Winter Blast To Dump Heavy Snow Across Rockies, Plains, Midwest This Week

One month ago my son got married outdoors with 72 degree temperatures in Loveland CO. This is the current forecast for Loveland, after already getting 5 inches of snow Sunday:

Issued: 6:05 AM Oct. 29, 2019 – National Weather Service
...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON MDT WEDNESDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 8
inches. Highest amounts from Fort Collins southward. Winds
gusting as high as 35 mph with areas of blowing snow near the
Wyoming border.

* WHERE...Fort Collins.

* WHEN...Until noon MDT Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. The cold wind chills
as low as 15 below zero could result in hypothermia if
precautions are not taken.

Several major snowstorms are expected to dump heavy snow across the Rockies, the Plains, and into the Midwest this week as cold Arctic air blankets those regions in the last days of October.

The Weather Channel is reporting “a southward plunge of the jet stream from the Rockies into the central US has entrenched a pipeline of arctic air over those regions. Two weather systems tapping into that cold air are producing snowfall as they track from the Rockies to the Plains and into Midwest.”

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued winter weather alerts across the northern and central Rockies and central High Plains.

Denver-Boulder corridor, located in northern Colorado, has been placed under a winter storm warning through Wednesday morning. The region could see 6 to 12 inches of snow on through Tuesday night.

From Tuesday evening into Wednesday, snow will be seen in the Central Plains, Midwest, and the Rockies.

The Weather Channel said an area of low pressure will form near the Great Lakes on Thursday, could produce the first accumulating snow for northeastern Missouri into eastern Iowa, western and northern Illinois, and southern Wisconsin.

With a plunge in the jetstream, Central and Midwest heating degree day (HDD) indexes, a measurement designed to quantify the demand for heating a building, have moved above trend through the end of the month into the first week of November.

A similar pattern in HDD is also seen in the lower-48, suggests that energy demand is increasing as the winter season begins.

NatGas spot prices have soared nearly 14% in six sessions.

Phock it.

To those affected,

Throw the bicycle, the mower, and the golf clubs into storage.

Pull out the boots, the down jackets, the skis and snowboards, even if earlier than usual.

Fill a wineskin with some Fireball, and grab a thermos of hot apple cider.

Then get your ass outside and do something fun. After shoveling out.

Hunkering down, whimpering and shivering is for sissies.

Embrace your inner Siberian Huskie, bitches.

Come in sliding sideways, yelling
Yeee Hah!

If life gives you lemons, and they’re frozen, put em in a blender with a quality vodka and some ice, make a batch of slush you can enjoy, as long as you’re not climbing onto a snowmobile.
Drinking and driving is verboten.

No doubt, globull warming is the reason for the season. Just remember, CO2 is Plant Food! … Chip

I’m in Saskatchewan Canada this week, this morning its 14 F (-10 C), snow continues to fall.
The sad part, Halloween here for kids is tough having to wear their winter jackets.
We need more global warming, not less!

My second favourite memory from my Sask years (the first was meeting my wife, which I better say in case she sees this) was playing hockey on a flooded tennis court in January. It was -25 C and the ever-present wind made the windchill near -40 (we were young and drunk and stupid). At one point my eyes froze shut. The wind had watered my eyes and the tear drops froze my top eye lashes to my bottom ones. I had to remove my gloves and use the heat of my fingers to see again. My friends let me know I was just as effective playing hockey blind. Only those who’ve lived in Sask or on Pluto know what cold is. (Bob P)

Similar tale, BP.
Back in the late 80’s, one guy from our gang had it on his bucket list to attend a game at Lambeu Field.
So, 8 of us made plans to go on an adventure. In winter.

I went out and spent $80 bucks
( a lot of shekels back then) for a new pair of Sorel boots.

It was so cold in the stands, watching our home team as visitors battle on the gridiron against the Packers, my beer turned to slush, for lollygagging during consumption.

My toes felt like ice cubes, so I never wore Sorels again.

In the 2nd half, after eating a couple of mushrooms one of my scofflaw friends brought along, I was impervious to the Sub zero temps.

Nevertheless, I was shivering so much, it felt like I was dancin’.

Ahh, but I was so much older then.
I’m younger than that now.

I was in Calgary for their worst winter in 30 years. Day and night for six weeks was below -30. Worst day was -49. NOT a wind chill. The car froze, I walked to work. Couldn’t get my parka off because the moisture from my breath froze the ruff solid.

Here in Southwest Montana, it was a balmy-12F on my way to work this morning….after 6″ of snow yesterday. Roads were especially treacherous due to the freezing ground fog putting a thin layer of super slippery ice coating on everything…….good times!

BTW BNSF railways is being sued for murdering 8 grizzly bears with their trains in MT this year……hmmm….. actually looking at the article…just the Northwestern part of MT…(Glacier Park area)…which indicates that the damn Grizz population is likely significantly higher than official reports……..thank god for uber cold….send those death machines off to hibernate and reduce our risk of dismemberment for a couple of months.

In other news,

Achieving the rank of Eagle Scout used to be a big deal, and a noble goal.

I never got past Cub Scout levels, but Eagles, it’s a good bet, were males who at the very least, possessed some valuable skills and knowledge of how things work, backed by a strong discipline for learning, study, and expertise.

Then Scouting was infected by predators that no doubt did evil things to many young boys, whose parents trusted Scout leaders to lead their sons during overnight camping trips.

What a tragedy.
Then, the girls sued, to gain access.
Now, the former Boy Scouts of America is scrambling for funds, to financially cover their ass, from an anticipated wave of sexual abuse lawsuits headed their direction.

Eerily similar to priests with sick intentions within the church, and the Vatican and local archdiocese scrambling for more funding, after failing to uproot and prosecute all the senior members who abused the trust of the faithful.

Small wonder membership in these organizations is dropping faster than PG&E’s stock price in Cali.

Disgusting, to anybody with morals, integrity, and a sense of decency.
Homos and pedos ruin people.

My grandson (24) is spending his first winter living in Denver. He has never dealt with cold weather or snow in his life as he always resided in the deep south. Hope he bought a warm coat and gloves, he never needed them before so doubt he even owned any. What does not kill you makes you strong.

One month ago? Saturday was in the 70s. I felt hot in the sun trick or treating with my daughter.

Sunday, the high was in the 20s.

Now it’s snowing like a mother… my 40 minute drive was an hour 40.

But, the frozen tundra shit is nonsense. I’ll be playing golf again in 2-3 weeks.

That’s Colorado.
