RIP Doctor de Vaca (aka Cow Doctor)
This has happened too many times over the twelve years – losing virtual friends far too soon. It’s always a punch in the gut.
His wife Debbie found my name in his email list and sent me an email to let me know he had passed away from Covid. His last comment on TBP was November 19 and he passed away on November 30. His real name was Donald. He arrived on TBP in December 2019 and immediately became one of our best commenters.
He had a great sense of humor, oozed common sense and wisdom, was never nasty, was clearly a great family man, and was truly a huge positive for the website. He wasn’t all that secretive about his identity, so I think a link to his obituary to honor him is worthwhile.

Oh no. I wondered why he hadn’t posted in a while. His comments were always kind, often funny and usually wise. I loved the motorcycle stories to South Dakota. Looking at the obituary, he died on his birthday. Makes me truly sad. From now on, we all have to take our Ivermectin horse paste without approval by our favorite vet.

Someone dying on their birthday always catches my eye. Christian families can usually find peace in it, in that God brought them into and took them out of this dash we call life on the same date.

I never got into an argument with the doc. Never. He was too nice a guy … confirmed by his picture, he has such kind and gentle eyes.
His obituary shows what an amazing man he was … and we didn’t know the half of it. I have literal tears in my eyes and I’m gonna miss him, very much.

Reverse Engineer’s last comment on “Following in the footsteps of the doomstead diner” was August 25th just before he was to get a prostrate operation and then go into assisted living home. Now deceased?
His website no longer exists. I take that as a bad sign, since that was his pride and joy.
RE is still around but he’s been through a lot. Several months ago after years of suffering I believe he finally received a prosthetic leg.

This is very sad news. I’ll miss his astute and humourous remarks.
A lot has been said about the vaccines though sometimes we miss the easily ignored fact that the Johnson & Johnson is not MRNA based. Yes, the Johnson & Johnson is not perfect though for the compromised, it may help lessen the symptoms while not having the cloud which surrounds the MRNA vaxes.

Everybody dies of covid, cancer, heart, accidents , all covid all the time. Too bad it was Doc’s time to go. Putting the covid label on it was not necessary.
A very sad read. And very sobering since I am the same age as the good Doc. As a veterinarian, I’m sure he did everything he could to beat this, just makes me wonder if there were other complicating factors involved.

He mentioned quite frequently that he was on prophylactic IVM, mostly to protect his dad, so I, too, wonder if there were other issues.

I’m not wanting to disrupt the comments and the condolences for the passing of Doc Lavaca, I appreciate all the kind words and love being exhibited. However, I wonder, did I read it right? He died from Covid? As a veterinarian he most certainly had access to ivermectin and other drugs suggested for use as treatment protocols for covid. Something is very odd here.
Again, I apologize for interrupting the comment thread, but, I really am concerned about his stated cause of death.
I’m wondering if he got the vaxx. It seems that they are still blaming COVID for death of other causes including reactions to the vacine.
I think it is up to the reporting hospital. My mom died in late Feb this year, shortly after her 2nd covid shot. She went in with heart inflamation, had a stroke caused by a blood clot which lead to bleeding on the brain but PVH of UCH system says she didn’t die of covid. But they wouldn’t admit the clot shot killed her either. Anyways, I always looked forward to the Doc’s comments and his plans to leave Colorado and retire elsewhere.
While Ivermectin has shown to be very effective against the Commie flu it’s not a panacea. I’ve got a supply coming and along with zinc I hope it’s going to be enough should I come down with it but I know that there are no guarantees. When it’s my time to go, well, I’ve got to go.

It is really sad news because he was not that old, and didn’t seem to be in poor shape. My uncle passed away the other day, but he was 90 (just had his birthday also); it too was unexpected, but he certainly lived a full life.
A fate that awaits us all. It’s the way it is but I hate losing virtual friends. Say hi to BB, Doc.

Thanks for linking to his obituary. Learning more about the person behind the screen names here makes me wistful. We only get the merest glimpse of who someone is on this site, but it’s no surprise to learn that Doctor de Vaca was a man in full.

Well fuck, that sucks. Don was my only physical connection to a human being from The Burning Platform, we met for lunch and shit talking a number of times at Tommy’s subs. Comisserating mainly about what a progessive shit hole the front range has degenerated into.
I enjoyed every conversations we had, and would like to extend my gratitude to Admin for creating a space for us shit throwing monkeys to connect. A sentiment Don expressed repeatedly in conversation, he loved this place from the moment he found it, as so many of us do.

RIP… but from Covid? Really? Not sure I believe it was FROM Covid. Maybe WITH Covid, but not from it.
Caught it in SD. Never really recovered. Turns out it was a super spreader event. Covid is real and deadly.
Who caught it in SD? DeVaca? His post about the Sturgis rally was from 2020.
I feel bad he died, but I don’t believe it was FROM covid. As we know, they attribute covid as the cause of death whenever they can get away with it. So say someone comes into the hospital having a heart attack, they run a PCR test cycled at 45 on the person and find “covid,” then the person goes into cardiac arrest and dies: this is considered a “covid death” and recorded as such, and the hospital gets some $$.
It would be nice to have more information. There’s a big difference between “from” covid and “with” covid.
My brother died at home last fall; if anyone should have been a candidate for the china virus it would have been him, but even in his bad health he stayed home-other than doctors visits and Sunday church-and he avoided people for the most part. Was curious, so sent off for a copy of his death certificate to see what the county had entered under”cause of death”. It was just as expected had it been pre-covid, meaning natural casues (though full of “co-morbidities”). Maybe dying at home lets the truth out versus dying in the hospital allows them to profit even more.

I guess his wife is lying, right? You are effectively questioning her integrity, and every indication is she is a fine, honest, upstanding woman, or she would not have been with the Doc.
We had a long distance customer die a few months ago. We knew he went in for a pretty Dangerous neck operation. We didn’t hear from him and finally contacted his family. His wife said he made it through the operation really well but developed blood clots which got him. She seemed oblivious to the implications However it had just happened so she was pretty out of it. Not That Doc had gotten the vaxxxx, just who knows about drs and hospital scum.

I don’t think he is accusing doc’s wife of lying. His wife may just be repeating what SHE was told, and he’s questioning that, not her integrity.
I, myself, upon reading that his death was attributed to Covid immediately had the same reaction …. “how could that be??”, I thought. After all, as a veterinarian, he had ample access to ivermectin, which he never doubted was effective. I also am with the folks here who think (it’s a guess, for sure) that he died WITH Covid, not OF Covid.
On the other hand, even if he took Invermectin, as karalan noted below ….. Ivermectin isn’t a magical cure that ALWAYS works. Sadly, some folks will die OF Covid even if they take ivermecin, vitamins, etc.etc.
“With” “of” ”covid” is a PCR spin-cycle con used to appropriate as many deaths by whatever actual causes as possible.
Key to big lies is repetition – lots & lots of “cycles” – and loving survivors, traumatized by loss, are all too often wet enough with grief to be wrung out & mulcted – used – good & hard for even more.

If they put “Covid” as the cause of death on his death certificate, and that’s what the doctors told her was the cause of death, then she merely relayed the information she was given.
That doesn’t mean she’s lying, it means the information she was given could be incorrect. And, as we know, these hospitals have $$ incentives to classify as many deaths as possible as “Covid,” and the vast majority of doctors are scared shitless to buck the system, so they go along to get along (and survive).

What a great tribute…Common man but with a hint of the divine in his posts. I am a little shell – shocked as it was his advice that I followed to get through the China Flu around Halloween – horse paste and all. God bless this man and his family – my guess is that we saw a small part of this man’s impact on our temporary world and I look forward to seeing his impact on the eternal. He is on my list of folks to look up once I am done here.

It’s the strangest thing. This is the only place where I’ve ever gotten to know people without ever getting to meet them and feel an immense loss upon their passing. Like El Coyote before you, I’m really going to miss you Cow Doctor. Friday Fail will never be quite the same. I will get to meet you when my time comes. My prayers are with your family.

I am still struggling with this. He was way too young. He was a Cow Doc . He knew about Ivermectin and HCQ.. It does not add up. Regardless, as soon as he signed on he became a Fantastic Friday Fail Family man who became indispensable on FF. He spoke often of his Dad that, he said had little time left, and just wanted to make it till age 90. I can’t imagine his Dad’s pain today. May God soothe his soul.. This is one of the toughest ever. Totally out of nowhere.
When I saw the article. I thought initially that Don had written a tribute to his deceased Dad, thus it shook me badly to find out otherwise, and it still does. AP is correct. This is the downside, the sad side, of TBP town. My heart aches tonight…

I found out this week that an old coworker of mine had died of Covid.
Other than being 71, he had no comorbities.
He was unvaxxed and when his oxygen levels kept falling he refused to go on the ventilator and died.
All that was shared with me from someone who knew him better than me.
Strange times.
