To wit: if you read this passage at face value, then the descendants of Abram are all blessed – that would include Arabs/Muslims through Ishmael – not just the “Jews” (however they may be defined currently), or the Christians that rejected the Pharisees and came under a “new covenant”.
To get where you want to go, you have to follow the “interpretation” (I guess derived from subsequent revelation through prophets) that this passage somehow only applies to “Jews” – the putative descendants of Judah. Then you also have to explain how the “blessing of authority” that Jacob gave to Judah supersedes or outranks the birthright that he (Jacob) passed to Joseph’s sons (Gen 48:5-20, 1 Chr 5:1-2), and not to Judah – patriarch of the Judahites, who lived in the Kingdom of Judea, where their Torah-based religion (originally shared with the other Israelite tribes) eventually got highjacked and bastardized by the Pharisees. You know, the group that Jesus stridently opposed.
After the Pharisees murdered Jesus – destroying the “old covenant”, no? I simply seek truth, and am willing to consider alternatives to the extremely naive position of believing that the bible as written has not been tampered with at all.
Logic and empirical evidence (see islam) both dictate that religions throughout history have been a supreme tool for social control and manipulation and, as such, the bible as the #1 best-seller of all time would be ripe for “creative revisions”. Scholars have proven that it was not written chronologically (e.g. genesis was written after dueteronomy), that some books have multiple authors (e.g. Isaiah), and the authorship of many books is disputed (e.g. some of Paul’s letters) and mis-attributed and/or unknown (e.g. Ecclesiastes, revelations). Moreover, what has been excised that we don’t (and won’t ever) know about?
There’s also the story of the priests and/or handlers that tell the King (I forget which one) that they “found” a copy of the the scriptures (torah) in the remains of the temple sometime after the return from babylon. More likely it was pre-written in babylon, sort of like how the patriot act was all ready to go right after 9/11…

God told us Israel would be born again (Can a nation be born in a day?). So Zionism is just the desire for Israel to exist again and remain existing. The conversion of Israel to recognizing Yashua as their Messiah is a coming step. Those who read prophecy look forward to the day the Israelites declare, “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.”

Stucky, I am a mid-Acts dispensationalist. Under that doctrine I understand that today’s Israel is counterfeit. I do not believe that Israel must be a nation for the second coming to take place. I believe that the second coming will take place to create the REAL nation Israel of God. That nation that was supposed to be the channel of blessing from God to the world.
