My son graduated college last December. Because it is a small school they hold the actual ceremony in the spring so December and May graduation are combined. Corona cancelled that event but my son still had paid for his cap and gown.
Yesterday we visited my son and planned to take some pictures with him on campus in as a simulated graduation day. My son usually worked at least 2 jobs while in school and graduated with zero debt between scholarships, his savings, our contributions. He had already started employment in his career before finishing classes. He is rightfully proud of his accomplishment and yesterday was our chance to show him we are proud too.
When we arrived at campus the security person at the gate informed us that the campus was closed. When my son explained who he was and why we were there he told us that we could drive through but if we stopped and got out of the vehicle we would be charged with Defiant Trespass. I am defiant and known to trespass. But since we had grandparents with us and it is a private university I held my tongue.
From there we went to the Valley Forge National Park for some pictures. There was literally thousands of people enjoying the park, touring the sites, and otherwise enjoying a fall day. A small percentage of park visitors were masked up but that was their business and they seemed to have no interest in our being maskless. As we took our pictures many passers-by wished my son congratulations.
When I saw the Washington encampment I was struck by the horrible irony. That park, full of thousands of visitors marked the place where a rag-tag group of patriots were willing to risk their lives. Even though they were outnumbered, outgunned, and undersupplied they were willing to walk miles through the snow in winter to fight for their freedom. In contrast their legacy, us, has willingly traded those freedoms for security despite the warning of doing exactly that.
We have allowed ourselves to be cowered into submission by an ill wind. An alleged virus that we cannot see, most don’t even know they have, and will kill less than 4 of every thousand infected has caused trading of freedom for false security on scale never seen before in The Republic.
I salute our European brothers and sisters for standing up. On this issue they have gotten it right. Here, the Pussification of America continues.
