Every US soldier from at least Vietnam onward is a war criminal. There has been no declaration of war by Congress for all these murderous adventures and therefore the participants are murderers.
I make no equivalence to the local swine in the ME that can stomach such atrocities except to say that they are way over there and none of my, your, or our business. The FACT that the US invaded nation after nation in the ME means the US is the bad guy and US soldiers are complicit in the murders of hundreds of thousands of people, mostly innocent civilians, and should be brought before an international war crimes tribunal along with at least every living president since Eisenhower and the entire chain of command all the way up through Congress.
If your morality can condone what the US soldiers have done, then you’re no better than they are.
By your standards, you really should include Korea as well. Also no declaration, and little more than collective UN war crimes.

The Department of Defense has been a criminal organization for well over 50 years.
The day prior to the 911 incident, Defense Secretary Rumsfeld went on national TV to announce that the DOD couldn’t account for $2.3 Trillion in funds. Recently, Dr Mark Skidmore and Catherine Austin Fitts have identified $21 Trillion that DOD has absconded with. Also recently, laws were passed to make gov’t accounting even more opaque than they already were to try to hide all the theft.
RECO statutes could be used to prosecute an on going criminal enterprise, which DOD – The US military – is. Those in the employ of said criminal enterprise are subject to prosecution. The only question is to what degree soldiers are culpable for all manner of criminality.
In the law, the concept of ‘should have known’ applies to individuals that claim innocence due to ignorance. The Nuremberg trials held that following illegal orders is criminal and since the entire DOD is a criminal racket, following any of their orders anywhere makes an individual culpable.

My take on the photographs posted here is different than yours. Someone holding what appears to be the severed head of a man is identified as a war criminal and then, six years later a man with like features is identified as an EU refugee. The implied message-in my opinion-is nations that allow barbarians to take refuge in their country are at risk. A secondary implied message is that leaders of nations who seek out, accept, or tolerate barbarian refugees are doing a disservice to their citizens.

Half the military is composed of guys with families they can’t support. The lure of their family needs being met ( housing, food,medical, dental, etc) is the bait. Between, see the world, family security and get training for civilian employment, encompasses 90 plus % of those who join. An extremely small few sign up to “kill some fuckers”. Those types are screened out early. By and large they are your middle and lower income neighbors kids.

I do know a lot of veterans who quickly got hired into decent jobs after they mustered out, and personally know of none who were dodgers or COs who enjoyed that form of payback.

When some standing uniformed idiot blurted out something to the effect : ‘we’ll ship your ass off right now’, I countered with something to the effect : ‘ and if I get access to a weapon, I know who my enemies are’.

The more common way to refuse and avoid induction was to declare and be granted conscientious objector status and then usually have to perform community service work-often doing sub-CNA type of work in a hospital. Know one guy who did just that, then became a social studies teacher for 30 years, and still shows his anger from his days as an unwilling volunteer.

My wife’s family ran from the Cultural Revolution. Her best friend was a former Red Guard who defected and converted.
