Ominous Convergence

Guest Post by Jim Kunstler

And so, with the unjust killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, the quest for cosmic justice resumes — that is, the justice that settles all the scores of racial grievance for all time, which, of course, is unlikely to be satisfied by any means. Mr. Floyd was killed by police officer Derek Chauvin who knelt on Mr. Floyd’s neck for eight minutes with the full force of his weight while three other officers stupidly stood by watching and failed to intervene until Mr. Floyd was dead.

This time, there was no ambiguity in the killing, unlike the 2014 shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, that sparked a season of riots. Video from a bystander’s phone shows Officer Chauvin stupidly killing Mr. Floyd. The four policemen have reportedly been fired (NBC News), but no one has been charged yet. Two days of protests and nighttime riots have commenced in that city and are now spreading to cities around the country. With Memorial Day in the rearview mirror, you might say, as the old song goes, that summer’s here and the time is right for fighting in the streets.

It appears that the Progressive left is all for letting it rip. Their chief signaling device, The New York Times, ran this headline today: “National Guard Called as Minneapolis Erupts in Solidarity for George Floyd.”

That sounds to me a bit like a stamp-of-approval for a lawlessly violent response to an act of official stupidity. Is The Times in solidarity with the mayhem? Which raises some questions: how much rioting, looting, and arson will be enough to satisfy that sense of solidarity in the quest for justice? Three nights Three weeks? Three months? Will it cease if and when Officer Chauvin is charged with murder or manslaughter? How much rioting, looting, and arson will the authorities in other cities allow to rip before they move to forcefully stop it? Does all this disorder amplify itself in a feedback loop as it plays out?

Those would be tough questions in ordinary times, but we’re in an extraordinary convergence of crises that includes an unresolved Covid-19 pandemic, an unprecedented economic collapse, and the furious after-effects of a failed political coup that steeped the nation in delusion, institutional breakdown, and factional enmity. Black America is not the only group in the land that has an axe to grind.

For instance, with over 30-million suddenly unemployed, facing bankruptcy one way or another, maybe even eviction and hunger, and tens of thousands of small businesses failing, what will be the public mood if the stock markets keep shooting up and up and up, as they’ve been doing for a month? Those rising share values, which enrich a tiny percentage of the public, are a direct result of the Federal Reserve inflating the national debt by “printing” money-from-thin-air. It comes in the form of bonds, the interest on which ultimately has to be paid by taxpayers. Many will not fail to notice that it smells like scam. Will the economically floundering public revolt against it? Will they take to the streets and start burning down things other than police stations and AutoZones?

Could all that intersect with black street violence in cities across the land? A hint was suggested in cable TV video of rioters on the streets in Minneapolis hoisting a sign that said “kill all white people!” The Progressive Left has indulged and excused sentiments like that for years. (Remember New York Times editorial board hire, Sarah Jeong, tweeting “#CancelWhitePeople” and “dumbass fucking white people”?) What if those maledictions are acted out? Does the Left, including the Democratic Party, want to ignite a race war in America on top of a second great depression in a plague year?

Once cycles of violence are set in motion, they are very difficult to stop. The animosities between different groups in the USA are not so different in character from what’s been seen in other places around the world in recent times: the strife in Northern Ireland, the breakup of Yugoslavia, the civil war in Lebanon, the factional fighting in Libya, Syria, Iraq. All of them grew out of quests for cosmic justice, and all of those conflicts produced lasting damage to the societies they inflamed.

Donald Trump may appear poorly suited to presiding over such a national crackup. Many will accuse him of instigating it. Whatever he does is liable to be construed as wrong by half the nation, whether he acts decisively to put down actual insurrection, or dithers inconclusively while cities burn. His Democratic rival, Joe Biden, appears even less credibly capable of managing a crisis. He is, in fact, a Potemkin candidate for president, a stalking horse for forces and persons mysteriously awaiting emergence in Milwaukee around mid-August. It looks like some people will have to start deciding some things.

It’s called The Electric Boogaloo. New York Times approved for good measure. Get some in NYC.

The Evil Fuckers are overjoyed at the prospect of an extensive if not global pandemonium which they can then, at the timing of their choosing, employ all means and actors necessary to usher in The Beast System.

Really no one here is surprised about what is happening in Minneapolis. The police have been militarized all while the niggers have been emboldened. Liberal BS has caused Blacks to not fear anything. While whites are accused of being racist. Now to the point of the police running while these animals loot and burn down their station. This is what they have wrought, and done so on purpose. This as we all here know. Is not gonna end well. Both of these entities are gonna have to be reckoned with. One way or another!!!!

Bilco I think you are a troll. Here is why. In another perspective looting can be implied as sabotage since the majority of looting was done against corporations. When peace officers were converted to law enforcement that is when the people lost their protectors.

Ok if you are not a troll consider this: When the officer went into the process of murdering his victim the other three officers kept the public from interfering; while the victim was being murdered. Anyone watching the video can see that the murder was mechanical.

Now as a reaction to the murder with no arrest of the murderer their was widespread rioting and looting.

So now tell me what is more criminal: looting or murder? Reason would say murder.

So what is your point other than prejudice?

Jim, the “killing” has been outed as a hoax.

Do us a favor and get the fuck out of here with your matrix-narrative-supporting drivel.

There were over 170 businesses trashed / looted /set fire. They have closed all the Target stores / Mall of America / and suburban malls.

These fucking niggers even looted a Dollar Store. In the videos you can see the savages jumping up and down – just like the jungle.

Take a look at this list from powerlingblog.com

Once again the Blacks are being used and abused by the communist/Muslim infiltrated Dhimmicrat Party. I saw a crowd of a bit more than half non-Blacks. I am very sure many, many were Antifa with obvious cadres directing movement.

Yup, I saw the crowds and it was 50/50 regarding skin colors. I also saw the Antifa salute and the bullhorns leading the crowds. The marxists are in full throat, never let a crisis go to waste.

“Those rising share values, which enrich a tiny percentage of the public … ”

Obviously Kuntsler hasn’t heard of 401k or IRA or Roth-IRA or ordinary brokerage accounts for ordinary people — or of government or private industry pension funds … ALL of these are based upon investments in common stocks (among other things).

So … this constant whining about only ‘a tiny percentage of the public’ being enriched is just so much ignorance and bullshit masquerading as some sort of egalitarian virtue signaling.

Many of US have our entire retirement wrapped up in stocks and such … and we will be dead in the water if they don’t appreciate — especially as paychecks and wages are stable for years at a time while taxes increase, costs increase, bullshit increases …

I can’t believe the post you just wrote.
The people managing many of those puny-ass savings vehicles couldn’t shiv two gits about whether your 401k or self-managed brokerage account funds your retirement. Look around, the market is rigged and manipulated. Pension funds are mismanaged and underfunded, and even then, some of them limit the amount or types of assets you can deposit in them.
Instead of doubling down on a rigged casino find an alternative the government doesn’t track or kill you with fees and capital gains taxes … and act like no one is ever going to bail your ass out, because many times, they won’t.

He expressed a perspective that is correct assuming the world isn’t burning down completely, which we hope is not the case. As a long time investor I manage my own stuff. Any of you guys who depend on some adviser or are in some plan managed by someone else are grabbing the ankles. If you are not in charge and do not make the decisions based on your own due diligence you are more likely to get fuqued. No different than anything else.

HR, the problem with his view is that he has been dependent on FED gimmedats that screwed the overwhelming majority of the country. Ever since Alan Greenspan, if not longer. I’m sorry for him that the world is burning down, but for many of us sole breadwinners with children, we’ve been succeeding during 20 years of salary stagnation without the stock welfare.

Thanks for the silliest comment I’ve seen here in many years! You live in a dream world that would make mouths water among my former Wall St “colleagues”. Trust me,sir: no money manager gives a flying f&%$ about your future and with all due respect, if you rely on others to manage your “money”, well…

Tony,

Four tactics:

1. Pay down debt

2. Become your own centeral Bank.

3. Get into hard assests.

“Many of US have our entire retirement wrapped up in stocks”.

4. Pull your head out of your US ass.

“Black America is not the only group in the land that has an axe to grind.”

Sure they are, just ask Minneapolis Mayor McCunt.

It is why so many whites, because they are white, are murdered by blacks and abcnnbcbsnprfoxnews fail to report these murders as such.

I will caution many here to not let their biases blind them to what is going on here. Black dumbasses are being used as a screen for the now communist Democrat Party and their Antifa militia to terrorize the country. My little voices are all screaming that they intend to have paramilitary formations in the streets pretending to be outraged SJW’s protesting racism as a prelude.
If they are asking for it, we best be prepared to let them have it-good and hard!

Sadly, I have a bad suspicion you are right. A convergence of ill circumstances will provide them with another opportunity to use urban minorities to cause political turmoil. Denver, Chicago, NY, even Ohio having problems, too. Another incident with cops and incompetent government will be icing on the cake.

This reminds me of Germany 1930 to 1934 when the communists and the Fascists were battling of political power. Now it is the Democrats and Republicans.

Notice something here? During these riots and demonstrations going on right now it is multiple races from teenager to 40 years old. Most of these people are the ones thrown out of work because of this coronavirus. These people have nothing to do but take out their anger on the government; and the police who enforce government rules & regulations, for ruining their jobs and their social life.

What the people in government doesn’t understand is that they ruined millions of lives because of their own fear and incompetent reaction to this virus.

The most important fact that has been lost is that government in america was created to serve the people; not the corporations.

Lateral forces on the neck can’t occlude the trachea. What Floyd died of needs to be determined. The cop had his knee on the side of his neck. You can’t say “I can’t breathe” for 8 minutes because if you can talk you can breathe.

Where is the carotid artery? Where was his knee? What does lying prone on your face with hands handcuffed behind your back do to your breathing? Why do cops pull up a person after they’ve been handcuffed? That position causes compression asphyxia and leads to…are you ready? Death.
