WHAT IF?

“Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, one by one.” Charles MacKay, Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds

Wrong question.

The correct question is at what number will the Gold/Dow index bottom.
5? 2?

The Dow, ultimately, responds to earnings which are in dollars which are just liabilities in the political system

Gold ought to be measured in purchasing power, like an ounce that buys a good man’s suit.

In the interim between gold in dollars becoming gold as the only money, the gold/Dow ratio might be around “1” once again. It was 1.29 in 1980.

Utes are way out of their comfort zone. Free advice, worth what you pay for it but I may sell utilities in a tax sheltered IRA and add some Phillips 66 (PSX). It’s getting dragged down with the others but as a refiner can gorge itself with cheap oil guaranteeing huge profits a few months on and has an upside potential near term (6-18 mos) of up to 100% which would be back at the 52 week high. When the flight to safety falls off the Utes will drop 25%+. The dividend on PSX will be between 5 and 6% tomorrow unless it drops further which means you may see 7% or better. I also hope all dividend reinvestor’s stocks are paying the quarterly dividends right now. A LOT of fat hogs are getting carved right now by those who recognize them.

If the world is coming to an end in what, ten years? Gold will not help you. Eventually the man with potatoes will be the person that tells you to shove it.

What if that potato man has lots of potatoes and no butter? And the butter man has no apples? And apple man has no ladder? And the maker of ladders has no potatoes? Ya get my drift, Peter? Money, money, money, real money simplifies and amplifies trade which is based on the division of labor which is the foundation of a prosperous community.

I’ll grow folks potatoes and gladly take Gold and Silver for them. I’m trying something I thought of looking at a stack of old tires. Assuming there is no problem of being poisoned by the old tires, I am going to fill them (three or four in a stack) with garden soil and grow potatoes. Harvest time, just remove the tires revealing hopefully a nice bag of potatoes. Will report late summer, early fall.

Do you take Maple Leafs? Better purity. .9999 opposed to .999.

Harrington –

Used to do this back when I lived in Colorado. It works. BUT…

Star the spuds in one tire then stack the next tire when the plants will just peek out the top and add soil to fill in about half that tire’s depth. Repeat in the same fashion with the next two tires.

Go for a sandy fill soil with not a lot of organic matter in it.

at this point don’t worry about being poisoned ,just grow the potatoes–the poison comes very slowly,if at all,the hunger pangs come rapidly —

Cut the sidewalls out of the tires. Then turn them inside out. The tread side of the tire has already leached out more toxins and the interior of the tire looks better exposed then the tread. You can then use the cut out sidewalls around the the trunk of trees, covered in mulch for a weed barrier.

If you’re in the game, just be quick on the draw whichever way it goes.
