Coyote, that picture reminds me of all the shows from the early 60’s that idealized teh white, post-war nuclear family. Leave it to beaver, father knows best, ozzie and harriet, etc. Of course it was all bullshit. Our ww2 vet dads had PTSD, they just hadn’t thought of things like that. They cheated on their wives, abused their kids, psychologically and/or otherwise and in other ways were just fucked up. The whole hypocracy of the period directly resulted first in the Beats and later with the counter culture. It led us to get stoned, after all the music was great and we weren’t supposed to do it, so why not? Also from my experience for whatever their flaws, boomers were excellent parents because we knew what it was like to be from a dysfunctional family and wanted to be different. I know I am not alone when I say that I cannot remember a single time when my greatest generation ww2 hero father told me he loved me. No, he too fucked up for that, but by god the lawn was always neatly trimmed.
Fuck all that shit. Looking back if there had been any black girls to date when I was in high school in Oregon I would have done it if for no other reason just to piss them off. Instead I became a libertarian and peacenik. It must have been right for me because it stuck.
We grew up with those images imprinted in our brain. Then I looked around and saw things were so much different. I was not surrounded by these kinds of families. Even the Mexican families were different from my own. I kept hearing of racism, cannon fodder, draft deferments, privilege, CCR sang of senator’s sons.
Those that want to go back to Mayberry are too young to know such places only exist in the ether of the depression when things were simple because there was no money for extravagance. Yearning for simpler times requires a singular cataclysm to bring the modern back to the horse and buggy days.
Hitler’s bungle began with such a fanciful notion that paradise could be attained with a few governmental diktats. Delusional morans think instigating a race war will facilitate such a government, with the right ruler, paradise could be theirs while the blacks and browns are deported to a homeland far away.
My father used to work for a company that covered all states west of the Mississippi and he would have swag made up with the company logo and contact info. One item was a very nice refillable electronic cigarette lighter. He noticed right away that the mormons wouldn’t accept them so he made the next batch with three added words on the side opposite the logo. “Fire Storage Device” He never had a problem giving away those cigarette lighters after that.
There are many families like this throughout the country….more than the clowns in Boston or Silly Putty Valley would care to imagine. They just don’t waste their time whining about their problems.

I’m 65, have traveled all over the US, and have lived for at least awhile in 7 different states, and I’ve never seen a family of any color that remotely resembles the cartoon drawing that illustrates the post. Where in Leave it to Beaver Land would you find a family like that?
About 30 years ago, I lived in an apartment. The apartment next door was leased or owned, IDK, by the CJCLDS and used to house their young missionaries, two young women at a time. The occupants changed fairl regularly.
The young men, known as “elders” came over sometimes to visit the “sisters” as the young women were called. They were always polite and never tried to convert the neighbors, the elders went out with their bicycles and went door to door in other neighborhoods, but I don’t know what the sisters did as their mission.
When the boys came to visit the girls, the front door remained open and all four kids stayed in the living room visible from the open door; all very proper, y’know.
I was told by someone who isn’t a Mormon that these missions had little to do with actual proselytization and were aimed instead at making the young missionaries closer to the church by putting them among strangers with other missionaries as their only fellow mormons.
Those kids did dress and act like somebody from Leave it to Beaver land.
Do you mean the clothes? Because I can attest to the fact that my entire extended family looks like this other than the clothes. We are white families with white children with no transgender members or divorced members. Every family is productive and tax-paying. And none of us live in Utah or are Mormon. I can also attest to the fact that almost every one my white elementary and high school friends I’ve connected with on FB are married with white children none of whom as of now are transgender. This is not unusual the media just likes to make it seem as if married, two-parent families with functional mentally healthy members are rare.

Notice the slender mom in a dress she sewed herself out of a pattern, dad is wearing his work uniform, the kids are wearing jeans or shorts. Later, they will be watching Lawrence Welk. America never had it so good and probably never will again if it ever did.
