Senator Graham: Trump Is Prepared To Strike; “There Is A Military Option To Destroy North Korea”

Tyler Durden's picture

Appearing on the Today Show earlier this morning, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said that President Trump has indicated to him that the administration is prepared to strike North Korea to prevent an attack against the U.S.  Pushed on by Matt Lauer on whether a viable military option exists in the region, Graham responded: “They’re wrong.  There is a military option to destroy North Korea’s program and North Korea itself.”

“They’re wrong.  There is a military option to destroy North Korea’s program and North Korea itself.  If there’s going to be a war to stop him [Kim Jong Un], it will be over there. If thousands die, they’re going to die over there, they’re not going to die here and he’s [Trump] told me that to my face.”

“And that may be provocative, but not really. When you’re president of the United States, where does your allegiance lie? To the people of the United States. This man, Kim Jong Un, is threatening America with a nuclear tip missile. President Trump doesn’t want a war, the Chinese can stop this, but to China, South Korea, and Japan, Donald Trump is not going to allow this missile.”

“I’m saying it’s inevitable unless North Korea changes because you’re making our president pick between regional stability and homeland security. He’s having to make a choice that no president wants to make.  You can stop North Korea militarily or diplomatically, I prefer the diplomatic approach. But they will not be allowed to have a missile to hit America with a nuclear weapon on top and to allow them to do that is really abandoning homeland security.”

Of course, North Korea tested a second ICBM over the weekend which prompted the following statement from President Trump:

“North Korea’s test launch today of another intercontinental bassistic missile – the second such test in less than a month – is only the latest reckless and dangerous action by the North Korean regime.  The United States condemns this test and rejects the regime’s claim that these tests – and these weapons – ensure North Korea’s security.  In reality, they have the opposite effect.  By threatening the world, these weapons and tests further isolate North Korea, weaken its economy, and deprive it’s people.  The United States will take all necessary steps to ensure the security of the American homeland and protect our allies in the region.”

* * *

For those who missed it, below is our note on NK’s latest launch.

While North Korea has test fired numerous ballistic missiles (mostly intermediate-range, including one intercontinental) in the past, and as such today’s launch was largely seen as merely the latest political provocation to Trump by a seemingly oblivious Kim John-Un, there was one notable difference in the launch post-mortem: according to press and Pentagon reports, the maximum altitude attained by the ICBM was 3,700 km (2,300 miles) with a flight time of about 47 minutes. This is material because according to All Things Nuclear, based on the latest information, today’s missile test by North Korea could easily reach not only the US West Coast, but also a number of major US cities.

As reported earlier, North Korea launched its missile on a very highly lofted trajectory, which allowed the missile to fall in the Sea of Japan rather than overflying Japan. It appears the ground range of the test was around 1,000 km (600 miles), which put it in or close to Japanese territorial waters.

According to physicist and co-director of the UCS Global Security Program, David Wright, if those numbers are correct, then the missile flown on a standard trajectory would have a range 10,400 km (6,500 miles), not taking into account the Earth’s rotation. Adding the rotation of the Earth increases the range of missiles fired eastward, depending on their direction. Calculating the range of the missile in the direction of some major US cities gives the approximate results in Table 1.

Table 1 shows that Los Angeles, Denver, and Chicago appear to be well within range of this missile, and that Boston and New York may be just within range. Washington, D.C. may be just out of range.

Wright caveats his calculations saying that “it is important to keep in mind that we do not know the mass of the payload the missile carried on this test. If it was lighter than the actual warhead the missile would carry, the ranges would be shorter than those estimated above.”

While the above calculation has yet to be confirmed by third parties, the US is not taking any chances. According to Reuters, top U.S. and South Korean military officials “discussed military options after North Korea launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on Friday.”

Marine General Joseph Dunford was joined by the Commander of U.S. Pacific Command, Admiral Harry Harris, when they called General Lee Sun-jin, chairman of the South Korean Joint Chief of Staff. “During the call Dunford and Harris expressed the ironclad commitment to the U.S.-Republic of Korea alliance. The three leaders also discussed military response options,” said Captain Greg Hicks, a spokesman for Dunford.

In light of North Korea’s reportedly expanded offensive capabilities, now that the US has an justification to launch a preemptive “defensive” attack on Pyongyang, a US military operation in North Korea now appears to be only a matter of time.

The phrase “homeland security” makes me want to puke. The “homeland” the preachers of “security” are describing isn’t the USA: it’s to be found in their wallets, purses and most of all in the mirror, the same mirror that I’m beginning to believe is Pres. Trump´s worst enemy and by default that of the nation as a whole. DJT seems to be “draining the swamp” with a thimble rather than the dredge he “promised” to use. The truth of the matter is that the “swamp” is draining him, assuming he was the real deal in the first place, something about which I’ve begun to have my doubts.

I’ve heard for years DHS is a foreign corporation headquartered in New Jersey.

Makes sense, Reichssekuritat… err… Homeland Security was laid out by Markus Wolfe of the Stasi, and under FINRA, the vice president is the head of Federal Police Forces.

Rule of Law has been dead for a long time.

No one wins if we attack North Korea. They have enough conventional weapons to destroy South Korea. They also have a large standing army that will mostly survive any attack. I don’t think China will tolerate anything that smells of additional containment by the U.S. This is a very large sack of serpents and the dumbass neocons want to dump it out. May God save us from the “patriots” in control of our Congress.

I hate to say this but it is the brutal truth. if we determine that North Korea has weaponized a missile capable of striking U.S. territory we will attack North Korea. That is to say, if those crazy bastards manage to put a live nuke on a missile that can hit us, we will attack without warning. Full stop.

So maybe I’m a dumbass but I’ll ask anyway:

Is there any proof these missiles were launched by NK? Or are we just supposed to believe whatever the lying media and our lying, warmongering government says?

I thought the US had the technology and equipment to shoot missiles and other stuff out of the sky. It’s not being used because…..

It’s not being used for the same reason foreign powers don’t just put ships and subs outside our territorial limits and shoot down every missile we launch as soon as it hits international airspace.

It would be an act of war to do so.

This is one of those damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Another lose lose. While Kim Jung Un is certifiable I would think his generals and advisors would prevent launching a war that would ultimately wreak complete destruction on the Korean peninsular, north an south. What the destruction in neighboring countries would be is conjecture, but surly would be significant. If the PTB in N.K. don’t eliminate or curtail their glorious leader I am sure that the CIA is working on an OP which has its own disastrous consequences.

For the last 60+ years North Korea has been a closed state. How do we know or believe any information we are told. Remember the incubator ruse during Desert Storm? Everything we are told comes from what sources…I don’t know, does anyone? I have to question, given our covert history, whether North Korea invaded on its own, or was there some covert operation to push them into a corner? Remember Pearl Harbor…

All I have is questions…no answers.

Someone should stuff a towel down this maniac’s (Senator Sodomite) mouth before he completely spills the beans.

FYI–in a possible war with North Korea, there will be no UN resolutions to line up support as was seen in Gulf War I and II, there will be no General’s pontificating beforehand while he lines up masses of troops and tanks across the DMZ, there won’t be any tank battles to replay on the Mili-goof-ball-channel.

If the USA is to lead an attack upon North Korea, it will come suddenly and completely unannounced–you will wake up one morning to see utter devastation in Japan, South Korea and sinking aircraft carrier battle groups. It will unfold at a terrible pace.

Make no mistake–North Korea will go down, but the cost of victory will be terrible.
Body bags by the thousands will come back to our shores.

Once a strike is confirmed by the North Korean military, they will strike back–and they will ripple fire medium raged, nuclear tipped missiles into American bases in Japan and South Korea. Some will be shot down by THADD defense system–but many will make it through and detonate in major pouplated areas. One or two may land close to a carrier battle group–and there a direct hit is not required. FYI–when we were testing nukes in the pacific on those teathered ships, even though many did not sink, they were rendered completely uninhabitable by the radioactive mist/fog that the detonation flung into the atmosphere… and there was no possible way to decontaminate them, and no possible way to do so effectively today.

Once ANY strike is confirmed by the North Korean military on their homeland–they will unleash several thousand hidden artillery pieces upon Seol, South Korea–it is estimated that they can land about 1 million shells upon the city in just the first hour (many of them with chemical weapons).

Once a nuclear detonation is confirmed by US/Japanese/South Korean forces… the US WILL retaliate in kind by taking out key cities in North Korea. Once this happens, China will ASSUREDLY jump into the conflict and from there it will escalate into a global war (possibly thermo nuclear).

I would expect EMP detonations over CONUS–which would take the country back to the 19th Century instantly… and over the course of 10 months, 90% of the population would be dead from privation and starvation.

Even if China does not come into the conflict–and say Tokyo takes a direct nuclear hit (very possibly FYI) –this would crash the world’s banking and economic system instantly. The effects would be felt here in the USA without delay.

The USA and the maniacs in DC are playing with fire.
And it does no good for Senator Sodomite to shoot his mouth off in such a manner.

If you think the North Korean’s are just sitting back, doing nothing, while waiting for such an attack–then you are delusional. I would bet a steak dinner that they are now stocking up shells in those hidden artillery positions, pre-positioning material and supplies at points where they would be safe, dispersing and fortifying their command and control structures and so forth.

I bet the whole country is like a busy beehive presently.

Anyone who thinks it will be a cake-walk is competely delusional.

Before any such military measures against North Korea be taken, President Trump should offer to personally meet with the Kim Jun Un at Pamunjung at the DMZ–and engage in discussions to diffuse/eliminate the situation.

Any and ALL political options should be completely exhausted first before any military action be taken. The dopes iin the Pentagram are assuredly egging-on President Trump to take immediate action, much in the same manner that they did to Kennedy during the Cuban Missile Crisis (and if Kennedy had listened to them, it would have caused WWIII).

If Trump blindly follows the lead of the Mili-tards–it will result in a hollow victory for the USA and a disaster that will be felt in every city and town in this country.

Wrap your skulls around these facts please.

Hell, we may hit NK with 24 nukes at one time and wipe them completely off the globe. They wont have time to respond. Our nuclear subs will surface in the Sea of Japan, our missile flight time will be seconds. SSBNs (ballistic missile submarines) can carry up to 24 missiles, which can be configured with up to 8 nuclear warheads each. If Trump attacks he’ll go balls deep.

sensetti, a couple of things….first our SSBNs do not surface to launch their missiles. They launch them from close to the surface, but not surfaced. Second, if they were called to launch they would more than likely not launch from the Sea of Japan. The patrol areas are chosen to be out of the way not right up along any body’s coast. I don’t know the current patrol areas, but would be surprised if an SSBN ever goes into the Sea of Japan. In fact I would put money on it.

I understand the subs launch from just below the surface.
My main point is we can wipe NK off the planet in seconds. The bastards would have no more of a chance retaliating than the citizens of Hiroshima or Nagasaki. First strike with no warning is the key!

Some people really love the smell of fear in the morning. I don’t. We little people only know a couple of things: We know we can’t believe or trust our political leaders. At any time they could be lying or telling the truth. We know we don’t really know anything about North Korea or even our own plans and capabilities. It is the lack of knowledge that leaves room for fear. Take a chill pill. Deal with what is in your control and let God take care of the rest.

For example, depart and return times for nonstop flights from nyc to lax differ as little as 30 mins and some are the same. If the earth is spinning at approx 1000 mph, these times make no sense.
Aside: Do pilots take earths rotation into consideration when landing (they don’t)?
Also, according to “press and pentagon ” reports, it is claimed that the missile flew at an altitude of 2300 miles. Considering that lying-nasa claims that the iss orbits at an altitude of 250 miles and the space shuttles orbit alt was about 235 miles, things aren’t adding up, unless nk has the most kickass rocket program in the world…
