The Real Threat in the Ukraine Conflict

Guest Post by Paul Craig Roberts

I still have forebodings about the manner in which the Kremlin is conducting the Ukrainian operation.  There is no doubt that the Russians had to come to the defense of the Donbass republics.  Having done little other than to provide the republics with some weapons and intelligence, for eight years the Kremlin allowed the Ukrainian shelling of Donbass and the occupation of large areas of the Donbass by Nazi militias, while the US and NATO trained and equipped a large Ukrainian army to subdue the republics. As the year 2022 opened, the republics were faced with an invasion by 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers.  The atrocities committed on the population by the Nazi militias would have been severe. The internal sense of shame in Russia could have eroded the ability of Putin’s government to govern effectively.

As the Kremlin had tolerated so much for eight years with no response other than a fruitless and pointless Minsk Agreement, it is possible that Washington was relying on Putin bringing about his own downfall by accepting yet another provocation, this time a highly shameful one.  It seems that Putin himself understood this as he has said repeatedly that he had no alternative but to intervene to prevent the Ukrainian invasion of the Donbass republics.

That Donbass was the only target of the limited military operation is clear from the fact that Donbass is where the Russian forces and fighting are. The Ukrainian army and Nazi militias have been surrounded in Donbass.  There are no Russian troops operating in Western Ukraine.

Despite Kremlin warnings that countries that hindered its limited military operation would be treated as combatants, the Russians have taken no steps against the NATO countries that have hindered its operation by imposing sanctions and sending weapons to Ukraine.  According to some reports, there are even US and NATO military officers and intelligence services helping the Ukrainian forces.  The inflows of weapons have forced Russia to widen its limited military operation to Western Ukraine where Russia has used precision weapons to destroy the weapon stockpiles and the means of transporting them.  Thus, by sending weapons to Western Ukraine, NATO has forced Russia to expand its operations, thus widening the war.

The Western weapons come into Ukraine mainly from Poland, and Poland has been in the forefront of those demanding harsher measures, even military intervention, against Russia.  Yet Russia has continued to deliver gas to Poland and her other NATO enemies and only cuts them off if they refuse to pay in rubles. Far from treating Poland as a combatant, the Kremlin treats Poland and the rest of her enemies as allies and business partners.  It is the confused message that Russia sends, threatening one thing, but doing another, that is rife with peril.

Such a confused message, like acceptance of provocations, creates opportunity for miscalculation.  My concern remains that Russia’s limited, weak or non-existent responses to provocations invites more and worst provocations until a red line is crossed that results in nuclear war.  Apparently, the Russians have never read Machiavelli.  They had rather be loved than feared.

The long drawn-out process of flushing out and destroying the Ukrainian forces in Donbass has created the opportunity for mounting provocations of Russia, supported by Western populations under the influence of war propaganda. These provocations can easily result in a widening of the conflict, resulting in more forceful actions against Russia until the situation explodes.

To prevent a drawn-out process rife with opportunities to pile provocation on provocation is the reason I have thought that Russia needed to act decisively and quickly bring the conflict to an end.  It is this failure that is the real threat in the Ukraine conflict. By trying to save a few Ukrainian lives, Russia might be endangering the lives of hundreds of millions.

“I still have forebodings about the manner in which the Kremlin is conducting the Ukrainian operation.”

That’s because you’re an idiot arm-chair “general”.

You have been whining about what Pussia should have done since forever. But, you don’t have 5%– if that–of the necessary information as to why Pussia is waging war in the manner they choose. So, why don’t you just STFU!!

BTW, dumbass, there is ZERO chance of victory by Country 404.

I am actually starting to wonder:
It seems like the Kremlin wants to bait all the foreign mercenaries into Ukraine, to finish them off there.

#1

Pop-ups have been going ape-shit crazy here. Sometimes as many as 6 or 7 at a time … I can barely even see the TBP article. I use Firefox and yes, I have ADBLOCKER. In fact, I’ve tried several, and they don’t help much.

I know folks have suggested other browsers.

Yesterday I downloaded OPERA.

Results? Not one single pop-up (that’s right …NOT ONE!!!), and I didn’t even need to download an Adblocker.

It loads and installs in under 5 minutes, and there’s nothing to “set up”. Extra bonus… the pages load waaaay faster than Firefox. Buh bye, Firefox!!

I use Brave and have zero problem with loading TBP and I have no ad blockers.

FYI , for those who didn’t get the memo. Firefox suffered a hostile takeover by SJW fags 6n years ago and then the creator of Firefox created Brave for people who don’t like a shit sandwich with their internet browser.
Don’t support Globohomoschlomo and do try to keep up.

Former Mozilla CEO Chased Off by SJWs Announces New Internet Browser ‘Brave’
Eich left Mozilla in 2014 after a targeted campaign against him once it was revealed that he had donated $1,000 to efforts to pass Proposition 8 in California in 2008, which banned same-sex marriage in the state. While celebrated by authoritarian progressives, Eich’s ouster was roundly criticized by proponents of the 1st Amendment, including ardent leftists and proponents of gay marriage like Bill Maher and Andrew Sullivan.

And as far a PCR goes; once a Globohomoschlomo shill always a Globohomoschlomo shill. Never trust a shill.

1) UBlock Origin

2) Privacy Badger

Problem solved. You’re welcome 🙂

Does anyone know what happened to Linh Dinh?
He used to get posted here and at Unz a lot.
Haven’t heard from him since his wanderings in South Africa
He’s definitely the type who it’d take months to find out he passed on
Which would be a damn shame and I’d sorely miss his musing

poot’n part-n-parcel. Where are the videos of the labs they have seized, in full color high definition along with the array of biological agents and explanation of what the items are? Never hear about chernobyl, and other ‘sensitive’ sites.

Keep hearing stories about the massive complex beneath the steel mill. Undoubtedly have at least a yrs. supply of M.R.E.’s. Totally self sustaining by all accounts. The foreign nationals ensconsed there, etc. ‘hardened’ against AERIAL attack. If The Russian have full control of the arena, a drilling rig and some kind of benign agent to render the occupants unconscious for extraction should be at leas feasible, ground penetrating radar and all that. Russians drilled the deepest hole in the earth to date.

Plug up the sewer discharge. That ought to raise a big stink. Hydrogen sulfide is deadly. There HAS to be actual air intakes and exhaust, filtering aside. Plug them with hydraulic cement.

So. About Germany sending country 404 those tanks.

— they are NOT tanks

— It takes 12 months, including hundreds of hours in a simulator, to become a gunner on a “Gepard”. The commander role required even more training. There are probably just a dozen Germans who know how to use it.

— Germany retired them 15 years ago

Hahahahaha.

Q: Why is Russia threatening/warning publicly that the conflict could go nuclear?

IMHO, that does nothing but further escalate tensions. It makes Russia look like the bad guys. That type of discussion should be kept behind closed doors, and between leaders at the highest levels. Stoking up enormous existential angst at this point serves no one’s interest.

=======

Q: Wouldn’t the war end almost immediately if 1) Russia cut off all energy to Europe, especially Germany NOW and, 2) cut off the head of the snake (kill, or at least capture, Zelensky). If so, what’s keeping them from doing it?

“That type of discussion…”?

Is a Yeah No.

“I will nuke you!”

“No, you won’t”.

End of discussion. No wins, for now.

If one wants the world to see a potent potentate, never telegraph intentions of the worst kind and nukes (detonated at metropolis-cratering elevation) are certainly that.

I’d wager that our Ukrainian proxy dust-up, before the last shot is fired, will feature nukes.

Who uses them first, openly or False Flag, is a coin toss.

Poland is currently waving its arm, “Pick me! Pick me!”

The reason Putin is threatening nukes is that he is drawing a clear line in the sand for both the US and the Countries of Europe to clearly understand. There are those in the US who believe they could widen this war and defeat Russia. Russia wants them to understand that if they attempt that, they are willing to go all out.

The reason Russia has not cut off the Germans gas is that they are secretly paying for it as he asked. Poland was not. Putin realizes the US could not provide Europe with enough energy to prevent mass depression and suffering. He wants to maintain a professional relationship with Europe so they can normalize business after the Ukraine issue is settled. He understands that Biden has overplayed his hand, and that in time he will eliminate the threat in Ukraine, and Europe will learn the US does not have their best interests in mind.
Killing Zelensky would not really accomplish anything as the CIA would only replace him with another puppet.

Yes, Putin is trying to walk a fine line between protecting the Donbass and deNazification operations and maintaining his cash flow from fossil fuel exports. He cut off two countries from shipments, while four others agreed to payment in Rubles. This is a nascent split within the EU. Likewise, Biden has assured that voluntary globalization is dead. Only the totalitarian Great Reset can enforce it, which requires the defeat of both Russia & China. Somehow, I don’t see that happening, as the West will fall before that could occur, whatever the triggering episode.

The ill-preparedness of Russian ground troops is evident, as was the diversionary thrust towards Kyiv to freeze in place the main regular Ukrainian Army. Those forces are now beginning the long-planned attack on Donbass, but I suspect they will be in for a bad surprise.

There are no Good Guys in the scenario, only differing levels of Bad Guys acting out their own interests. A loss by Putin would be an existential threat to the current Russian state, so nuclear weapons will be used should push ever come to shove, as Klaus Schwab so happily dreams.

China is benefiting from this by both weakening the US and Nato pouring billions of dollars they cannot afford into the conflict, and Russia becoming more dependent and subordinate to China for support. Meanwhile, China continues to upgrade its capabilities and strategic position.

China is the model for the Great Reset governance. I dont think the goal is to destroy China. I think the goal of the Satanic globalist in league with China is to destroy Russia USA/Nato in war. China wins. I see this in bible prophecy.
Revelation 13:2
And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.
Revelation 13:4
“And they worshiped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshiped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?” Russia- Bear, Great Britain – Lion, Leopard – EU??Germany??? India??? ?under the control the dominant world power China the dragon.
https://thomastaylorministries.org/blog/daniels-lion-bear-leopard-are-modern-day-countries/
If your wondering where USA is in bible prophecy? Daniel 7:4
“The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man’s heart was given to it.” The eagle can’t fly. It seems the ole USA is gonna get some humble pie.

Russia has been forced into it’s present situation by the US and NATO. NATO has been clearly attempting to establish military bases and first strike capability right on Russia’s border, which is something Russia cannot allow. The incentive for the war for the US, is to usurp Russia’s natural gas market in Europe, while simultaneously reducing Russian economic ties in Europe.
Once Europe is dependent upon the US for energy, it will be secured as an obedient ally, and unable to act in it’s own interests.

Russia is still delivering natural gas to Europe (if they pay in rubbles) because she needs the money. It is possible to see the Russians are starting to prevail in this war. It was never going to be easy to defeat a nation of fifty million, which is what Ukraine is. One possible desired effect of Russia taking till fall to achieve all her miitary, and political, ends in Ukraine is that it would so negatively effect the mid-terms for the Biden administration. I have no illusions the Republicans would be more benign than the Democrats. The confusion created by a split government however might be beneficial for the whole world, including North America
