What’s Most Important?

Guest Post by Walter E. Williams

What's Most Important?

Let’s think about priorities. Say that you live in one of the dangerous high crime and poor schooling neighborhoods of cities like Chicago, Baltimore, Detroit, or St. Louis. Which is most important to you: doing something about public safety and raising the quality of education or, as most black politicians do, focusing energies upon President Donald Trump and who among the 20 presidential contenders will lead the Democratic Party? The average American has no inkling about the horrible conditions in which many blacks live. Moreover, they wouldn’t begin to tolerate living under those conditions themselves.

In Chicago, one person is shot every four hours and murdered every 18 hours. Similar crime statistics can be found in many predominantly black neighborhoods in Baltimore, Detroit, St. Louis, and many other large cities. It’s not just an issue of public safety, for high crime has other devastating consequences.

Crime lowers the value of property. We can see some of this when housing prices skyrocket in formerly high crime areas when large numbers of middle- and upper-income people purchase formerly run-down properties and fix them up. This is called gentrification — wealthier, predominantly white, people move in to renovate and restore slum housing in inner cities, causing higher rental prices and forcing low-income residents out. Also, as a result of gentrification, crime falls and neighborhood amenities increase.

The high crime rates in many black neighborhoods have the full effect of outlawing economic growth and opportunities. Here’s a tiny example of the impact of crime on businesses. In low crime communities, supermarket managers may leave plants, fertilizer and other home and garden items outdoors, unattended and often overnight. If one even finds a supermarket in a high crime neighborhood, then that store must hire guards, and the manager cannot place items outside unguarded or near exits. They cannot use all the space that they lease, and hence they are less profitable. Who bears the ultimate cost of crime? If you said black people, you’re right. Black people must bear the expense to go to suburban shopping malls if they are to avoid the higher prices charged by mom and pop shops.

In low crime neighborhoods, FedEx, UPS, and other delivery companies routinely leave packages that contain valuable merchandise on a doorstep if no one is at home. That saves the expense of redelivery and saves recipients the expense of having to go pick up the packages. In high crime neighborhoods, delivery companies leaving packages at the door and supermarkets leaving goods outside unattended would be equivalent to economic suicide.

Today’s level of lawlessness and insecurity in many black communities is a relatively new phenomenon. In the 1950s, ’40s, ’30s and earlier times, people didn’t bar their windows. Doors were often left unlocked. People didn’t go to bed to the sounds of gunshots. And black people didn’t experience anything like what’s experienced in Chicago and other cities such as one person being shot every four hours and murdered every 18 hours. The uninformed blames today’s chaos on discrimination and poverty. That doesn’t even pass the smell test, unless one wants to argue that historically there was less racial discrimination and poverty than today.

Politicians who call for law and order are often viewed negatively, but poor people are more dependent on law and order than anyone else. In the face of high crime or social disorder, wealthier people can afford to purchase alarm systems, buy guard dogs, hire guards and, if things get completely out of hand, move to a gated community. These options are not available to poor people. The only protection poor people have is an orderly society.

Ultimately, the solution to high crime rests with black people. Given the current political environment, it doesn’t benefit a black or white politician to take those steps necessary to crack down on lawlessness in black communities. That means black people must become intolerant of criminals making their lives living hell, even if it requires taking the law into their own hands.

I feel bad, seriously, for the small/old innocent trapped in those circumstances. It’s criminal for the government to NOT protect them. Clean up the damn trash. I wonder how many young people, if brought up in better surroundings, would have faired much better in life?

Cities controlled by Democratz for half a century have taken once magnificent cities and turned them into shitholes approaching Third World status.

Yeah better surroundings – lets pay moar taxes to help them with that.

I’m just saying, it’s a shame because it’s a cycle. I’m not saying the government should spend more other than to spend more, if needed, to take out the trash and police the streets more effectively. That would be the best $$ spent.

I’m all out of ‘feeling sorries’ for ghetto blacks. They excoriate anyone who tells the truth which is….they created the shithole. They are lazy, they are violent, they attack anyone who tells them that they are the authors of their own misery. Much easier to blame white folk and stick their hand out for the government checks, steal and deal drugs. I also blame white liberals for the ghettos, they helped create and maintain.

Just announced that Shitcago has a half million illegals. Dhimmicrats are thrilled shitless with Governor Greasy Hog Boy Pritzker signing a bill to protect them from the law.
Why? Because a half million bodies let them them gerrymander a few more seats from Republicans by pushing some Republicans into Republican or big majority Dem districts taking away their vote or splitting up Republican districts with enough Dems and illegals to take the seat.
WHY SHOULD YOU CARE if you don’t live in Shitcago? Because reapportionment will let Democrats steal a congressional seat from your state because of non-citizen criminals being embraced by the Communist filth called Democrats.

What was it that Clark Gable said in “Gone with the Wind”? Oh yeah, now I remember.
Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn. What happens in black neighborhoods stays in black neighborhoods – or it should. If they’d stop murdering each other, stop electing corrupt thieves from among themselves, and stop blaming everyone else for their problems, I might give a damn.
As a group they’ve been given employment quotas with lowered standards, affirmative action, and equal opportunity and still piss it away only to ask for more.

I agree, except they are not asking. They have long crossed the Rubicon and as a group I’m DONE with them.

I spent three years in Atlanta in the late 80’s early 90’s managing about 100 people directly and 14 retail stores from the Loss Prevention responsibility. About 30% of my staff was black…they gave me about 60% of my problems and almost all of the really serious ones. I actually had to personally investigate and break up (with help from UPS Loss Prevention who triggered the opening of the case) a click of four black Loss Prevention employees who reported to a black LP manager who reported to me. He was clueless & useless and soon left before being fired. He wasn’t part of the ring because I discovered he was hardly ever in the store! Together the four Loss Prevention employees and a receiving employee (also black) were stealing and shipping out electronics and jewelry to a relative/fence in another city. This was in a liberal company that took affirmative action to an obscene, sometimes sickening level.

However, the most notorious ‘Affirmative Non-Action’ case was this one, within the first year of opening the stores.

There was a black female who was an Operations Manager in one store who was being groomed to be the first black female Store Manager and maybe even the first black female District Manager, HR’s two step promotable dream for diversity. Her photo was actually on all the recruiting posters displayed all over the 14 stores at grand opening and still were up when this happened.

Degreed, well-spoken and dressed, she was also quite attractive…she could turn your head. When I told my boss I had covert camera videos of her leaning inside the safe stuffing a total of close to $2,000.00 in cash into her bra/bosom over multiple hits (when she was closing the store and alone in the office) he and the entire chain of command above him ‘GASPED’ and wouldn’t let me take her out as I would have if she had been white.

I had to send the videos to HQ for them to review before the interrogation. While waiting for the puzzle place to let me do my job that would already have been done if she wasn’t a black woman in Atlanta, she hit us again! Another video!

With this news I was finally given permission.

With indisputable video evidence the interrogation (with three witnesses one a black HR female by HR’s request) was a slam dunk. But, I must admit she was tough, tried to bluff her way out, showed no emotion except insulted shock, and remained cold and even haughty…even after I finally received a full confession…as I was starting to call the police in front of her.

Within an hour of her leaving terminated (not arrested by Corporate HR’s strict direction) but with her last paycheck signed over and a company Civil Restitution form filled out and signed for full payback (generous terms) she got off without a criminal charge or record!

The posters with her smiling and looking confidant and fetching were taken down in all 14 stores within an hour of her leaving. Except one…I got to that one myself right before the interrogation in another store.

I had a dart board at home and her photo and ample cash cones made great targets!

I was watching Tucker Carlson last night. In NYC the “fellas” were dumping buckets of water on the heads of cops and they did NOTHING. They just kept walking as the bucket brigade continued. “CRIME IS THE NEW BLACK ENTITLEMENT”-Colin Flaherty

And then get their lunch money stolen by an immediate response showing their hypocrisy.

Maybe some of you were old enough to visit the great cities of the eastern seaboard in the 1980s……the violence and criminality then were much much higher…..We used to carry our long sturdy umbrellas rain or shine and use them as shark billy’s to steer the homeless away and deter the pickpockets/muggers from getting too close. What changed…..

What changed was that Rudy Guliani implemented zero-tolerance…….the key insight was that the perps committing the small crimes like turnstile jumping, smoking a joint, open container, etc were, in fact, the very same people who were committing the more serious murders, robberies, assaults, and rapes. By getting folks off the street by prosecuting for the smaller infractions you were, in fact, preventing many more serious crimes.

“Red” Bill De Blasio and other libturds are running back to the failed soft on crime policies of the 1960s the led directly to the crime epidemic of the 70s-80s. NYC will become uninhabitable if Red Bill is succeeded by another commie which seems extremely likely.

The criminal underclass is highly responsive to government action (and even more responsive to armed citizens!) so the cops getting buckets of water tossed on them is just the beginning,..the word gets out amongst the criminal element very quickly…….Time for Crime without Consequences…..Spicy Time!

Martel’s Hammer,

I lived in Cliff Wood Beach NJ from 77 to 84…don’t remember the year, but I bought the AMT Back Up with a wallet holster, and still have it. Still shoot and still carry it, now as a second gun back up. Back in the day it was all I carried for a gun.

I was and remain a judged by 12 guy over a carried by 6 guy.

Whenever I went to NYC in the early 80’s I packed the AMT and a belt buckle push dagger.

With practice you can hand over your pretend AMT wallet and shoot a mugger (5 times with a .380) in one fluid motion.

With practice you can pull a push dagger out of your belt buckle in seconds, probably 2.

During the early 80’s I would go to Yankee Stadium for a game or NYC to take Texas relatives to show them around. Took my in laws to see, ‘Best Little Whore House in Texas’ in 81. (We moved to Texas in 84). I always packed both a gun and a knife in the ‘Rotten Apple’. My cash was always on my ankle.

As you know Times Square was a XXX cesspool beyond words. You had to see it to believe it.

Almost had to pull the AMT once…long story…the threat backed down and quickly left when I set myself to pull. He read my body language right. He was two of me and he made an instant judgement I would have shot him if I had to.

When you are lucky it takes a 3fer…the right body language…the right read, and the right reaction.

While I agree with the article, I think the author alludes to the more salient point in the last paragraph-the solution lies with the people living in these areas. I am really sick of this racist crap and the glorification of the ghetto and the whole victimization ideology-perpetuated by a certain political party (I will let you guess which one). It is black people’s responsibility now….no more excuses. Not with all these friggin’ government programs to help the ghetto dweller get ahead. The two biggest things impeding the advancement of black is their own culture and the government with the government being the biggest offender here.

Tens of thousands of black people have left places like Baltimore, probably hundreds of thousands, so consider why anyone would stay. Mainly its dope, cheap and abundant, for themselves or relatives or friends. One person in 8 is an addict, a parasite feeding off of the other 7. An addict’s sole fucus is “more dope”, nothing else. To save 7 of 8 people give that parasite 1 of 8 all the dope they can use for nearly free, call it a prescription. Saving 7 of 8 and dropping crime in the City to near zero is better than pretending that addiction doesn’t drive every other problem.

Normally, I agree with much Walter Williams writes. But he is in error regarding the period known as Alcohol Prohibition. The drive by shooting was invented during this period as rival gangs of thugs battled over turf control to distribute the alcohol they pushed. Ultimately, this led to the Saint Valentine’s Day massacre. This one act so shocked the people they demanded an end to Alcohol Prohibition. Little did the people know, organized crime had a fall back, Drugs! Damn Nixon and his rabid enforcement of drug laws. Now the united States is once again experiencing the bad policies of government with poor people bearing the brunt of this prohibition. Until all drug laws are repealed, starting with the Harrison Tax Act of 1914 which effectively banned opium. NO. ONE. IS. SAFE!

Kinda hard to do anything when the average IQ is 75 and almost all of the residents are on some form of public assistance .They never remember that every bridge has been built for them to succeed and most of those bridges are empty. In stead they live by the mantra, ” A Black Man Can’t Make It ‘Cause The Man Is Keeping Us Down ” .
