SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
nkit, and Steve C.

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

Mozart: Sinfonia concertante Es-Dur KV 297b

Here is an excellent piece composed by Mozart.

It is a 32 minute symphony that sounds beautiful.

This piece makes for some good Sunday morning, afternoon or evening listening.

Yuja Wang – Mozart – Turkish March

A short encore by Yuja Wang to which someone had commented underneath Yuja to Mozart: “Not enough notes!”

That made me laugh so hard, I cried tears of laughter.

Dessner: Violinkonzert

Today, I’d like to play a piece of music composed by American composer and musician, Bryce Dessner.

Bryce David Dessner (born April 23, 1976) is an American composer and guitarist based in Paris, also known as a member of the rock band the National. Dessner’s twin brother Aaron is also a member of the group. Together they write the music, in collaboration with lead singer / lyricist Matt Berninger.

In addition to his work with the National, Dessner is known for his independent work as a composer.

His orchestral, chamber, and vocal compositions have been commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Metroplitan Museum of Art, (for the New York Philharmonic) Kronos Quartet, Carnegie Hall, BAM Next Wave Festival, Barbican Centre, Edinburgh International Festival, Sounds From A Safe Harbour Festival, Cork City County Cork Ireland, Sydney Festival, eighth blackbird, So Percussion, New York City Ballet, and many others.

In this piece, Dessner’s “Violinkonzert” is performed by Pekka Kuusisto on violin, with Ariane Matiakh conducting the Sinfonieorchester.

Enjoy!

Thanks for tuning in, and have a great Sunday.

A GREAT collection of both the Goddesses on one 38 minute tape. Wrongly called a duel?
The titles of the various pieces flash in the bottom right corner for us ignoramuses.

Thank you. Mozart is always a treat. Dessner is new to me and much appreciated. Always happy to see a flash mob when a musician performs. Music touches the heart. See you next week.
