all that and educate them on a “globalizing world.” That’s not education. It’s straight up propaganda. By omission.

Thus endeth my wrathful rant on the tunnel vision of GWU. If you’d like to read on, here are more fun facts about Mount Vernon.

The most frequent presidential visitor to Mount Vernon was FDR. Other presidents include John Adams, Jefferson, Jackson, Lincoln, and Teddy Roosevelt. On December 14, 1899, President William McKinley visited to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Washington’s death. Nearly every First Lady has visited, and yes, that includes Michelle Obama with her two daughters.

Hundreds of royalty – kings, queens, princes and princesses – from around the world have visited. The greatest number of members of a royal family have come from, more irony here, Great Britain. I love this fact. Washington was a legend in Great Britain (he still is) even during the Revolutionary War. His admirers included King George III, who almost certainly would have had Washington executed had he been captured by the British.

Members of many foreign military delegations have also visited. Not surprisingly, France’s armed forces lead the way, including General, and later President, Charles de Gaulle. Next is a surprise. It’s the armed forces from Japan, led by Emperor Hirohito.

The original independent power plant and lighting system for Mount Vernon was designed and personally inspected by Thomas Edison. I’ll drop two more names. Winston Churchill and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Ok, I’m done. I think I’ve made my point to everyone except the blockheads populating the history department at GWU.

GWU, which is ( like “American University” in DC) around 40% non-Americans in attendance. Georgetown University ( what’s up with our nations capital?) has the highest % of Islamic students in the country and actually advertises and gives scholarships to all Muslims. Howard University in DC is 95 to 97% black—so essentially, you go to school in DC for a faux-degree so you can get a faux-job working for the Federal Govt.
Appx 13 to 14% of Americans are of African descent, yet they make up over 40% of Federal Govt employees. You still wonder why the government is so incompetent and everything they touch gets screwed up fiscally and in function?
We pay over 100,000 of these idiots 6 figure salaries to do pointless jobs–and do them poorly.

I imagine dropping the basics of a real education gives the marketing department of GWU a broader population of students with the requisite surplus of money to keep the cash flow positive. The students after all our viewed as customers, and ya gotta keep the customers happy.

Hey John, yes, you nailed it!

In the ancient days, college was restricted to the top 5% or 10%, and course difficulty was geared for that level of intelligence. Now that colleges sell the mere illusion of education (as opposed to actual education) they have opened their market to all but perhaps the bottom 5% or 10%.

Why the change? As you say, the colleges wanted to increase the number of paying customers — and they did! But the only reason why that worked is because Uncle Sam stepped in and began to promote college loans for pretty much anyone with a heartbeat. If students were forced to pay a true market cost for their loans, the poorly qualified students would be priced out of the market. Banks would not be willing to loan money to those who showed no real chance of benefiting from college and thus repaying their loans.

You see the same thing over and over and over… The gummint swears they are going to make the world better by handing out free candy. What happens is that the recipients get cavities and diabetes, and the productive few get to pay for candy, dentists and endocrinologists.

Eh, never mind. If idiots want to spend their money and get nothing of value, then that is better for other students who get to enter a job market that will welcome them with JOB OPPORTUNITIES. The rest can flip burgers, or something, until they get replaced by a robot.

No, but that’s not taking the current meddling of modern day Israel into US foreign and domestic affairs either.Especially in the area of fomenting constant and costly war between the US and the enemies of Israel in MENA.

http://voxday.blogspot.com/2015/06/transcript-available.html

VOX: Speaking of the US, I am curious to know what the general opinion in Israel is of the American neocons who, like you said, have been trying to overthrow Assad. They have overturned the Ukrainian government, the Libyan government, the Iraqi government, etc. What is the general view of the neocons in Israel?

MVC: Oh, we love them. The Israelis are very happy to fight the Arabs and the Iranians with American blood. During the first Gulf War, Israel was then under Yitzhak Shamir and did whatever it could to encourage an American invasion of Iraq. I wouldn’t say that this was decisive but they tried. It was the same when the Americans invaded Iraq for the second time. It was the same when Americans clashed with Iran over nuclear weapons. Each time you can see this very consistently. You can see the Israeli Right and, to some extent, even the Left say okay, this is lovely, we are going to let the Americans put the chestnuts in the fire for us.

Myself, I must say, that I dislike this policy very much. But certainly most Israelis like it. They like to be on the side of the strong as I see it. They push America as much as they can into these ventures. Just today I saw a famous t-shirt that says “Don’t worry America, Israel is behind you.” I also know that some Americans, like Pat Buchanan, have been writing that these lousy Israelis have been trying to use American for their own purposes and have unfortunately they have succeeded. So, personally I am not happy about this policy. I think that it may well one day act as a boomerang.

VOX: Do you think it is bad for Israel to be dependent in that way?

MVC: Yes, because, as we say in Hebrew, “the one who’s got the money has the say.” It’s bad in several ways, it is bad in the sense that we are tilting too much in the Republican direction. That is a bad thing in my view. It’s not bipartisan. There is a danger that one day support for Israel will probably fade and people will say enough of this. They will say Israelis are exploiting us with American-Jewish help. They are exploiting us for their own purposes. Let them go and fight their own wars. I have been warned more than once by my American friends that this is one day going to happen. It hasn’t happened yet but it is going to happen one day and it worries me. Frankly, it worries me.

VOX: Yeah, you don’t want to use your allies on a war that you don’t need and then not have their support when you actually need it.

MVC: Exactly.

John Adams to James Sullivan
26 May 1776Papers 4:208–12

Society can be governed only by general Rules. Government cannot accommodate itself to every particular Case, as it happens, nor to the Circumstances of particular Persons. It must establish general, comprehensive Regulations for Cases and Persons. The only Question is, which general Rule, will accommodate most Cases and most Persons.

Depend upon it, sir, it is dangerous to open So fruitfull a Source of Controversy and Altercation, as would be opened by attempting to alter the Qualifications of Voters. There will be no End of it. New Claims will arise. Women will demand a Vote. Lads from 12 to 21 will think their Rights not enough attended to, and every Man, who has not a Farthing, will demand an equal Voice with any other in all Acts of State. It tends to confound and destroy all Distinctions, and prostrate all Ranks, to one common Levell.

Irrelevant my ass. Are you going to make the ridiculous claim that the CIA had nothing to do with the growth fomentation of cultural Marxism in modern academia…really?

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/modern-art-was-cia-weapon-1578808.html

To pursue its underground interest in America’s lefty avant-garde, the CIA had to be sure its patronage could not be discovered. “Matters of this sort could only have been done at two or three removes,” Mr Jameson explained, “so that there wouldn’t be any question of having to clear Jackson Pollock, for example, or do anything that would involve these people in the organisation. And it couldn’t have been any closer, because most of them were people who had very little respect for the government, in particular, and certainly none for the CIA. If you had to use people who considered themselves one way or another to be closer to Moscow than to Washington, well, so much the better perhaps.”

Despite her evil ways, he is devoted to her and firmly believes in the “for better or worse, in sickness and in health” bit so knowing that she is in a quality, long term care facility before he passes will help him tremendously. The drama created during the latter by my two sisters, each jealous of the other and both vying for control over my mother prompted her to choose one sides which led to total internecine war. The family will never recoup from this and I and my mother exchanged bitter words that could never be taken back over this drama bitch theatre and all because sibling rivalry. Understood. I won’t be doing battle with mom purely out of respect for my father (he raised me that way) and because there is absolutely no point. It would be like trying to pick up a turd by the clean end. I’ve got better things to do.

One of the neat things about his (their) family trust is a provision that all family is aware of which states that if anyone contests any provision of the trust, which includes who gets what, that person gets absolutely nothing. Each family member received a copy of this trust provision when the trust was established. Fortunately there is no brewing dispute over anything among family. Except for a few small trinkets everything will be sold and all existing monies will be added to those proceeds and used to care for my mother in the same manner my father would have if he were able.

Despite my mother’s stroke induced vascular dementia, she was a great mother when it counted most during our formative years and both she and my father raised us right so there is nothing to really quibble about anyway.

I’m sorry that such drama resulted during your mother’s passing. That is yet another reason why I encourage EVERYONE to set up a living trust and inform all family members of it and all pertinent provisions it contains before your health or life ends. It can buy a lot of peace of mind during a stressful time. I’m stressed enough just trying to get my head around all the loose ends and moving forward with setting up care for my mother. If I had to deal with a family war I’d probably kill somebody! Setting up a trust only costs about $1500-$2000 and includes all legal docs you’ll need for property, medical records, medical care and living wills and the estate can avoid probate.
