A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
nkit, and Steve C.
Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.
We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.
Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.
We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.
A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.
We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.
Tschaikowsky: 4. Sinfonie
And now in keeping with demonizing and ostracizing everything Russian we present the extraordinary work of one of the greatest composers of all time, the Russian – Tchaikovsky.
nkit will also feature some of his work in upcoming selections next week. Look for it. They’re great.

This One Comes To Us From Our Friend SMC
Mozart Piano Concerto No. 10 for two pianos in E-flat major K. 365/316a III. Rondeau. Allegro
Consider: sometime around 1780 Anno Domino, the idea that, in the gathering and assembly of symphony orchestras, the largest of all the instruments to be played was the piano.
Certainly, nobles and kings were able to afford them, besides the successful composers of the day.
But only someone with an amazing ability to think outside the box would have the audacity to actually write a composition for symphony featuring not one, but TWO pianos, and then somehow arrange to have them brought together for a performance.
On top of all that, the tune is a thoroughly enjoyable piece.
Who would DO something like that?
The Next Three Come To Us From ursel doran
Yuja Wang: Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor, Op. 30(George Enescu Festival, 2019)
Recognizing the possible sinful issue of being repetitive…..herewith, Good sir.
Yuja – Rachmaninoff #3
Yuja Wang – Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No 2 in C minor Op.18
This version of Rachmaninoff #2 is *special* for not only the performance, but for the camera work outdoors at sunset. Like a warm blanket on the shoulders in the morning.

1812 OVERTURE, amazing FLASHMOB – (Tchaikovsky)
And now for more from the villain of the year Tchaikovsky.
The Year 1812 Solemn Overture, Op. 49, popularly known as the 1812 Overture, is a concert overture in E♭ major written in 1880 by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky to commemorate the successful Russian defense against Napoleon’s invading Grande Armée in 1812.
In 1974, the Boston Pops added cannons, church bells and fireworks to draw crowds to their Independence Day concert. It was so successful that the inclusion of the “1812 Overture” became a staple.
Flash Mob performed by Banda Simfònica d’Algemesí on September 3rd 2016 at Algemesí city (Spain), playing Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture”; after the success achieved with the Ravel’s Bolero flashmob in 2013.
Director/Conductor: Alberto Ferrer i Martínez
Tchaikovsky: Ouverture 1812 | Prinsengrachtconcert 2013
Het Koninklijk Concertgebouw Orkest, onder leiding van Antonio Pappano speelt ‘P.I. Tsjaikovski – Ouverture 1812’ tijdens het Prinsengrachtconcert 2013.
Tchaikovsky, Waltz from Sleeping Beauty
And now it’s time for my very favorite Tchaikovsky piece – his Waltz from Sleeping Beauty.
Dancing is fun, but a waltz is pure romance…
The Classic Music Mafia – Adding some class to this joint one Sunday at a time.
Heaven help us…
Thank you, Steve.
To my grief I had to now decide to -here in Central Europe- skip this year’s, just starting, ticket sales for classical festivals – as I wouldn’t want to become a “quiet supporter” of some wokeist organization or marketing deadbeats sprouting Russia-phobic BS, over the course of the coming months.
Had to give up cultural arts in Denver as they wouldn’t allow the unvaxxed in. Not sure where they stand now…don’t care anymore.
Me either…
‘m’
I was a yearly ticket holder of the Houston Symphony for years before they just priced me out of it so I know what you mean…
Nice selections.
Many thanks…
Whoever contributed the Hauser content…Grazie.
Love the sound of cellos, and that guy has definitely found his passion.
Just watching him play shows his intense love for what he does.
Likewise, Thanks for posting this Sinfonia Concertante. It’s a new one to my ears,
and it’s always great to be shown / discover a new piece that is almost instantly likeable.
Nkit, you are a good dude, who contributes an amazing amount of positive to the platform.
Steven, as always, your diligence and efforts are much appreciated.
UD, keep ’em coming. You keep it up, you might be adopted into La Cosa Nostra, as someone who made his bones. But, that’d be The Godfather’s call, with the approval of his Consiglieri.
~Carry on.
THANKS MUCH Sir!
Just trying to spread some goodness truth and beauty that is found these days in the Music, and not very much elsewhere.
Yes, true. I find myself less & less interested in the world and focusing more on beauty.
I am compelled to share this quote which needs wide distribution, especially in these days of global Insanity.
“A man should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day of his life, in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful which God has implanted in the human soul.” ― Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Great quote!! Love it.
SMC –
The Hauser piece comes to us thanks to ursel doran.

ursel,
Many thanks for this.
It is the inspiration for much of the movie “Swing Girls” that I wrote about in my piece “How Many Saxes Are There”
I forgot to mention that I have put this into our May 15th edition.
Many thanks.
Great selections. Rachmaninoff’s Third Piano Concerto is my favorite composition and this was a great performance by Yuja Wang.
Two requests
Overture to the Operetta Die Fledermaus:
Edward Grieg, Piano concerto in A minor:
Thanks, no urgency, I’m listening every week now.
For some reason the links aren’t going through. The first is on youtube and its a New Year’s concert by the Vienna Philharmonic. The second is on youtube and it’s by Arthur Rubinstein.
Thanks very much Bob.
I found them both and have incorporated them into our May 15th edition with credit to you.
Credit goes to anyone who appreciates the music.
