Anarchy does not mean burn down starbucks(though not a bad idea)but means getting things done as a group and then just moving on,at least for me.
Whether it is accurate or not, Anarchy is usually associated with lawlessness and guys like Wez from the Road Warrior. It scares people rightly or wrongly. I can see how it might be a fine thing in a remote area of like-minded people. Regardless, it would probably wind up like 99.9% of all communes and similar thing where after the first generation passes everything goes to Hell.
There can be no emanantizing of the Eschaton for more than a blink of the eye on this world. It isn’t how the Big Guy set it up.

In your example case, the neighbors can apply pressure just as effectively as some gov’t agency can. The difference is that bribing the neighbors is way more difficult than bribing a legislator to make it ‘legal’ to pollute in a specific case.
The ‘law’ today is a set of exceptions for people with enough money to purchase the legislation they want. It’s one giant swindle.
The ‘law’ protects the predators in the society. A rapist is jailed, which means housed, clothed, fed and given medical care on the public’s dime. He is then released to commit another offense, wash, rinse, repeat. In an anarchic society, the perp would probably end up dead or beaten so badly as to insure the appropriate message is received loud and clear.
Look at any situation where a party is injured by another and the typical result is the state gets paid off via a fine and the injured party is left uncompensated. Corporations injure or defraud thousands as policy and they end up paying the gov’t a cut of their profits reported as a fine to the public. How does that compensate those injured and how does that dissuade the corp from continuing their profit making injurious scheme? In an anarchic society, the guilty have no police protection or state sanction.
To all you lurkers, down voters who disagree, why not state your position openly and lets debate the issues. I’d bet you haven’t the mental resources required to defend your position.
I may be lacking metal resources but I have a significant enough quantity of family, friends, and firepower to make whatever you are going to say moot.

Knowledge makes a man unfit to be a slave. it is often extremely difficult to see the forest for the trees. We’re often so busy pretending to think outside the box that we lose track of what’s “the box” and what’s not. We’re so inured by this system of exploitation that it’s often too easy to kiss each other with lies rather than smack each other with the truth.
Meanwhile, complacency sets in and inertia takes hold. Apathy takes root and ignorance becomes “bliss.” Our lives go on and we placate each other with such cowardly platitudes as, “It’s just the way things are,” or “Why fight it? There’s nothing we can do.” “Vote for the lessor of two evils”. Bullshit!
This is the way things are. This unhealthy system (statism) has separated you from the way things are (natural anarchy).
Statism is the result of an obsolete idea (that has somehow (stupidly) withstood the test of time) held by a group with outdated notions of power lording such power over an ignorant majority that falsely believes they are participating in the freedom to choose their lords every few years by voting.

Look at some people here now that are calling for anarchy, yet in previous postings they criticized the act of not voting or non-participation in government. Is that cognitive dissonance?
If one votes with any anticipation of effect it is stupid. That said, one might vote for someone saying they will do what is perceived as necessary until angry and determined enough to begin shooting, which should never be done in haste.
And how many times does that condition need to happen before it is considered ‘not haste’?
