It is astounding and deeply disturbing that 75 years after the end of World World Two the history of that event is being re-written before our very eyes.
That war resulted in over 50 million dead with more than half of the victims from the Soviet Union. It incorporated the worst crimes against humanity, including the systematic mass murder of millions carried out by Nazi Germany, known as the Holocaust. The victims included Jews, Slavs, Roma, Soviet prisoners-of-war and others whom the fascist Nazis deemed to be “Untermensch” (“Subhumans”).
The Soviet Red Army fought back the Nazi forces all the way from Russia through Eastern Europe, eventually defeating the Third Reich in Berlin. Nearly 90 per cent of all Wehrmacht casualties incurred during the entire war were suffered on the Eastern Front against the Red Army. That alone testifies how it was the Soviet Union among the allied nations which primarily accomplished the defeat of Nazi Germany.
Seventy-five years ago, on January 27, 1945, it was Red Army soldiers who liberated the notorious Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp. It was during the Vistula-Oder Offensive which drove the Nazis out of Poland paving the way for the eventual final victorious battle in Berlin some three months later.
It is incredible that within living memory, these objective facts of history about the most cataclysmic war ever waged are being falsified or insidiously distorted.
Germany’s most-read magazine Der Spiegel, American-European journal Politico, a U.S. embassy announcement, as well as American Vice President Mike Pence, are among recent sources who have either falsified or downplayed the heroic role of the Soviet Union in liberating Auschwitz. This is part of a disconcerting trend of rewriting the history of World War Two, by which, preposterously, the Soviet Union is being equated with Nazi Germany. Such pernicious fiction must be resisted and repudiated by all conscientious historians and citizens.
Der Spiegel and the U.S. embassy in Denmark both had to issue embarrassed apologies after they separately stated that it was American forces which liberated Auschwitz. It is mind-boggling how such an error on the 75th anniversary of one of the most iconic events in history could have been made – by a leading magazine and a diplomatic corps.
More sinister was an article published in Politico on January 24 written by the Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki which claimed, “Far from being a liberator, the Soviet Union was a facilitator of Nazi Germany.”
The Polish politician is no exception. It has become a staple argument in recent years contended by other Polish leaders and politicians from the Baltic states who seek to revise the history of the war, blaming the Soviet Union for being an accomplice with Nazi Germany. The corruption of history is partly driven by a desire to whitewash the nefarious role played by these countries as quislings to the Third Reich who helped it carry out the Holocaust.
Vice President Pence’s speech at the Holocaust memorial event in Jerusalem on January 23 was another deplorable sleight of hand. In his address, he never once mentioned the fact of the Soviet forces blasting open the gates of Auschwitz. Pence merely said, “When soldiers opened the gates of Auschwitz…” A sentence later, he went on to mention how “American soldiers liberated Europe from tyranny.”
It is quite astonishing how brazenly false narratives about World War Two are being told, not merely by Neo-Nazi sympathizers and cranks beyond the pale, but by supposedly senior politicians and respectable media. It is perplexing how the heroic role of Soviet commanders, soldiers and people is being eroded, airbrushed and even maligned into something grotesquely opposite.
Washington’s belligerent geopolitical agenda of trying to isolate and undermine Russia is no doubt underlying the process of re-writing history in order to deprive Russia of moral authority and recast it as a malign nation. Of course the obsessive Russophobia of Polish and Baltic politicians neatly plays into this agenda.
This reprehensible revisionism is in flagrant contradiction and denial of international libraries of documented history, archives, official and personal correspondence, photographs, as well as first-hand witness accounts.
An excellent essay by Martin Sieff this week recounts how Soviet soldiers and medics tended to the remaining 7,000 wretched inmates of Auschwitz. More than a million others had been exterminated by the Nazis before they fled from the advancing Soviet forces.
The Soviet officer in command of liberating Auschwitz was Lieutenant Colonel Anatoly Shapiro. He was himself a Russian-born Jew. The Soviet soldiers spoke of their horror and heartbreak upon discovering the hellish conditions in which skeletal men, women and children were teetering on the brink of death. Bodies of dead lay everywhere among pools of frozen blood.
Another Jewish Soviet officer Colonel Elisavetsky told how Russian doctors and nurses worked without sleep or food to try to save the emaciated inmates.
As Sieff notes:
“For Colonel Shapiro, the idea that he, his Red Army comrades and the medical staff who fought and died to liberate Auschwitz and who worked so hard to save its pitifully few survivors should be casually equated with the Nazis mass-killers would have been ludicrous and contemptible… The true story of the liberation of Auschwitz needs to be told and retold. It needs to be rammed down the throats of Russia-hating bigots and warmongers everywhere.”
Maintaining the historical record about World War Two – its fascist origins and its defeat – is not just a matter of national pride for Russians. Ominously, if history can be denied, falsified and distorted, then the danger of repetition returns. We must never let the heroic role of the Soviet Union be forgotten or belittled, especially by people who seem to have a penchant for fascism.

All of the German camp documents were stored at Bad Aralson since the end of the war. The Red Cross/ITS was the agency charged with controlling these records at Bad Aralson.
In 1985, 40 years after the war, Dr Charles Beiderman was the head of the Red Cross/ITS, Beiderman was called to testify at the Zundel trial for the prosecution. Beiderman testified that as of December 31, 1983, the total number of deaths registered with the Special Registry Office and various other registry offices was 373,468.
There is NOT ONE DOCUMENT outlining any extermination plan for jews or others. In fact, prominent Zionists collaborated with the German government and formulated plans at the highest level of the German government for the transfer of jews to what was then known as Palestine. Absolutely nothing was noted or recorded about extermination.
If a country were hell-bent on genocide, WHY WOULD IT KEEP RECORDS?? The short version of the article is that the peace-loving, inoffensive Soviet Union was attacked for no reason by murderous Nazis (also called Fascists, a political movement quite separate from the Nazis) and the heroic Red Army – with piddling help from the Western Allies and at enormous cost to itself – drove the Nazis back to Berlin and saved the world. In particular, they liberated the surviving inmates of the Nazi concentration camps in eastern Europe.
It is true that Nazi Germany attacked the Soviet Union and that the Nazis committed horrific crimes against both the civilian population and Soviet POW’s. The Red Army suffered astounding losses in battle and much of the Soviet Union was laid in ruins. The Soviets suffered the bulk of the casualties inflicted by the Germans on the Allies and they tied up the major part of the German land forces for most of the war. No civilized person can claim to sympathize with the Nazi regime or doubt the courage and steadfastness of the soldiers and people of the Soviet Union in repelling a brutal invader. So far, so good.
Unfortunately for apologists for the Soviets and Communists in general, this version leaves out a few minor details.
The truth is that the Soviet Union from 1917 on was the headquarters and dirving wheel of a vast international criminal conspiracy that, until 1989, presented the worst threat to civilized life on this planet since time began. Thanks to the unforgivable crimes of a gang of Western traitors, this barbaric regime was able to arm itself with nuclear weapons. We came close, very close, to a future of unending horror.
Let us start at the beginning. The Bolshevik Revolution resulted in the establishment of an illegitimate, criminal regime in what had been most of the former Russian Empire. Millions of decent, innocent people were tortured, murdered, imprisoned or forced to flee their homeland by this government of sadistic thugs. The Christian church was persecuted almost to extinction. And from the very first day of their rule the Communists set out to spread their “revolution ” across the entire world. Yes, Dorothy, there were Reds under the bed, millions of them, and they were not fighting for the rights of workers and poor people. These traitors and killers operated in almost every country on earth, sowing hatred, class warfare, defiance of the rule of law and ordinary morality. IN the 1920’s and 1930’s vast networks of subversives were created, not least in our own country.
For all the hoo-hah about so-called “McCarthyism”, the truth is that Joseph McCarthy grossly understated the extent to which our government had been infiltrated by Soviet agents and their Fellow Traveler friends. These soulless bastards walked the halls of the White House and helped pervert our foreign policy, war aims, and diverted our blood and tressure to the service of Joseph Stalin. For those of you still brain-washed by the liberal media, read The Haunted Wood or the Venona Files. Better yet, Blacklisted by History. The whole truth is there and it is irrefutable.
But let us return to the Second World War.
In Europe, at least, it started in September 1939, with the Nazi invasion of Poland, one of a series of moves by Hitler to restore what he thought should be Germany’s position in Europe and the world. There is no excusing his aggression, but Hitler was helped along by a Polish governmebt run by arrogant idiots as well as feckless French and British policies.
And what were the Soviets doing? Why, they helped Hitler carve up Poland, adding the choice morsels of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, as well as a chunk of Rumania. He would have gobbledf up Finland, too, if the Finns had not been such fierce fighters. In the almost two years after these “allies” had destroyed Poland, the Soviet Union provided Hitler with many of the raw materials he needed to expand his fighting machine, which by May of 1940 was fighting the British, now virtually alone after the French collapse. Of course, the Communist said they did this just to buy time, which may be true, but not in the way they tell it.
All through the 1930’s Stalin had been preparing a massive industrial base for war, this at a time when he knew full well that the Western powers had no intention of attacking the USSR and Germany was only starting to rearm (after 1933). Millions of slaves were arrested and sent to forced labor on these gigantic projects, millions died in the purges, in the frozen concentration camps of Siberia, or digging gold with their bare hands in the tundra, gold used to buy the (mostly American) industrial tools needed for the production of military equipment.
The Red Army was turned into a fearsome weapon for OFFENSIVE warfare. Several authors have pointed out the obvious, that at some point Stalin intended to turn on the West, crush Germany and put all of Europe under Soviet control. A few, including some former Soviet writers, claim that when Hitler struck the Soviet Union in June 1941, Stalin was on the verge of his own blitzkrieig aimed at Germany. My own view is that this is exactly what Stalin was planning, but his timing was off by a year or six months (as was his understanding of deficiencies of the Red Army).
Even those experts who dismiss the theory that Hitler attacked only to forestall a looming Red Army offensive now concede what Stalin’s ultimate plans were: Allow Germany to exhaust itself in a war with Great Britain, then strike them in the back.
The truth is that war between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union was probably inevitable. Hitler had always said his main enemy was Communism, which he saw as a Jewish-inspired conspiracy against Western Civilization and, of course, Germany.
As the saying goes, And the war came. Indeed it did, the worst and most bloody in human history. It was a pitiless contest between two of the most evil systems in world history, with little quarter given by either side.
While one can’t blame a Russian for hating the invaders of his country, no matter what regime held power there, hundreds of thousands of Russians, Ukrainians and others actually preferred to fight for the Nazis rather than serve what they correctly saw as an alien, Godless, murdering collection of Communists. Were they right or wrong? I won’t judge them. I know I would never fight for a U.S. government run by the likes of AOC, Sanders, Warren, Bill Ayers, or Omar. Would you?
As for the “liberation” of eastern Europe by the Red Army, it was an orgy of bestial rape, looting, wanton destruction and the imposition of criminal Communist regimes. Even the Soviet leaders would eventually acknowledge this and they knew it had wrecked any chance of genuine support for their puppet governments.
Of course, the article refers to the Jewish officers in the Red Army and their efforts (no doubt sincere) to help the survivors of Hitler’s camps. Fair enough, although it should be noted that in many instances the majority of the prisoners chose to retreat into Germany with their SS guards rather than await Soviet “liberation”. Most of these prisoners had already experienced Soviet rule and had no desire to repeat it. There were repeated instances of Allied POW’s being murdered by the Red Army when they tried to protect these prisoners or German refugees from the tender mercies of the Red Army.
In view of the terrible experiences of the Holocaust victims, it may seem a bit crass to bring up the fact that many of those same Jewish Red Army officers who mourned the deaths of their fellow Jews had been ethusiastic supporters of the Communist regime and had personally benefited from it. More than a few had directly participated in the creation of the Soviet police state, the Gulag system, the mass murder of former Czarist Russian officers and their families, Orthodox priests and faithful, and countless other crimes against Russians and other non-Jews (not a few anti-Communist or simply religious Jews also were persecuted, it should be recalled).
The Second World War was a catastrophe and few who participated had completely clean hands.
One can honor the Red Army men of Stalingrad and Kursk without excusing the regime they fought under.

When will our attention become focused on the present hoaxes and not totally on the past. It is good to understand the history from as many angles as possible. However, if we stay focused on the past we may not be paying sound attention to the present. This might cause us to repeat what ever happened so many years ago. Pull back the curtain of the present. Let’s begin with some clarity and truth. EVERY heinous and heroic act that took place during this or any war, was done by an INDIVIDUAL, making a personal choice at that moment….whatever the motivation, orders he/she was given, etc. In the end, NEITHER side of the war was 100% horrible, nor 100% divine. History is written by the victors, and those with a need to control the narrative (likely to cover up their own atrocities or their own complicity). Having archives open to anyone who wishes, simply means that the person creating the archives is likely quite content with the contents of what they made available to everyone. It does not mean that THOSE are the only documents available. WW2 was simply a continuation of WW1, with even more pissed off Germans thanks to the Treaty of Versailles. Indeed, the efforts of the Russian army, both on the eastern front with Germany, AND on the pacific front against Japan, likely made efforts at defeating both armies by “allied” forces a bit or a whole lot easier. That does not absolve them from their own atrocities during, or after the war ended. Nor does the defeat of the Japanese and the Germans, absolve the US or any other allied troops, from the atrocities they committed both during and after the war, and it most certainly does not absolve FDR of his sellout of the people’s of eastern Europe to Stalin. Pretending that either side is 100% truthful, 100% moral, or any other such nonsense, flies in the face of the truth of all wars. Pretending that 100% of the populations of these nations were in support of what their governments were doing in their name, also flies in the face of the realities we have all lived through in our own country.
