I took Photojournalism taught by Professor Schaub (waves… hello Laura, iffen you are there) at OU. She was not a PhD, but had worked for enough publications in and out of Oklahoma so as to be hired to teach me how to take a picture correctly.

She and I became friends, and I asked her to do me a favor on the final. She agreed to do so since it was not only a serious sort of question, it was also really funny, I thought. Since she did it, I assume she agreed.

The question?

If you see someone’s boat sinking at the lake and you are on a jetski close enough to get to them before it sinks….

What kind of film do you load into your camera to make sure the shots of them going under are clear?

The “correcf” answer at the time wasKodak KODAK PROFESSIONAL PORTRA 400 Film, sacrificing some detail for the ability to capture moment by moment sinking.

However Boomer Sooner film would have gotten bonus points, I am sure.

It was a wonderful treat to see that as bonus question on the test, Laura. Thank you. I hope that 6 figure job at Josten’s worked out well for you. You taught this country girl a thing or two, too.

Thanks, musket… I really had NEVER thought of that.

Never heard of an unfreemason before.

Anything a baby’s head can fit through, the body will follow. It also appears there are child gates at the top and bottom of the steps. So if it’s not photoshopped, and she wasn’t placed there by the photographer, she slid between the top posts.

If her feet gave way, she would land on the stair’s railing after her chin bounced off the floor’s edge. If her little hands lost their grip, she would fall backwards, legs hitting the railing, body and head crashing onto the stair steps.

Yet the photographer still prioritized vanity over the kid’s welfare.

In any scenario, it’s not a pretty picture.

My father took photos of my sister and I running up and down the rafters on the hay barn when I was 4 and sister was 6 or 7. Mom begging him to stop in the background of the home movie, which is now part of the archived estate.

Exactly.

Pssst, I’ve got a question that is unrelated, but since you are a quick reference, I hoped you might answer since I really don’t know exactly what I’m asking.

Last spring, a comment you made about maple syrup production in various climates sent me into the woods to find a future “grove” of maples to see what we can do here.

So, I cleared a bit of the brush (and when I say “I,” you know who cut it but I do indeed help drag it and burn it off) and left my new grove of little maples to grow.

We’ve had a lot of rain, as everyone knows. The growth on the trees is phenomenal, as is the field growth. Except for the row crop, but that is different, as you know quite well. So I wanted to go off into the woods today to “check” and see if any of the maples had shot up enough to start “shaping.”

So, I get down there and the weeds have shot up and it looks like the only ones that grew very much at all are ones still in the shade of larger trees nearby. Do little maples prefer shade in order to grow?

I did NOT move them at all and, except for one big tree that had died long ago and probably provided filtered shade… oh my. I had Nick cut that one down. Was that filtered sunlight the reason for that little grove of maple seedlings?

I just hoped you might answer without me having to figure out what it is I’m asking…

I don’t want to devote a lot of time to this now. I’m kind of focused on a project.

My daughter was doing exactly that type of thing
when she was about that same age.

Depends on motivation.

For her, it was chocolate-chip cookies.
