Hump Day Tuneage

by the subway philosopher™

On occasion, celebrating the midweek hump with a meticulously curated selection of the most disrespectful, impolite, disgraceful, badass, head-banging, disturbing, irreverent, rebellious, most enjoyable rock n roll of its time feels like a perfectly responsible thing to do, for some reason. Or no reason at all. Crank it up!

Carlos isn’t that great of a guitar player in the realm of other greats. What he does have is his own “Tone” . Just like other guitar players you knew who was playing in the first few bars of a song. B.B. King comes to mind in that regard .

It’s not just the notes he plays, it’s the mistakes he doesn’t. I can play along with him 98% of the way, but then I’ll hit a slightly sour note every 30 seconds or so. Something few in a bar would notice. That 2% makes all the difference.

Good point.
My friend Tom, whom I wrote about, was a serious Beatles fan. He conceded that individually they weren’t all that special. But together, and with their unique ‘tone’, he considered them the greatest (not best) band in history. He was referencing their creativity, influence and public appeal. Right or wrong, he also made a good point.

I saw him in Chicago at the Metro in the early 90s. Fantastic show. I don’t think my present sensibilities would enjoy it. It was a show, not a concert, though. He is an entertainers, not an artist, but he is a good one.
