Chemical and GMO Farming: Health versus Wealth

While researching alternatives to copper sulfate for clearing unwanted amphibians from our pond, I came upon a recently released video I believe might be banned for its audacity to call Monsanto by name.

Oh, and my girl maybe was right.

We will dredge the pond and dispose safely of the toxic sludge.

Well, I hope you’re being sincere here. I know for a fact that copper sulfate is deadly and that there are other options for removing frogs….I have a friend who has devoted years to changing the soil on her property. She’s an organic farmer, raises meat sheep and all manner of poultry too. She is constantly going on about soil bacteria and soil renewal, using wood chips and other organic matter to bolster the soil because, as she states, the soil is life. No pesticides, she lets nature do its thing and she has barn cats that kill the snakes and rodents. She grows cauliflowers the size of basketballs and she is slowly reclaiming land that was dead from overuse of pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilizers.

The preponderance of chemicals used in farming is staggering and the consequences are easily seen. Chemicals are convenient, easy to spray: glyphosate to dry a grain crop for harvest, fast and easy, not so easy to remove the glyphosate from your body though. Ditto for all the other pesticides and chemical fertilizers sprayed so lavishly all over, millions of tons worth and it all makes it into the ground water and you get to eat and drink poison. You are what you eat.

My stock tanks are wonderful little ecosystems, fish, frogs, turtles, birds and….snakes. Frogs eat mosquito larvae, their little tadpoles are voracious, water birds eat the snakes and frogs, the bass eat whatever they can catch, it all balances out and it’s nice to be able to got down to the tanks and not worry about chemical burns and dead wildlife . I also keep the tall grass mowed down so I can see snakes and remove debris that they like to hide and nest in .

Mags,

Do a pictorial essay on your dredging of the pond. Some may be interested. Me.

Having eaten both kinds of mushrooms, I must admit the whole point of taking the psychoactive ones was to indeed be deceived for a while, but instead I stared in great interest at the world and the people around me, feeling and seeing the flow of the Earth. That probably makes no sense to the uninitiated, but I’ve never seen a greater beauty than watching the sun set and the colors both it and the sky turned as night fell. Unforgettable.

Thousands of years of American/Mexican Indians can also attest to how spiritual psilocybin (yes you spelt it right) is, when used properly. That and peyote, which made me throw up, but it’s actually supposed to if you’re doing that right. But the magic mushrooms were 10x better, to me anyway.

They grow wild in my part of the country.

Forget mushrooms. Go grow some Datura, it will set you free.

Psilocybin is related to the neurotransmitter serotonin, they are both derivatives of Tryptophan which is an essential amino acid. Unlike Extasy (man-made) and Mescaline (peyote cactus), which are both amphetamines, it appears to be well tolerated and quite benign relative to the psychological benefits. It appears to re-align the psyche after disturbances of one kind or another without significant negative effects, according to those who have investigated deeply.

My path as a research scientist through the PHARMAFIA was quite similar to that of the creator of the video that is the subject of this post by Ghost. After 20 years of seeing all the poisons that were being sold as panacea to non-existent disease, that actually created more disease than was cured (side effects are actually the product), I just walked away in the middle of a very lucrative career. No regrets and now I grow food and whiskers, make wine and harbor a deep suspicion of “authority” and “experts”.

Once upon a time, medical science discovered diseases and invented cures to treat them with. Now, the PHARMAFIA discovers DRUGS and invents diseases to treat with them. Same goes for agricultural “science”.

What’s with the sludge in your pond? What’s with the amphibians? Amphibians probably means your water is at least somewhat clean. It’s the pond with nothing in them that are scary.

I guess I don’t understand why you want to poison frogs? Too many ponds around here have no frogs, no fish, no nothing but fowl passing through. Unless the ‘stuff’ was barrels of agent orange, I don’t know what could be so bad and still have life. Is it all fish, or have you tried fish that don’t need help with getting them air? Is it algae?

Trash around here seems to be cars and fridges and metal, or pure chemical poison.

Wow. Working in agriculture its amazing just how much of a staple glyphosate has become. It is generally seen as the bread and butter of crop management. Before watching that video if I had heard glyphosate was going to be banned I would have had grave fears as weeds would radically lower crop yields meaning less food and the use of toxic alternatives such as paraquat. After watching that I feel we need more research on the points he covered by people who cannot be brought by bayer/monsanto.

We don’t even need the crop yields we get. The chinese might. Africa might. Not our problem.

I used to use the stuff, but now I wonder, how does poisoning everything help us? The whole concept is fucked up.

Nothing like a nice glyphosate and bacon sammich in the morning!

I’m extending George Carlin’s theory of eating germs — your immune system NEEDS the practice to kill them — to chemicals. I shall not fear a little glyphosate in my body!! My body needs the practice.

Maggie, I worry that you are becoming Panophobic — a person who fears everything. That’s no way to live.

Old quote from an old doc all have probably seen: Unless we put medical freedoms into the Constitution, the time will come when medicine will organize into an undercover dictatorship to restrict the art of healing to one class of Men and deny equal privileges to others; the Constitution of this republic should make special privilege for medical freedom as well as religious freedom. – Benjamin Rush

The constitution prescription, at the least, became “resistant” over time. But the diagnosis is completely accurate.

Ya’ll know about the Rockefellers, Carnegie, the Flexner/s report. Healthcare is a cartel. Cartels don’t compete to serve customers. Or even “patients.” Cartels victimize, & suck out economic rents in the process. Health doesn’t offer the booty that disease does. So its Bastiat’s Window, but instead of breaking plate glass to goose “the economy,” its breaking people.

And the cartels interlock. Feedback & feed forward.
