It would be useful to distinguish between pedophilia (my definition: sexual activity between an adult and a child, non-consensual by definition), and older men wanting to screw under-age girls.
I’m sure all this stuff is spelled out in various legal codes, but the press should try to up their game a bit. A guy who rapes 8 year-olds should be dealt with most severely, but Prince Andrew is probably not the biggest problem in the world.
No, there is a giant difference between force and consent (even if the age is below the arbitrary cutoff the government has decided). A 17 year old that is FORCED (as it seems most of Epstein’s girls were), is quite a different story than a 17 year old who chooses to have sex with her 19 year old boyfriend. The government has decided that the second case is a statutory crime, but everyone agrees that the first case is a true crime that violates the rights and person of the 17 year old.
And “wanting” is a thought crime, while DOING is a REAL CRIME.
