Jerry Harris, the now-disgraced star of the Netflix docuseries Cheer, was arrested this week on federal child-pornography charges – and admitted to authorities he’s exchanged sexually-explicit photos and videos with underage boys. Harris also repeatedly solicited minor children to meet up and perform sexual acts with him at cheerleading events in 2019.
In a 28-page court document, the allegations against Harris are detailed from graphic text and social media interactions. Harris allegedly requested pictures of a boy’s “face and booty” – even after learning the boy was only 13-years old:
“Do it naked and take a video and show me,” Harris purportedly wrote to the boy on Snapchat. Harris allegedly also sent a message on Snapchat to the boy’s twin brother, asking if he “would ever want to ****”.
According to the court complaint, Harris “admitted to soliciting and receiving child pornography on Snapchat from at least between 10 to 15 other individuals” that he knew were underage despite only being charged with one count of producing child pornography so far.
Despite his own alleged admissions, representatives for Harris have denied the twins’ claims.
The twin siblings have sued Harris for $1 million claiming Harris “groomed” them for sex.
The suit accuses Harris of exploiting his notoriety and fame from starring in the Netflix series and that the boys looked up to Harris as their “mentor” and thusly complied with his demands. If convicted, Harris faces a minimum of 15 years – and a maximum of 30 – in prison.
Also alleged in the complaint is Harris engaging in anal and oral sex with a 15-year old boy at a cheerleading event in 2019, along with exchanging explicit photos with 2 17-year old boys, enticing one of them with money.
Federal investigators have said their investigation is ongoing – which leaves the possibility that more charges will be brought against Harris.
Lawyers Morgan Stewart and Sarah Klein, attorneys for the twin boys, praised the fast action of investigators:
We are grateful that the U.S. Attorney and the FBI have taken swift action to protect children by investigating, arresting, and charging Jerry Harris. This was made possible because our clients’ mother had the courage to report Harris to the FBI as well as the Fort Worth Police Department and provided evidentiary proof of the manipulation, sexual harassment, abuse, and exploitation that her sons had suffered. We urge the authorities to undertake a thorough investigation of the United States All Star Federation, Varsity Spirit, and Cheer Athletics to determine which of their executives, employees, and representatives could have stopped Harris’ abuse and failed to do so.
A Netflix spokesperson said in a statement regarding Harris’ arrest: “Like everyone we are shocked by this news. Any abuse of minors is a terrible crime and we respect the legal process.”
It’s apparent that Netflix fails to see the complete hypocrisy in condemning Harris’ actions while also encouraging people to watch Cuties and give it a chance in the same breath.
To most, the sexualization of the 11-year old girls in Cuties is “abuse of minors” – enabled by an international, multi-million dollar corporation at that. It’s sick, disgusting, and utterly tone-deaf of Netflix to pretend they care at all about the exploitation of children because they most certainly do not.
