The low influenza numbers are a result of the Covid-19 protocols people are observing.

As we finish painting the new hospital in town I’ve become close to a few “higher ups” in the administration chain.
As it was explained to me, thanks to shutting down basic services and the fear generated by the media keeping people away from hospitals for fear of dying of rhona, they are hemorrhaging cash.
And yes they admitted to taking the $13k per covid case every chance they could, but described it as you would throw $1,000 away but scoop to pick up $1.oo
We and other trades were asked to provide thousands in scope reductions for the remaining renovation of existing spaces because they are out of money.
A friend’s wife is a nurse. Her hospital has closed down a lot of non-essential surgeries and the like so her hours are cut to almost nothing. She was contacted about a 3 month contract position at a nearby hospital. $100+ per hour to work 2 12 hour shifts. She is welcome to work a third, possibly more if census increases. She accepted in a heartbeat.
The only catch is that it is the Corona ward. She has already had it and wasn’t scared of it to begin with. If they are getting $13K per patient I can see how they are paying out these salaries in rural PA.
