Colleges: Islands of Intolerance

Guest Post by Walter E. Williams

Is there no limit to the level of disgusting behavior on college campuses that parents, taxpayers, donors and legislators will accept? Colleges have become islands of intolerance, and as with fish, the rot begins at the head. Let’s examine some recent episodes representative of a general trend and ask ourselves why we should tolerate it plus pay for it.

Students at Evergreen State College harassed biology professor Bret Weinstein because he refused to leave campus, challenging the school’s decision to ask white people to leave campus for a day of diversity programming. The profanity-laced threats against the faculty and president can be seen on a YouTube video titled “Student takeover of Evergreen State College.”

What about administrators permitting students to conduct racially segregated graduation ceremonies, which many colleges have done, including Ivy League ones such as Columbia and Harvard universities? Permitting racially segregated graduation ceremonies makes a mockery of the idols of diversity, multiculturalism and inclusion, which so many college administrators worship. Or is tribalism part and parcel of diversity?

Trinity College sociology professor Johnny Eric Williams recently called white people “inhuman assholes.” In the wake of the Alexandria, Virginia, shooting at a congressional baseball practice, Williams tweeted, “It is past time for the racially oppressed to do what people who believe themselves to be ‘white’ will not do, put (an) end to the vectors of their destructive mythology of whiteness and their white supremacy system. #LetThemF—ingDie”

June Chu, dean of Pierson College at Yale University, recently resigned after having been placed on leave because of offensive Yelp reviews she had posted. One of her reviews described customers at a local restaurant as “white trash” and “low class folk”; another review praised a movie theater for its lack of “sketchy crowds.” In another review of a movie theater, she complained about the “barely educated morons trying to manage snack orders for the obese.”

Harvey Mansfield, a distinguished Harvard University professor who has taught at the school for 55 years, is not hopeful about the future of American universities. In a College Fix interview, Mansfield said, “No, I’m not very optimistic about the future of higher education, at least in the form it is now with universities under the control of politically correct faculties and administrators.” Once America’s pride, universities, he says, are no longer a marketplace of ideas or bastions of free speech. Universities have become “bubbles of decadent liberalism” that teach students to look for offense when first examining an idea.

Who is to blame for the decline of American universities? Mansfield argues that it is a combination of administrators, students and faculties. He puts most of the blame on faculty members, some of whom are cowed by deans and presidents who don’t want their professors to make trouble. I agree with Mansfield’s assessment in part. Many university faculty members are hostile to free speech and open questioning of ideas. A large portion of today’s faculty and administrators were once the hippies of the 1960s, and many have contempt for the U.S. Constitution and the values of personal liberty. The primary blame for the incivility and downright stupidity we see on university campuses lies with the universities’ trustees. Every board of trustees has fiduciary responsibility for the governance of a university, shaping its broad policies. Unfortunately, most trustees are wealthy businessmen who are busy and aren’t interested in spending time on university matters. They become trustees for the prestige it brings, and as such, they are little more than yes men for the university president and provost. If trustees want better knowledge about university goings-on, they should hire a campus ombudsman who is independent of the administration and accountable only to the board of trustees.

The university malaise reflects a larger societal problem. Mansfield says culture used to mean refinement. Today, he says, it “just means the way a society happens to think, and there’s no value judgment in it any longer.” For many of today’s Americans, one cultural value is just as good as another.

I didn’t know anything about Evergreen State College then I found this on Wikipedia:

“The Evergreen State College is a regionally accredited public liberal arts college and a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges, located in Olympia, Washington, US. Founded in 1967, Evergreen was formed to be an experimental and non-traditional college. Full-time students enroll in interdisciplinary academic programs instead of classes. Programs typically offer students the opportunity to study several disciplines in a coordinated manner. Faculty write narrative evaluations of students’ work in place of issuing grades.”

In short it’s a liberal cluster-fuck that calls itself a learning institution.

Yeah, anyone talking about Evergreen is wasting his time.

The bottom line is Colleges are selling a 100 year old product that is horribly over priced and doesn’t work anymore. So it’s mainly morphed in to 4 more years of High School and partys, while the ‘students’ (who can’t plan for next week) borrow huge sums, to keep the party going.

Remember the Beatles lyric: Out of college, money spent, see no future, pay no rent….. And they wrote that 50 years ago.

I think calling it a cluster fuck is an insult to cluster fucks.
I participated in some pretty effective cluster fucks in the Marines. Not pretty, but effective.
Those assholes couldn’t hold a Chinese fire drill in a parking lot full of folding chairs.

Colleges today are pretty much in line with fascism. I mean think about it; they say pay us $150,000 in books, tuition, fees, parking tickets, functions etc over a 4-8 year period and we will give you your ticket, er diploma, so you can show that there corporation you are ready and willing to be a sheeple slave for them, for meager pay, for the rest of your life. I would rather my kids own their own pressure washing business and grow it to make $300k year and enjoy life and remain awake as a Sheepdog…..vs getting mind fucked by these libtards and breeding my grandkids into that sheep pen…..

Most young people aren’t capable of running a profitable business. That’s a false dichotomy. Getting a decent job is the best that most can aspire to.

They have very low admissions standards to take just about anybody. All of these schools are after “free money” from US govt issued student loans! They all are! It’s a giant scam. Many to most of the students don’t even belong in college at all. And it shows by their behavior and ridiculous ideas. Most of this intolerance is centered with black and Hispanic kids — many who shouldn’t even be there except for government largesse.

Trump is right (again), we need vocational schools for the 50% of minorities (and the 20 to 30% of white kids) who are not qualified for college.

Remember when all these loans are bailed-out, it’ll be disproportionally benefit the black kids who are taking advantage of the seemingly “free money”. Most of these kids will never pay back a penny of their loans.

One of the most rapidly depreciating assets in the U.S. is the liberal arts college degree, and it doesn’t matter if it’s Williams, Amherst, Middlebury, or Tumbleweed College. Pretty pricey for a participation tropy.

It’s bad enough to waste four years of a young life on stupid shit like gender and ethnic studies. It is moronic to borrow money to finance that degree.

Depends how much you borrow and what else you’d have been doing during those years. Most 19 year olds aren’t starting Microsoft- or even a house painting business. Most young people who eschew college do so because they’re too lazy to pursue it and would rather wait tables at Buffalo Wild Wings since it provides them quicker cash to buy weed and rent an apartment to smoke the weed in. If you get out of college at 22 it shows a few things that are seemingly unimpressive – but are actually rarities: you’re probably not a total idiot, you can do work (at least enough to pass some classes) and you have at least a minimal capacity for delaying gratification. If you also owe $25k in student loans, big deal. Better than if you’d borrowed $25k for a car, let your insurance lapse and totaled it.

I remember well (’bout nearly half a century now) when my Ivy alma mater’s president used university funds to send his plane to NYC to pick up some African musical instruments demanded by the then-fledgling black activist group. The trustees rose to the occasion and we soon had a new president. Those were the days!

” African musical instruments ” – do you mean two sticks? or do you mean Glocks with plenty of ammo?

Just a matter of time until some cop gets isolated, jammed up and empties a mag into some of these kids. Sad thing is they’re being led there by people that want to see just such a thing occur.

Frankly, could there be greater pleasure than watching a red mist bloat gently across a college campus after a cop just finished emptying twenty-five thirty round clips into a crowd of these taxpayer funded Neanderthals? Let the ungrateful bastardized retards go to hell and party till they puke!

I truly believe most of those attending college today and their parents are lemmings. Everyone is going over that cliff so we must too. Cost, future opportunities, learning – be damned. The main thing is keeping up with the Joneses and maintaining status in their little cliques. Even though getting a skill such as becoming an electrician, mechanic, plumber, etc would support a fairly comfortable life, we can’t let little Johnny or Susie do that. What would our neighbors and friends think? And our status at the Christmas parties and Super Bowl parties would plummet. Shallow, stupid, vapid thinking. Soon the Piper will have to be paid but unfortunately, all of society will bear the cost.

Anyone else see the idiotic irony in a “day of diversity” but force white people to leave. Seems more like a “day of white discrimination”. These idiots are truly dumb as a beetle. What they call diversity is racist and discriminative but white guilt has allowed them to change the definitions based on who is doing the discriminating……self destructive whites will soon pay a terrible price if history is a lesson. This never ends well…..

Would love to see those calling for the end of whites live without using products created by whites.
