Previously other disaster movies start out by the government ignoring science.

Or as in “V For Vendetta” and our current situation, the government was INVOLVED in science for no good reason and with evil intent.
I have seen every movie on the list FWIW.

Pathetic that ET won the Oscar over Poltergeist for special effects. 1950s special effects using a bicycle instead of a flying man. One of the key moments that showed the Oscars to be nothing but crap.

Don’t forget John Carpenter’s The Thing. It was released the same year as E.T. and Poltergeist and lost out on the special effects Oscar as well.

Didn’t realize that. Didn’t see it that year, but have many times since. Indeed, better special effects than Poltergeist.

Airplane! was my blueprint for tormenting customers and crewmembers when I worked in the airline industry.

Literalism drives people insane. It kept me sane driving all those idiots insane.

ZFG, out.

P.S. The plane wont be able to fly until we sacrifice a baby or flight attendant to the turbofan engine gods. So sayeth the great engine gods.

I should do airline employee inner monologues.

Those were what corrupted people in the 80s. How do you think we got here? People being socialized by Hollywood Jews, that’s how

So many other excellent movies were missed … unless, of course, I missed some sort of pattern here meant to convey a message …

These are from the list of the top 10 grossing films in the years shown:

1980: Stir Crazy (Gene Wilder/Richard Pryor); The Blues Brothers (John Belushi/Dan Ayckroyd)

1981: Arthur (Dudley Moore); The Cannonball Run (Burt Reynolds/Jackie Gleason); Time Bandits (Sean Connery/John Cleese)

1982: Porky’s; 48 Hours (Nick Nolte/Eddie Murphy

1983: Flash Dance (Jennifer Beals — ’nuff said); Trading Places (Dan Ayckroyd/Eddie Murphy); Risky Business (Tom Cruise/Rebecca de Mornay)

1984: Beverly Hills Cop (Eddie Murphy/Judge Reinhold); Gremlins (Zach Galligan/Phoebe Cates); Police Academy (Kim Cattrall/Bubba Smith); Romancing The Stone (Kathleen Turner/Danny DeVito); Splash (Tom Hanks/Daryl Hannah

1985: Back To The Future (Michael J Fox); Witness (Kelly McGillis/Harrison Ford)

1986: Crocodile Dundee (Paul Hogan/Linda Kozlowski)

1987: Fatal Attraction (Glenn Close/Michael Douglas); Good Morning, Vietnam (Robin Williams – ’nuff said); Moonstruck (Cher/Nicolas Cage); Lethal Weapon (Mel Gibson/Danny Glover); The Witches Of Eastwick (Jack Nicholson – ’nuff said)

1988: Twins (Arnold Schwarzenegger/Danny DeVito); A Fish Called Wanda (Jamie Lee Curtis/John Cleese); Cocktail (Tom Cruise/Elisabeth Shue)

1989: Honey, I Shrunk The Kids (Rick Moranis/Marcia Strassman); Born On The Fourth Of July (Tom Cruise/Kyra Sedgwick)

The 80’s are now “The Good Ole’ Days”. Those movies may not have been cerebral but at least the were not about flamers , trannies and blacks being the all- knowing, wise leaders. Movies are regurgitating now, I don’t know how filmmakers stay afloat.

Why was that so aging. Damned if I might get on my 180Hp 140N/m torque KTM 1290 motorcycle and pull a few very long wheelies at 70Mph just to be sure at 67 I fear very little these days. Cancer can suck my DeeK but it will win ….. eventually.
