Things got off to a bad start even before I was born. My parents were married in Austria (a racist country). That’s not them above. They are just another Austrian white couple … just like my parents. My parents never saw a black person until they came to America. But, instead of vacationing in Berchtesgaden they could have gone to the Congo, taking some Apfel Strudel to a poor Negro. They did not. This makes them racist. I wish one of my parents were black.
That’s me, just moments before my conception. So damned Lilly white! I wish I wasn’t the best swimmer in the bunch. But, if I recall correctly, all my brothers and sisters were white also. At least they’re dead now.

I went to a Catholic School (St. Peter’s) in Newark, NJ. That’s because my parents weren’t to keen with me going to a government school “mit die Schwartzen“. Really. Almost all nuns wear that penguin outfit. Did my nuns? Noooo, they went with that Catholic KKK option. The nun who ran the joint, I believe her last name was “Superior“. All the other nuns would culturally appropriate colorful Negro slang (I think that’s what it was) by calling her “Mother“.
How did class start every damned day? With a racist act! There were exactly two Negro kids in the entire school. Not my class, upperclassmen. Fifth grade, I believe. Big kids. Maybe 15 or 16 years old. I didn’t know them at all. My only interaction with them was overhearing them on the school playground. For the longest time I thought her name was “Yobitch“, and his name was “Niggah“. That’s exactly how it went down! I loved school! I hated school! I loved my three favorite subjects; religion, spelling, and geography. I hated my least favorite subject, math. And no wonder. Math is racist!! Deep in the subconscious recesses of my Austrian neurons I somehow knew that the multiplication tables (I especially loathed those damned racist 8’s and 9’s) where nothing but a bunch of Hate Symbols of Whiteness run amuck towards Blacks, Mexicans, Native Americans, Canadians and all other oppressed peoples of the world!
For example; learning math in a linear fashion with skills taught in sequence, knowing the steps to calculate fractions, showing your work, asking students to raise their hands to be called on, the very idea of right answers ….. all of it, from Archimedes to Einstein … just a White Plan to stick it to Da Man. Meanwhile, that Chinese first grader doing math in the above picture? I have a feeling she’ll be YOUR boss someday.
Saturday was the best day of all, Fun Day at the movies. For fifty cents I got to see two movies, plus a cartoon, plus popcorn and a soda … and a nickle left over! But, alas, even the simple joys of a kid watching a movie wasn’t what it appeared to be. It was more like an extension of school, or even a prelude to church; if Spike Lee made a movie about my movie-going proclivities he’d call it “When White Kids Go Batshit Crazy“.
From 30 Comedy Movies That couldn’t Be Made Today I learned that “Airplane” — one of the funniest movies of all time — is racist (see above video). From the 50 Most Racist Movies I learned that “Planet Of The Apes” — one of the best SciFi movies of all time — is not a deep allegory about race, politics, and power but, rather, it’s about “light-skinned apes commanding thuggish dark-skinned apes as fearful whiteys cower in terror.” I learned that “Green Mile” is not about love, redemption, and forgiveness but, rather, about a black “docile, bumbling buffoon incapable of doing anything but easing the lives of (and raping) white people.”

Not so very long ago I mentioned that my husband and I had not seen any black people on our most recent ventures off this property and into “town.”
We went to Farmington today and visited the Tractor Supply store as well as the local Farm and Ranch store. We stopped by Lowe’s but we no longer even look at Walmart or other big stores. I am halfway done reading a book about the American Revolution, “Scars of Independence”. I was a bit surprised at how the Founding Fathers, some whom became presidents, treated the Indian. With treachery, deceit, and often brutality. But, when the Indians switched sides, — which happened often but on a tribe-by-tribe and region-by-region basis — we treated them as great buddies. For a while, anyway.

I have had virtually zero first-hand interactions with Indians. I speak mostly from a place far away.
I see how they live … again, from documentaries, internet articles, etc. Who can believe what these days? It appears that most of them are tremendously poor, far lower down the totem pole (pun intended) than any other group in America. Education attainment isn’t so hot either.
I want to say I feel sorry for them. But, no one likes pity, especially a proud Native American, I suspect.
I believe they are in their current state of affairs because of government policy down through the decades, even centuries. “Big Daddy will take care of you, now fuck off and live over there!”. How debilitating! A crushing of the soul.
I also think that they bring much of their current travails upon themselves …. especially the alcoholism and drug usage. They must learn to accept responsibility, if they want any hope of breaking the cycle.

First, re education, yes, some First Nations people get free University. But funds are severely limited, so only about 1/3 who wish to go get funded. And it is not about the band stealing it -the govt simply allocates little money.
Re paying no income taxes, that only applies to income earned on the reservations. Which is exceedingly low, given the high poverty rates. Any money earned off of reservations is taxable.
Your comments re healthcare are also misleading. Look it up yourself, but the fact is that health services accessible by First Nation people severely lags that of the rest of the country.
You should not parrot narratives, but should look this stuff up. The same type claims are made re Native Americans, but the claims are almost universally false.

I only recently learned that during the American slavery period, the vast majority of Africans enslaved went to South America and the Spanish-held islands, not to what would become the USA. Sure didn’t teach me that in school.

I don’t buy that. That belief irritates me to no end. Here’s why.
1)— When did it become a disease? Well, the AMA deemed alcoholism as a disease of the brain in 1956. Before that, it was rightfully viewed as a choice. The medical field loves to classify as many things as possible as a disease. If there was a way to classify picking your nose as a disease, they would. Why? There’s big $$$ in “curing” diseases, real or imagined.
2)— Actually, the AMA built upon the work of a then noted psychiatrist, E. M. Jellinek, who in the 1930s wrote a widely read book which defined the concept of alcoholism as a medical disease. Jellinek is often called the father of the disease theory or model of alcoholism.
3)— The “disease model” is pretty much universally accepted today. Going 8 pages deep in a Youtube search I couldn’t find a single video stating alcoholism is a choice. But, even so, NO medical expert says it’s 100% genetic. All of then state it’s 50% genetic, and 50% cultural/environmental/etc.
4) One MD web site stated — “Labeling alcoholism as a disease instead of merely deviant behavior can make medical treatment more accessible.” There ya go!! “Treatment” = $$$$.
5) There was a time when humans lived where alcohol was not yet invented. So, these “alcohol genes” somehow must have somehow come into being after the invention of alcohol. I’m no geneticist … but, that sounds ridicules.
6) A big reason I hate the disease model is that this theory and approach doesn’t offer a real solution for people to stop abusing alcohol. — “Hey, it’s in my genes, man! There’s NOTHING I can do about it!”. We are doing alcoholics NO favor by giving them such a convenient built-in excuse.
