I’ve told this one before, it is my best Instant Karma story:
I was TDY taking care of some equipment. One day, a visiting troupe of inspectors came by while I was out. Somebody later told me this wolfish looking NCO had been ragging about my work to the Captain.
I didn’t know all that when I walked up to the inspectors in the hallway. I heard Sgt Wolfish ragging about the Captain. Since it was none of my business, I walked away. I was standing in front of the Captain when Sgt Wolfish walked in and began apologizing frantically. I suppose somebody had noticed my name tag.
“Sgt Coyote, he began, I apologize for everything I said.”
“He says he didn’t mean it.” I told the Captain.
“Call off Vito.” quipped the Captain.
“You already told him?”
I left as Sgt Wolfish dug a deeper hole for himself, since the Captain had assumed he was referring to me.
And all because I walked up to a group of guys at just the right time.
Sorry I don’t have “We were white and we camped at Lake Wakonda every summer” stories. This is the happiest incident I can remember. I grew up in the damn ghetto, OK, are we clear now? I don’t have any funny stories about growing up Chicano.
I couldn’t build a comedian career out of the crap because I didn’t have a mean granny like George Lopez. It was just a same shit, different day kind of childhood. It really is my best experience and you guys ruined it. The rest of my memories are downers. Sorry.
