A barn that housed tens of thousands of chickens on Forsman Farm in Howard Lake, Minnesota, one of the nation’s largest egg producers, was set aflame late Saturday night.
According to Forsman Farms, which provides more than three million eggs to the largest retailers in the country, the cause of the fire remains a mystery as investigators evaluate the scene to determine how the barn was set ablaze.
“Overnight, a fire destroyed one of our barns at our Howard Lake farm. No one was injured and we are grateful that first responders were quickly on the scene to put out the fire. Unfortunately, chickens were lost because of the fire. We are evaluating the extent of the damage – which appears to be confined to a single structure – as well as investigating the cause of the fire,” a Forsman Farms told Minnesota’s local CBS affiliate.

Law enforcement officials estimate at least 200,000 chickens were killed in the massive flame.
While the fire left extensive damage to the property, no injuries were reported.
The Wright County Sheriff’s Office maintains the fire was likely accidental.

To call such an industrial egg production facility a “barn” is the biggest misnomer ever.
They should get the BATF’s National Response Team (NRT) to investigate that fire. They are the BEST Arson Investigators on the planet (forget any other issues they may/may not have). The WILL get an outcome (Incendiary or Accidental). This is too big of an event to let it be “guessed at.”

There are 7-8 BILLION eggs produced in the U.S. monthly.
According to what is written above, 3 million eggs were the production level of Forsman Farms.
That 3M number is DAILY – 125,000 eggs per hour 24/7.
That means this “facility” (it’s multiple, large buildings) is creating/processing about 1.1B eggs annually.
It’s a lot and represents the following percent of annual production:
90B eggs produced annually (approximately)
1.1/90= .012222
So, this single facility produced about 1.2% of ALL U.S. egg production.
Intentionally burn down a few more like this one and U.S. egg production will drop off a cliff.
When it hits 10% (removed at the same time), the probability of complete and permanent collapse of distribution systems starts getting into the realm of REAL possibility.
