North Korea Launches Most Powerful Missile In Years

North Korea has fired what is believed to be an Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM) which fell into waters near Japan, according to Bloomberg. Crucially, this marked one of the most powerful missile launches in years and also busiest after Pyongyang conducted successful hypersonic missile tests earlier this month.

Both South Korean and Japanese governments confirmed the IRBM launch on Sunday. They said the missile reached a height of approximately 1,243 miles and flew about 500 miles for 30 minutes before landing in waters outside of Japan’s exclusive economic zone.

“If the missile were fired at a normal apogee, its range would be up to 3,500 kilometers to 5,500 kilometers, making it an IRBM and North Korea’s longest test since 2017,” Joseph Dempsey, research associate for defense and military analysis at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London, told CNN.

Sunday’s launch is North Korea’s sixth ballistic missile launch this year and the seventh missile test overall, already surpassing firing totals of 2021.

The series of missile launches came as North Korean leader Kim Jong Un vowed to strengthen his military capability further. Sunday’s test is a wake-up for the Biden administration because South Korean President Moon Jae-in said North Korea could abandon the moratorium on Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBM) — indicating these long-range missiles could potentially hit the US mainland.

Soo Kim, a policy analyst with the Rand Corp. who previously worked at the Central Intelligence Agency, told Bloomberg, “Kim hasn’t had to pay the price for his actions, and he knows that especially now – with Covid, the Russia-Ukraine situation, brimming U.S.-China tensions, not to mention a South Korean presidential campaign season – the time is ripe for provocations.”

“Kim’s made it pretty clear that it will take something greater than sanctions to make him flinch,” the Rand analyst said.

It was reported last month that the US, South Korea, North Korea, and China “have agreed ‘in principle’ to declare a formal end to the Korean War. But they’ve yet to meet on the matter due to Pyongyang’s demands.” The matter has still been stalled and doesn’t look to find a way forward anytime soon.

Notably, the latest test marks the rogue country’s missile and possibly atomic ambitions. Now the world waits for a response from the Biden administration, busy drumming up the prospects for conflict with Russia over Ukraine.

I got interested in your comment about there being no nukes. I don’t know if you saw my question a few days ago.

Totalitarian Paranoia Run Amok: Pandemics, Lockdowns & Martial Law

I watched this video and wonder if Reagan and Gorbachev didn’t somehow manage to neutralize the threat of nuclear war after they realized what such a war would do to the entire world due to nuclear winter.

This should cue up around 5 minutes for a little “lesson” on a nuclear bomb.

As far as North Korea’s missile launches?

It’s a new axis of evil, eh? just what we need to rally around the nation’s leader, right?

You might find this interesting. If there was no nuclear weapons and the threat of them, just what target would be the best to go for with just high explosives?

No, I don’t believe that there are actually any atomic fission munitions.

No proof, just a hunch based on the fact that human beings do not invent weapons of war and then not use them. I also think that it’s a joke to claim that Pakistan- Pakistan– has had nuclear weapons since 1972. It took them 1 year.

Iran, fifty years later is still on the never ending news cycle of six months away from having nuclear weapons since I first heard that story back in what? 2001?

And have you seen Hiroshima?

What was in those bombs, fertilizer?

You can’t have a place like Bimini Atoll permanently closed off because of radiation while the Japanese cities we bombed right about the same time have grown 10 fold. It no makey sensey.

It’s a story, like the Moon landing, like the pandemic, like the endless multitudes of bullshit they shovel 24/7 to stay in power, to control the masses, to frighten, cower, bully, intimidate, bamboozle, extort, degrade, etc.

I trust human nature because it is so reliable over the long term. This is a pattern that has been going on as long as complex societies have existed, that a small group of criminals will take control of a functioning culture and rape, rob, pillage and torment its population until they are stopped. And as soon as they are, once they are no longer in power, the veil drops and everyone can see that there was nothing behind the curtain but a bunch of degenerate liars.

Of course I could be wrong, I’m certainly no expert. The same people who have waged all kinds of fake wars based on false flags for decades, who don’t know if a paper mask works or not in 2020 were capable of splitting atoms 75 years ago so precisely and with such certainty- although it had never been done before- were not only able to, but were responsible enough to never again misuse them or even have an accident. Anything is possible. But it sure as hell isn’t likely.

My best guess is that they were able to make monster bombs- like the MOAB- and stuff the shell with uranium or radium to make it seem like they’d done it. That would certainly satisfy the Occam’s razor explanation.

Plausible.
I’ve seen the theory before.
A rebuttal to the Hiroshima example is that it was bombed only once, the Atolls 23 times.
And radioactivity is cumulative, as the isotopes creating it accumulate.
A rebuttal to the Pakis’ bomb; vicious rumor is they basically bought the designs and materials (mostly from the US), instead of a home grown version.
Certainly slashes R&D time.

But based on human nature, your posit is certainly plausible.

Thanks for taking the time to explain.

You certainly have a different perspective on the world than I, but I had access to a whole lot of missile defense stuff that causes me to see from my own point of view.

It’s been a while since then…

My mother did bookkeeping for the company that made the gold foil that went on the LEM.

I remember getting dragged home from the pool to watch them land on the Moon on TV.

For the longest time I believed both of those things.

We still didn’t go.

That’s the biggest problem with being peripherally connected to some event- you played a part in it, so the whole thing must be true, even when it’s not. Like America being the land of the free. Do you see any evidence of that these days? Sucks to admit the truth, but the truth is more important than the feelz. At least for some people.

Given the state of American and her western/Australian New Zealand allies Japan and South Korea will be fighting North Korea on their own. North Korea meanwhile will have Chinese and Russian support. Sad but nevertheless it is not Canadas fight.

If at first you don’t succeed…

(And if you can’t make it, fake it…)

Re the reality or otherwise of nukes.

There are pictures of small mountains of dynamite in suspicious proximity in time and place to many supposed nuclear tests. Kilotons of the stuff. A bit of time on DuckDuck would probably turn them up.
I’ve been to Japan and visited Hiroshima while I was there. There’s a museum there which displays a great many artifacts and pictures from and of the event, mostly evidence of incredible heat. Fused coins, stopped clocks and watches, waxworks figures of people with their skin melting off, even a stuffed half-melted horse.
There is a lot of evidence to suggest that both Hiroshima and Nagasaki were firebombed, in the same manner as Hamburg in 1943 and both Dresden and Tokyo in 1945. Any brick or concrete structures, of which there were relatively few, survived but since most buildings were wood and rice paper, they disappeared into ash in very short order.
Pictures of both Hiroshima and Nagasaki suggest a conflagration, not an explosion of Biblical proportions.
The Bank in the center of town (Hiroshima) was almost completely unscathed and I believe still stands and is in use today. The Post office a couple of blocks away, which was supposedly directly under the blast and also still stands, is preserved as a monument. Both structures – the Bank being the sturdiest – survived because they weren’t made of wood.
One would also think there should have been a cratering effect, but like the gizmo which supposedly landed on the moon, that was absent. Lastly, if you compare the pictures of a destroyed Tokyo with those of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the similarities are striking.
