Philly Teacher Accused of Taking Bribes from Students in Exchange for Good Grades

A Philadelphia teacher is no longer in the classroom after she allegedly took bribes from students in exchange for better grades.

NBC10 first received a tip that Amanda Richardson, a humanities teacher at the LINC High School on W. Erie Ave., was accused of accepting bribes from her students and giving them good grades in return. A spokesperson for the Philadelphia School District confirmed with NBC10 they were investigating the allegations.

“We are aware of the situation and once it was brought to our attention, we acted immediately,” the spokesperson wrote. “The teacher was promptly removed from the school and both the Inspector General and Philadelphia Police have been notified. The School District of Philadelphia is fully cooperating with the investigation.”

The school district did not specify exactly what the alleged bribes were. They continue to investigate.

Richardson declined to comment on the allegations until it could be cleared with her union. The union and Richardson’s former principal didn’t immediately respond to NBC10’s request for comment.

I am 100% supportive of any and all slams on the worthless government monopoly school system, but in what way is this about “capitalism?” First, the school system is socialist in every aspect, from its theft-based funding mechanism to its government central planning. And taking bribes for changing grades is a violation of a contract (albeit one with the government that means absolutely nothing). In a private school setting and in a free market capitalist setting, this violation of a clearly defined contractual agreement would rightly be compensated with financial restitution to the parents who paid out good money to the school and possibly even paid for tutoring of the kids to make up for the poor quality instruction. In publik skool land, the teacher will likely find a job in another school district, the failing kids will continue to fail, and the parents will be “compensated” with trite lies like “we take this seriously,” and “it will never happen again.” And of course the school district will go whining to the state (to steal more tax dollars) to compensate the teachers better so this never happens again).

Get over your childish enthusiasm for an economic system until you’ve actually studied and thought about others. Let me ask you this…would you die for an economic system? Yeah me neither.

Usually the teacher is forced by the administration, peer pressure, parental harassment or need to maintain student rapport and fellowship to just give away grades. Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?
A good explanation why grade point average is next to worthless and that standardized tests have validity even with the Asian tutoring and preparation mills in full force and effect.l

I know this is simplistic and repetitive. But it’s what comes to mind.
