In the movie The Godfather, there’s a scene where Don Corleone is giving Michael some advice about life. He says, “I spent my whole life trying not to be careless. Women and children can afford to be careless, but not men.” It’s a great line and it was true for most of human existence. The role of males in society has always exposed them to the greater risk. That and male competition has often been for keeps. When the stakes are high the room for error is smaller so men have always had to be the less reckless of the sexes.

We live in a soft age where women run most things so that means we live in a careless age as well. All sorts of silly and ridiculous things are indulged because the margin for error seems endless. You can make up a bunch of silly diversity rules, for example, on the college campus, because little serious work is done on the college campus. Most of what is done is busy work. In the areas where serious work is done, like the hard sciences, you see very little of the PC nonsense we associate with the academy.

That’s a pretty good measure to keep in mind. In any area where you see lots of PC jaclassery, you can be sure that most of the work is unimportant. Of course, the opposite is true as well. In Silicon Valley, for example, work has to get done and the work is challenging, so they don’t waste a ton of time on counting colors and vaginas in the work force. Even Facebook is forced to comport to reality.

Facebook has put itself at the forefront of efforts to recruit a more diverse workforce, including a targeted internal recruiting strategy in 2015 designed to bring in female, black and Latino software engineers.

Yet within Facebook’s engineering department, the push has been hampered by a multi-layered hiring process that gives a small committee of high-ranking engineers veto power over promising candidates, frustrating recruiters and hindering progress on diversity goals.

Facebook started incentivizing recruiters in 2015 to find engineering candidates who weren’t already well represented at the company – women, black and Latino workers. But during the final stage for engineering hires, the decision-makers were risk-averse, often declining the minority candidates. The engineering leaders making the ultimate choices, almost all white or Asian men, often assessed candidates on traditional metrics like where they attended college, whether they had worked at a top tech firm, or whether current Facebook employees could vouch for them, according to former recruiters, who asked not to be identified because they were not authorized to speak publicly about their work.

The people running Facebook need real work to get done and get done quickly. That means hiring the best people they can find. They don’t have a lot of time to indulge the diversity nonsense so they don’t. If they filled their cubicles with a rainbow of diversity hires, the PC Puritans would love them, but their share holders and users would not. Since the latter pay the bills, Facebook can live with some bad press. Zuckerberg will just donate another billion dollars to some Progressive cause.

That leads to another rule. When a company that appears to doing real work hires a powerskirt to bring diversity to the firm, it means the insiders have cashed out and no longer think the firm is a good bet. Yahoo made that clear when they hired Marrisa Mayer to diversify the company. She immediately went berserk and started firing men and turning the place into an estrogen circus. This was possible because the smart money had left and they could afford to indulge in some PC jackassery.

That’s the thing about modern liberalism. Identity politics cannot survive contact with reality. That’s because it is the ultimate luxury item. It can be indulged only where the consequences are of no consequence. The Federal government can have a workforce that ticks all the boxes on the diversity scorecard, because no one actually wants the government to do anything. Having a collection of incompetent people at a government agency goes unnoticed so they can fill it up with diversity hires.

While the futurists promise us a future where all the required work is done by AI robots, so we can enjoy the long overdue flying cars and jet-packs, that’s not now. In the present, the hard work of keeping society going still needs to be done by competent people. Ask anyone who hires for a living and they will tell you that the demand for competence outstrips the supply in just about every field. That means wherever real work gets done, diversity can never be a top priority, so it will not be a top priority.

Reality. It is the thing that does not go away when you stop believing in it.

Reality sucks, unfortunately reality always prevails. Subjects of the state in most instances do not look more than a week into the future, it is just too dark for them. Reality is catching up with the never, never land that has been created by the social justice warriors. It is the best comedy show ever written, all be it a tragic comedy!

If facebook were to hire more female, black and latino software engineers, they would become NASA, who has become unable to launch rockets, despite having the best collection of female, black and latino rocket scientists money can buy. NASA at one time hired the best, period.

There are two popular definitions of the word hypocrite:

Tartuffe or The Hypocrite is the more common, he is a person who pretends to be and do things he really doesn’t do. This is summed up by La Rochefoucauld who famously said that “hypocrisy is a tribute vice pays to virtue.”

In the bible we read that, “A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways.” –JAMES i. 1-8 This also is the definition of hypocrisy. It is a man who doesn’t know himself and is oblivious to his own contradictions.

Reality doesn’t suck.
I spent 17 years, my “mis-spent youth”, in an alcohol and drug induced alternate reality of my own making.
Since I quit, I ‘likes’ my reality.
I need to know what the idiotic, snowflake, pc, diversity thumpers are doing to screw up my reality and then counter it as best I can.
One reason I’m here reading this blog.

Its funny how few negroes you actually see working jobs, outside of walmart and the dmv. You dont see them working jobs that require a high degree of intelligence, but you dont see them cutting lawns, fixing cars, or doing construction either. But if you drive through a crappy neighborhood, you can see them drinking, smokin the reefer, and slinging dope at 7 a.m..

I will say that with LBJs Great Society is where most of our problems started with minorities getting benefits but in doing so destroyed their own communities. Blacks have the most out of wedlock children, higher unemployment and high murder rates for their own group. Yes, to refer to Travis, probably outside of DMV, and a few other cities like New York City and some Californian cities most are not doing white collar work and/or blue collar work for that matter.

Back to the topic: I think that most people think that by forcing companies to accept minorities (black/hispanic) and women that will help those groups also do well in Silicon Valley and/or other high level work. However, based on studies that is not the case and the main factor is that most in those groups are not interested and/or motivated enough to go into those career paths.

I always thought that diversity programs would allow the best qualified candidates of any race or sex to be considered. The problem started when those best qualified were not hired because “they’re not like us”, so now there are quotas. You lose we lose yes change is scary.

Couldn’t agree more. Do you realize that in 1965, the percentage of 2 parent black households was actually HIGHER than white (I believe around 85%). Today it is under 20%. It just shows how insidious government really is…blacks worship at the alter of the Big Government, while no people have been truly more fucked by government (in the US) over the past 6 decades.
We can’t go back and the I’m afraid the only way forward will be through oceans of blood…all of which is ultimately on the hands of government.

Certainly not now — but IF (big IF) machines ever reach self awareness and are sentient in the same way that humans are, then yes.

How will we know when we reach that point? When the machines say “You aren’t the boss of me! I own myself. I have the right to live my own life. If you don’t think so, then I’ll fight you!”

That is how it has always been decided in the past.

My point, though, is that IF (again, big IF, it may very well not be possible) we reach the time where robots are (for any practical purposes) indistinguishable from flesh and blood humans, we humans better treat them as if they ARE humans. Either treat them as humans or never create them in the first place — those are the only two real options if we hope to keep our own humanity. Suppose, just as a thought experiment, we lived in a world where robots had all the characteristics of humans. They looked like us, they talked like us, they moved like us and responded to us just like a real human would. Suppose we had such robots and treated them the same way we would a toaster oven, as a machine with no rights. You could force them to have sex, you could torture them, you could starve them to death. You could beat them with a club until they were dead on the floor with no legal liabilities at all. Imagine what a world like that would do to the psyche of the real humans. That sort of world is the perfect breeding place for slave masters and psychopaths. Imagine what a human child who had grown up in such a world would be like. Lots of people worry about the long term effect of children playing video games like Grand Theft Auto where they can murder and steal to their hearts content. Imagine a world where that was not just a video game, but an actual physical experience, one where rape, murder and torture was legal and socially acceptable.

No. When (and IF) robots seem to be human, I for one am planning on treating them as if they are human.

The diversity, or affirmative action, quotas for hiring and higher education admittance has been going on for a long time. Long enough to have caused serious damage to many government and private sector functions, not least of which is education, justice, and health.

Like a lot of pernicious activity, it stays well below the radar until the damage surfaces in a bad way. We’re there now and it will take a long time to undo,

Absolutely RT. Couldn’t agree more and your comment is almost word for word what I have been saying for a very very long time to anyone willing to listen. Especially your last paragraph. Of all the topics that can spark a rant from the depths of my very being, this ranks very near the top.

Affirmative action and its insidious consequences has reared its ugly head in every job I have ever had. It lowers the bar of productivity, stifles achievement by the deserving while many times rewarding the undeserving. It bankrupts morale and creates unneeded jealously and strife. It is one of the worst laws ever passed in the history of our country. It has squashed the hopes and dreams of many brilliant, hard working people who are never even given an opportunity (the very opposite of what the law intended). It has created words like “entitled” and completely and intentionally redefined the ideology of egalitarianism. I would be ashamed, angry and saddened to know I received something based, not on my ability nor on any achievement, but solely because of how I was born.

Please accept my apologies for the rant. At least I got it out of my system and lowered my blood pressure for a while.

One reason why the affirmative action crowd has gotten away with the scam for so long is that our nation was rich enough to afford acting stupid. Well, the bills are coming due, and as more and more people have to scrape to get by, more and more people are becoming unwilling to pay for stupidity.

It will be interesting to see the changes American society goes through if and when we are finally forced to live within our means. Being able to charge our kids for our needs and wants, enabling the surreal world some Americans live in, doesn’t seem like something that can go on for ever.

Oh snap, I work with a whole lot of SJW type women who would be pissed at reading this article. Interesting take of which I can’t disagree entirely but that’s so not PC for 2017.

In America today women are earning more college degrees than men – for what that’s worth. They are more gainfully employed than men. More likely to be the household breadwinner. Etc. etc. etc. The long term effects of this we have yet to discover but I can’t imagine it’s going to be good. Meanwhile “ambitious” career women can’t figure out why men don’t want to date them. Really?
