‘Transsexual Satanist anarchist’ wins GOP nomination for sheriff in NH county
A self-described “transsexual Satanist anarchist” has won the Republican nomination for the sheriff’s job in Cheshire County, N.H. — a victory she says proves “the system is utterly and hopelessly broken.”
Aria DiMezzo, who ran with the campaign slogan “F*** the Police” and says she had expected to lose to a write-in candidate, won the nomination for Cheshire County sheriff on Tuesday. The victory was first reported by Inside Sources.
In a Friday blog post, DiMezzo said she opposes a system that allowed thousands of people to walk into a voting booth and vote “despite knowing absolutely nothing about the person they were nominating to the most powerful law enforcement position in the county.”
“I’m running for sheriff because I oppose that very system, and the sheriff has the most hands-on ability in Cheshire County to oppose that system,” she said. “The system that let you down by allowing me — the freaking transsexual Satanist anarchist — be your sheriff candidate is the same system I’m attacking. I’m sorry, and I know it hurts to hear, but that system is a lie.”
“The entire thing is a lie. It’s broken from beginning to end, and my existence as your sheriff candidate is merely how this reality was thrown into your face,” she said.
Inside Sources reports that she will now campaign against popular incumbent Democrat Eli Rivera, who is seeking a fifth term.
Marilyn Huston, the chair of the Cheshire County GOP, congratulated DiMezzo for the victory and told Inside Sources she “did very well with the primary and that was wonderful.” However, Huston said DiMezzo never showed up to GOP meetings and events, despite being invited.
According to the outlet, DiMezzo comes from a group of libertarian activists that has produced candidates before. DiMezzo hosts an internet radio show where she is referred to as a “She-Male.”
DiMezzo said in her blog post that her victory in the primary was an argument for anarchism because of how “clueless the average voter is.” She garnered 4,211 votes, easily beating a traditional candidate who received only a few hundred votes, election results show.
“Sweet Satan, how can you not be an anarchist?!” she wrote. “Between 75 and 80 percent of the primary voters — the ones alleged to be more politically aware than the average voter — were completely and totally ignorant of who they were voting for! What is the percentage with the average voter? 90 percent? 95 percent? These people are deciding who gets to rule you,” she said, before calling on Cheshire County to secede from both New Hampshire and the U.S.

I think it was trying to make the point that the system is so worthless that people would vote for someone without even realizing who was running just because of party affiliation.
EDIT: Nevermind… I see how/why he won. Ran uncontested and was expecting enough voters to write in an alternative.
Eh… this isn’t that big of a deal… if the party can’t be bothered to run anyone else then he’s actually the best candidate for the party for that location. Might motivate someone to run for real next time.

This case is even stranger than that though. This wasn’t voting along party lines.
This was entirely a contest among Republicans… he won the Republican nomination and NOW has to run against the Democrat. Where he’ll certainly lose because he’s going up against an incumbent.
It doesn’t make any sense why he won the R nomination unless it was a protest vote against the local GOP to intentionally put up a loser.
Alternatively perhaps you don’t have to be registered to vote in a party’s nomination process in that area and a bunch of people in on the joke went and voted.
I’m not buying this guy’s story that he has no idea how he won.
If you vote for someone you know nothing about you’re definitely part of the problem. This is just another example of why the founders chose a representative republic form of government versus a true democracy. Same goes for the electoral college for president.

Nor do I get this guy’s (*) argument–he says we’re too stupid for democracy, but my feeling is that the anarcho-libertarian paradise he presumably wants makes even higher demands on people’s minds and morals.

To be fair, Cheshire County, NH has a population of 76,000. I highly doubt this person is going to have trouble being Sheriff in a county so small.

I get downvotes when I suggest that the Libertarian Party plank to have None of the Above be an option in EVERY race in EVERY election in America. And if NOTA wins, the NONE of the candidates running get to run in the re-do. Seriously, THAT is an election improvement that everyone should get behind (especially after the past 10 or so presidential elections we have seen)….and the one being discussed here.
Clearly this man has mental health issues, but when HE makes more sense regarding the political system than nearly 100% of the folks currently holding office, you have to know this country is in serious trouble.
I didn’t know there were ANY Republicans in Cheshire County. In fact, I believe that there are probably more “transsexual Satanist anarchists” than there are Republicans out there.
